JVC HR-S2901 S-VHS VCR?

Hey all,

Due to the high costs of DVD recorders, I want to invest in an S-VHS deck for now instead.

This deck is now only $99.99 and CLAIMS to record S-VHS on only standard VHS tapes, but can obviously use S-VHS tapes as well. I am especially curious because it only has one S-Video, and its an output, not an input. So would S-VHS quality (claims to do 400 lines of res) really come through since it basically has to go through the coax in. Also, would older VHS tapes benefit from the S-Video output that this deck has?

Here's a link:

I think you would notice a little difference in older VHS tapes through the S video out, but probably not much.

SVHS has always been shit, anyway, in my opinion. However, 99 bucks isn't much more than a typical VCR, so you don't really have much to lose.

I would just invest the extra 900 and get the panasonic dvd recorder.

Ha, thanks for the advice.

I mean $100 vs. $1000, what's the difference?

DVD recorder, here I come.

Get a DVD recorder for your PC. I've seen em for as low as 300 bucks.

But do they record off-the-air? That's all I'd really want it for.

You need a video capture device for that.

I've got the panasonic dvd recorder ($999.00) and it records off the air beautifully.

However, my work paid for it. So there's not really much I can say about it being worth the money.
