Need a recommendation on a DVD player

Hey all. I'm a total and complete noob in home theater, and I need to stop being one

I live in Europe (Switzerland). I need a recommendation on an absolutely KICKASS DVD player which is:

- Region Free. I like Japanese and American stuff too much.
- Can take NTSC or PAL DVDs and show them in a PAL television.
- Can drive the best audio systems (I dunno what's needed on the DVD side for this. As I said, noob).
- Has good picture quality.

I don't need fancy mp3, divx, karaoke (GOD no), wireless, or whatever. Just something that does what's intended to do (play as many DVDs from all over the world as possible, with great sound and video).

I know there's two main options: obscure brands which make their own codefree stuff, and "name" brand DVD players chipped to be codefree. Which is the best option?

*Are* there even any DVDs like I want? Is this a pipe dream?

Thanks for your time

Always a <a href="http://www.avdeals.ca/dvdplayers/jaton_psd7611k.htm" target="_blank">good choice</a>.

Course, being stateside, I am currently using a modified APEX 1100. Cheap, reliable and functional. $75.00 REGION/MACROVISION FREE w/ PAL convertor built in.

thanks. I ended up buying a Malata 520 based on a recommendation from the Asian flicks thread, but that one sound cool as well.

I actually would have recommended the Malata. But they are apparently becoming scarce.

Good choice!
