Need to Get Someone a DVD Player

$250-300 range. What do you suggest? I have a Sony DVP NS700P which I love, had for a year now (after my shitty shitty Pioneer) never had issues with though by reviews it seemed to be overpriced and such. Looking to get someone a Sony or Toshiba or anything Chewer would suggest. Any help would be appreciated. This is someone's first player, has good stereo system, etc.

I've had nothing but love for my Panasonic. It's a progressive scan unit, and cost around 200-250. Quite a deal for the picture and feature set.

Don't do that. Their DVD playability is rather limited. Good for on the go, but get them a real DVD player if your going to spend a little bit of change.

Depends on what you're looking for and what the rest of their system is like.

If they have a rather large TV or projector, indeed this is not a good solution. But for a modest system and a first-time DVD user, it'll do just fine.

By the way, I think the Xbox is far superior to the PS2 in the DVD playback department. From my experience, the Playstation has a problem with volume. DVDs are way too quiet.
