Question about my subwoofer

Hey guys, I'm having an issue with my sub that I hope you can help me out with.

The back of my receiver has a single "out" for a subwoofer, but my sub has a left and right "in". First of all, do I need to buy a "Y" splitter for it?

Secondly, whenever I have the receiver on, My sub has an ongoing buzz if the bass is up too high. I have to turn the knob in back of it down really low to emliminate it. My sub is about 2 feet or so from my tv, could that be causing it?

Is this subwoofer powered by your reciever or is it self powered?

it has it's own plug into the wall as well as a power switch, so there you go

Then, I'd suggest moving it away from the TV. Also, if your reciever supports dual channel subwoofers, by all means, hook up the other channel. Otherwise, try a splitter.

Also, get some good quality wires. That goes without question.

Does it not have a co-axial input? You might want to include the make and model, as well.

i'll take a look tonight. I am almost positive it does not support dual channel subs. So I guess a splitter is in order. You think interference from the tv is causing the buzz?

My receiver has co-ax, but i don't think my sub does

The TV could be causing the buzz, or it could be your wires, or it could be your sub is going bad.

don't think it's the sub. The whole system is barely 6 months old.

Here is the link for my receiver:

And here is the link for my speakers:

It is the Cerwin Vega AVS-632 series.

The interference could be caused by a number of things, but most likely is the magnetic field created by your television, disturbing the low frequency channel as it travels from your receiver to the subwoofer. Best thing to do is place the sub some distance away and try and keep the wiring to the sub away from the tv as well.
I'm not familiar with this particular model of speakers, but generally where a sub has only a left and right channel, it is connected in conjunction with the other speakers. This means that the 5 satellite speakers are connected to the sub which is then inturn connected to your amp. The link you posted to the speakers has access to the PDF file, which will guide you through the installation!

It appears your sub does have a co-ax input. It is the LEFT jack next to LEVEL IN at the back of your sub. Connect the co-ax cable from your sub out on the back of your receiver to this socket on the back of your amp. Now you can connect the satellite speakers to their respective positions on the back of the receiver.

Sorry that should read 'Connect the co-ax cable from your sub out on the back of your receiver to this socket (left jack of level input) on the back of your SUB.'
Damn no edit!
