This is a bit of a bummer, though I've heard more positive remarks regarding the transfer from a couple of others who have the disc.

I'm sure it's not nearly as mediocre technically as Peter is claiming. He's probably just comparing it directly to the AOTC DVD, which frankly wouldn't be fair. No disc is likely to stand up to that anytime soon.

Should be getting mine soon.

The extras seem pretty disapointing. It would have been nice to have a specially produced docu. There isnt any reason for it not to.

To me, it seems to be a pretty solid DVD release, with a really nice set of extras. And im glad that they are giving this DVD some good DVD-ROM extras. Im looking forward to this one.

Probably pulling this crap so they can release a special edition later and make more money.

I look forward to the CHUD review of this disc with great anticipation. I find that dvdfile tends to have a high rate of nit-pickiness. They also gave a somewhat underwhelming verdict on the FOTR Extended Edition. I've already ordered both these discs, but I'm interested to hear other opinions.

It's Spider-Man. Me love Spider-Man. As long as the movie is on there, and they haven't recorded it off a bootleg pan and scan VHS, I'll be happy. Extras are just gravy on this release, as far as I'm concerned.

Of course they are. This is so they can justify their stupid SuperBit garbage. Do the damn thing right to begin with Columbia. You've dropped to the bottom of my studio list for DVDs because of this stupid sh*t!

By the way Matt, how do you figure DVD File gave underwhelming reviews for the FOTR:EE? They gave it a 4.5 for video, a perfect 5 for audio and extras, and a 4.5 for value. Hardly what I'd call underwhelming.

It's just when they start off with a disclaimer about how they dislike the film, I find that it spills over into the other categories. And I don't follow number ratings if the written word doesn't justify that rating.

However, on a second read, I find that the numbers are better justified. My bad.

It's just Peter Bracke being the way he is. He's an uppity bastard. And a really annoying writer.

Although I am rather sad Raimi's commentary hasn't been described as that good, especially since his commentaries for the ED flicks are fantastic.

Forbidden Planet, this game shop/toy shop in NYC had this for sale yesterday. I almost got...but then I asked the all important question:

"Do you have wide-screen?"

The shipment was Full-Frame. The clerk said I made a good choice in turning it down. Next week they should have widescreen. Sweet.

All they owe any of us a movie transfered to the best of their abilities. Everything else is gravy. Sounds like we're getting that.

Forbidden Planet is a truly evil store. Well, in the UK, anyway.

Alledgely, the store I ordered with has the widescreen edition in stock now, so I should expect to receive it monday or tuesday.

Why is that? They've always been nice to me.

Well, they sell lovely stuff and all... but they're markup kings over here. Average price of Star Wars figures there is about £11, compared to £5-6 at normal stores. They do that with a lot of stuff.

Course, the US is probably different...

It's true. The Marvel Legends figures were £11.99 at Forbidden Planet. I got 'em for £6.99 (buy one, get one free) at Woolworths. They kind of take advantage of the fact that a lot of people won't shop around. So although they're not evil, they do overcharge because they know people are lazy. They're a bit like Amazon in that respect.

Having said that, FP's comic and graphic novel selection is pretty hard to beat. I spent a very happy £120 there last birthday.

Have any of you got this yet??
Gotta agree with the reviewer here about the extras on disc 2. The feature most worthy of note are the screen tests. Theres one of Tobey Mcguire in a casting for Enter the Spider, Exit the Dragon!!
Good sound and transfer nonetheless and a few interesting tidbits on Spider-Man, the comics.

I've got it. Aside from Raimi's commentary and a featurette on Spidey's writers and artists past and present, the extras are pretty lame. Unless you like E! SUPER SPECIAL EPILEPTIC-FIT-EDITED FEATURETTES!

WHERE IS MY COPY? Me need Spidey fix.
