Good review, Mike!

Personally, I found this film to be better this time. The last time I saw it was in the theater, when I found it hokey and boring. Now I like it, but they still should have called it Star Trek 2.5.

Good review. Love the references to Kirk's legendary prowess in the alien sack.

I've always liked Star Trek III, but that's probably because I have a hard time separating it from ST:II. Since they are essentially one longer film broken into two parts, the goodness from II spills over into III and expands. Sadly, I've watched neither in quite a long time. I'll have to pick up both DVD's here shortly and give them another spin.

Is there another space franchise getting a little too much of your time, Bret?

Nice review. I still champion this flick as the most underrated of the Trek features, and I dig the drama of the piece, especially the death of the Enterprise, which was somewhat lacking for me in the fish-out-of-water-in-space hokey comedy of The Voyage Home.

I think they caught up with Okrand either at a con or about to do one of his Klingon language seminars, which is why he looked like he was in a hotel conference room.

And I think Shatner's tongue was firmly in cheek during his Captain's Log interview.

As for the film itself, it really stands up next to Wrath of Khan. So many of the issues raised in Khan -- age, our ability/right to play God, loyalty vs. duty -- are worked out to their (pardon the pun) logical conclusions.

Now, especially after reading the review, I again question myself why I didn't buy this damn DVD at the same time I bought ST:II this weekend.

Great review, and I love this movie as well.

The cool thing is at the end of the Nimoy commentary when he says they're about to record part 4's track, he and Shatner. That's a must buy disc.

That is true. It's has a very simple story structure -- they realize McCoy is sick, head out to Genesis, confront the Klingons, and then they're off to Vulcan for an extended epilogue. Very little actually happens in this movie.

But it has a great villain, memorable character moments, and key dramatic events that shake up the Star Trek franchise (i.e. Kirk going AWOL from Starfleet, death of his son, destruction of Enterprise, etc). It's my second favorite Trek film after Khan. And I still say that S.T. VI doesn't hold up as well as II and III.

P.S. Nemesis looks great.

Glad to see the love for this one. A fine film indeed.

And yes, Shatner was joking!
