Now with Corrected Grammar © and Clarity of Prose ®

(when I submitted this last night I didn't do a final check and some of it didn't make sense when I read it after coming home from work today, so I made corrections and reposted...enjoy!)

Nice review, Mike. Almost makes me wanna see the film. Almost.

But if I did, I'd have to turn in my penis.

<sigh> no you would not. I have reviewed 3 chick-flicks now and my penis is still in tact...it's dressed up in Barbie clothes at the moment but dammit it's still there!

If you're getting Once and Again, it's going to turn pink and frilly.

Well, look at it this way... it’s been a while since the CHUD Penis-Revenue-and-Repossession-Division had anything to do.

Disturbing talk about penises aside, good review Mike.

Great review, but at the risk of sounding cliched, I have to make one comment.

There's just something about mothers and daughters. I think that men, no matter how hard they try, could never grasp that bond.

I admit, I've read the book (it and it's sequel "Little Altars Everywhere" were wonderful) and I've seen the movie twice. Once with a friend, and once with my mother. Same movie, totally different experience.

Nice review...almost makes me want to see it too, but I think I'll pass, especially after reading this dissenting opinion.

Without even the most basic connection to these insane and abusive sugar bakers, one is left with the sad recognition that the only people in the film to strike a human chord are Vivi's husband (played by the always collected James Garner) and Siddalee's Scottish fiancé Connor (Angus MacFadyen). We identify with these unfortunate souls. Like them, we are tormented by the obnoxious caricatures working out their impossible pathologies around them, and like them we deserve to be involved with a better film.-Walter Chaw
The captions are love, as always.

Mehhh...that guy's review looked a wee bit mysogynistic to me. I thought the director did a good job showing you why the women were as they are, and the only character who seems to be seriously effected in a bad way by her life events is Vivi. The rest are just about as supportive as people could possibly be to one another, MUCH more supportive than my local friends.

If that reviewer couldn't see that, he lacks part of his heart.

This DVD, as a package, actually rose above the ratings I gave it's individual components (I gave it a general 8.5 when the highest component rating was 8.0). I did this because I felt that as a whole it worked really well together, and while a few of the features weren't stellar, the total DVD was still quite good.

i hated this fucking movie... hated. it's my worst of the year. it's completely disjointed, and the characters acted without reason.

my wife detested the movie, as well. she read the book, and loved it, so going into the movie i knew she'd be disappointed, but i didn't read the book until recently. (on my wife's recommendation)

i have to say, the book is stellar, and the movie made a mockery out of it. i always look at a movie as a completely separate entity, and i felt the movie was comprised of only a best selling title and actresses who could rake in money. they didn't give a flying fuck about the heart of the story.

Bump...because the reviews here need a bit more attention.
