Hi and HELP!

In case you know, PLEASE clue me in on a couple of things re: the Exorcist and Exorcist III - Legion books/films... One of you might happen to be an expert, more or less, on the Exorcist phenomena, and I'm hoping you can set me straight on whether the below two things are actual writing mistakes/oversights on Mr.Blatty's part, or just that I missed something. Hmmm...

Anyway, here's what I've asked too many people, who ended up also
having no ideas:

1)Did Mr. Blatty contradict the continuity, specifically the part in Legion (the book and movie), Kinderman looks at a photo of Karras and himself -- WHEN did those two become such good-enough friends that they had time to get a photo taken of themselves smiling?? WHAT was Blatty thinking as a writer? The idea of them being pals is fine, but unless there was (a "lost" sequel between the original and the third one where Karras comes back to life and becomes good-enough pals with Kinderman...this will always perplex me. It just doesn't make sense.

2)The book and novel of the Exorcist DIDN'T have Thomas Kintry's mother (or even mentioned her) discovering the fact that the recording of Reagan was in fact English -- nuff said. Where as, in the LEGION book and movie, it has Thomas Kintry's mother being the one to discover that. Who was the one who discovered it --The guy
the EXORCIST says it is, or the woman (Kintry's mother)?

I am truly baffled. These two apparent plotholes are so enormous, I MUST get to the bottoms of them.

Please, spell it out for me, or at least offer your own best guesses as to what the answers are two these two apparent continuity errors
of Legion (book and movie).

My sincere thanks,

D
