I Spit On Your Grave

Not sure if our DVD reviews are welcome in here, but I just thought I should share this one, seeing as how it's very intelligent and well-written. And I didn't even write it!

Seriously, though, <a href="http://www.creature-corner.com/reviews/ispitdvd.php3" target="_blank">check it out</a>, let me know what you think.

I thought it was a great review and I've never seen this particular flick. Having read this maybe that's a good thing.

Good review. The author truly tried to distance from the subject matter which is brutal.

I've seen this movie. Once. I have no desire to see it again.

We were just Talking about this movie the other day. Back in the 80's this was the movie we watched right along with Evil Dead and Entity. If my memory serves me right , I believe we rented them together.

I picked this up for Joe Bob's commentary, and have never been a big fan of the film, but after having watched it, and having read in the last year or two Carol J. Clover's Men Women and Chainsaws I found that I liked the film a great deal. Though the retarded character is annoying, for what it is (a virtual no budget film) it's well acted and shot, and it has a tonal consistancy. But what your review found as faults I actually liked. I liked that we really don't know too much, and the sense where the hat wearing rapist explains why he did it was pretty amazing (as was his death). I'm not saying I'm crazy for the film, but I thought especially in comparison to films like it, like Last House on the left, (a film I've never liked) it's one of the better films.

Good review of this exploitation classic. Director/Joe Bob commentaries make the DVD a necessity.

One of the funniest flicks of all time, if watched with the right people and plenty of booze.

Still, its one of the worst pieces of swill ever made.

I finally watched this, prepared that I might just shut it off if it got to be too much. But besides the discomfort of watching a sustained amount of horrible violence and all the tension inbetween, its actually a well made no-budget film. I'd say that this deserves its status as an exploitation classic.

Sure all the guys look and sound like New Yawkas, but the lead is great. By the time she's at the church, you're ready to see her exact bloody vengeance. For some reason, the scene where she lures Matthew into the woods stands out.

Although I'm not sure how keen I am in watching it again.

As an aside, threads that appear when you search for "spit, grave":

Paris Hilton doesn't do oral.

This has gotta be some record for oldest thread being revived, I'm just sayin'.

Underrated movie.

I enjoy big bumps.

Wait, that came out wrong....

There was a more recent thread on the subject of this film but everyone was hating on it in that thread. Having said that, I'm surprised that debate about this film is not any larger. Its not what you'd call "safe" filmmaking. Although you have to see it in order to discuss it.

Dvd's well worth picking up, too.

Indeed. Plus the director's commentary, while not as entertaining (he sounds like a college professor), is definitely interesting, as we get to hear his side of the story (it's also interesting to note that he married Camille Keaton after this film, so it's not like she was actually traumatized or anything).

I know and like Joe Bob Briggs from his TV show, and I'm sure his commentary on this DVD rules. The question is how many times will I want to watch this? I've known about this film since I was a kid and I've only gotten around to watching it decades later.

I used to stay up late on Friday/Saturday nights to watch Monstervision! The best ones were generally when TNT forced Briggs to show films that had nothing to do with the theme of the show (i.e. Look Whose Talking Too!)

I've never understood why Joe Bob Briggs never go to do a commentary track for Texas Chain-Saw Massacre considering it's his favorite film (correct me if I'm wrong) and there's been so many versions of it released on DVD.

No one's probably asked him/ponied up the dough. I'd buy it, though. If you are a fan of the man, Check out his Profoundly Disturbing/Erotic books.
