Voila!

These screencaps slayed me, so apologies if they seem a bit crap. But otherwise, enjoy!

Great review, Fett. I actually really enjoyed the screencaps (the Calista Flockhart and Brett Ratner ones being my favorites). My questions is this, because of the packaging, where do you store your copy of this version of Evil Dead? While I think the Necronomicon packaging is kind of clever, I wouldn't think it's kind of hard to put it beside your other DVDs.

I have a special shelf for my hard-to-store DVDs (such as boxsets, tins, etc), so right now the Necronomicon sits there.

Captions were rib-sundering in their quality. Don't know what you were worried about!

Great review as well. Always nice to take a retrospective at films we take for granted, and you gave it a firm but fruity reappraisal.

Yep a funny, well written but best of all informative review, cheers for that.

It's nice to see a review that makes comparisons with another version. Hopefully it will help others to choose the best version for them, and, save them the money that some of us already spent on 300 different-but-same releases. Or however many they're up to now.

Echoing the great-review-fett sentiments.

Personally, as cool as the Book of the Dead edition looks, I won't be picking it up. The previous release of Evil Dead had a pretty good transfer and the awesome Bruce commentary--and it was only $11 at Wal-Mart--so I can't see justifying a $49 purchase just for the Fanalysis documentary and the cool rubber packaging.

I'd sure like to steal it from somebody, though...

i would love the artwork for the disk, but yeah... it sucks to store it, but what's even worse is the fact that everytime i try to pick it up i have to sa klaatu barada nikto... and it always bites me.

Quick Evil Dead question...I know the Star Wars Jabba's Skiff Guards action figures are named Klattu, Verata, and Niktu (or however they're spelled). Anybody know whether Raimi threw in a Star Wars reference into his movie, or was it an Evil Dead reference from the toy company?

Either way, it's pretty cool...

it's actually from 'the day the earth stool still'. both movies are giving props to the old school film.

OK, that explains it. Thanks, Boomstick.

The screencaps were great. Especially the JK Rowling one.

"Floods and floods of it infuse the film, and at every moment possible Raimi wants to give us a good hard shot of something bleeding, he does, and with relish."

Possibly literally....some of the goo looked like relish & cream of wheat mixed together.

"Indeed, the grand-guignol scenes of blood erupting from everywhere seem almost like something Salvador Dali and Luis Buñuel would come up with if they had ever decided to make Un Chien Andalou 2, wrapped in the savage culture of 1980s horror, blood and gore flourishing like fountains in a Busby Berkeley musical while Bruce Campbell dances around in a macabre impression of Fred Astaire."

That is worthy of a blurb quote if I ever saw a blurb quote wink

Nitpick detail of the week: the doc wasn't filmed on a camcorder. Those where the state of the art (at the time) Sony semi-pros (and I think 1 Canon XL1) on digital tape that are favoured by newscrews for when their main gear breaks, or they need something small. He was in the middle of filming it when he was at one of our cons in Dallas a few years ago. Everywhere he went, the camera crew was sure to follow. I still need to see this puppy...Hastur was interviewed, and I'm wondering if she made the cut.

Yep, it's the words used to prevent Gort from destroying the Earth when Klaatu is shot.

The exact words are "Klaatu, Barada, Nikto" which I assume means "Those Earth homies done fucked up Klaatu's shit but good, dawg. But he say be cool, ease back, and he'll do the resurrection thang, and every motherfuckin' thing be smooth. No need to be bustin' caps".

Hysterical. I'd pay upwards of $10 to hear Robert Wise say that.

I may actually rewrite The Day The Earth Stood Still as an "urban" movie. Sadly, I bet it'd sell.

The "proof that the Hollow Man was around in the 80's" screencap had me rolling. Nice review...

But what would you call it? The Day the Earth Ain't be Movin' Fo Shit? Aw, hell. I'm no good at faux urbanspeak™.

My love for Mr. Brigden continues to intensify.

Marvelous work, sir! An intelligent and extremely well-written review! Those captions are just hilarious. My favorite is Liefeld's Spongebob.

It feels horrible, smells horrible, and if you put it in the fridge for a while, it’s supposed to feel like dead flesh. I did this, and it did feel grosser than before, although there’s not really any room for comparison as I’ve never been around to touch a dead body.
Well according to my mother, who works in a hospital, and has touched many a dead body, it feels '...nothing like dead flesh - but it is kinda gross.'

Just had to throw that in. Loved the review and the captions made my busted rib hurt s'more.
