DVD Review Onslaught

We've been crunching out DVD reviews like bad mommies and today will yield another 3 at least. Guys are bustin' tail and the comments rarely eclipse like 5 or 6 responses.

I know people are reading them, but are you ready to feedback?
Yes, please give us some info and advice on these reviews. Are you finding them helpful? Are they informative, or plain drivel? Do they inspire you to transform into Billy Drago?

Or, are we just writing these for our health?

Positive responses are welcome, but negative ones are just as helpful to us, just don't be an ass about what you dislike.

The more feedback we get, the better we can tailor our reviews, and hopefully improve them in doing so.

I find I read them less for making a purchase decision than for just the entertainment value. They're always well-written and usually pretty darn funny.
I at least read the captions for all of them, but some just don't match my style (SJR's Cavalcade of Musicals, for example). Doesn't mean they were poorly done, it's just they weren't something I was pining for.

But keep 'em coming - for every 1 I'm not interested in, you guys do 5 that I would be willing to check out. That's a hell of a lot more than most movie sites.
I usually just read them for entertainment value. I don't think one review has made me actually go out and buy a DVD, it may have helped with a few rentals that have lead to a purchase, but that's about it.

They're all very well written and the screen caps just add to they joy of reading these reviews.

I hate them because it generally shows me how truly lacking the variety of films I've watched in my lifetime is.
All the reviews are really, really great... my chud highlight... but I dont feel the need to say that every time a new review goes up.
LOVE

Always funny or informative, often both!
At a more fundamental level, I also think the CHUD rating system actually works well.
I dig 'em lots.
Love the DVD reviews. I'm not interested in some of the movies, but the screen caps always get me to read through them. I trust the CHUD gang more than any other group of reviewers out there, so the more reviews, the better!
Thanks for the work!

You guys generally do such a good job, I'd rather not pollute a thread with stuff like:

"Yeah."

or

"That's some mighty fine reviewing there, chief."
no offense

but I hate when you guys try to fish for compliments

you should have faith in the fact that we like the reviews

now get back to killing kittens

Not fishing. But, when 100,000 people read these DVD reviews and we get 6 posts on the MB which is theoretically comprised of the same folks that read the site it tells me:

A. We're doing something wrong on the reviews, though I know that's not true.

B. People don't want to make the effort to comment.
Those were good reviews today. I will most certainly be picking up Rex The Runt (which I had never heard of before), and the caption about the Beard of the Ages in the Iron Maiden review was the funniest thing on CHUD in months. Hopefully Rock In Rio will sell well , leading to the release of a Live After Death DVD.
I like the DVD reviews, but I won't read them if I haven't even heard of the movie. But when I do read the reviews for films that I know but haven't seen, they get me really interested. The most recent examples that come to mind are Kissing Jessica Stein and Blade II.
Mike, great Iron Maiden DVD review. Nick, those captions were your finest yet.
Other than being well written and often humorous, I dig your reviews because I can trust that if I haven't seen the flick yet, you're not going to spoil it for me (at least, so far), whether you liked it or not. It shows that you have a love for cinema, and that you respect your readers. I don't necessarily agree with all your opins (which is a good thing), but at least you haven't ruined the experience.

If I was going to critique anything, it would have to be the occasional spelling error. I know that you have to pump these articles out fast--but don't you have a spell-check or something (which would be a nice addition to this board as well wink )?

And the captions are usually pretty cute, too...
Take one part Poxy's comments and another part Andre's comments, add the fact that the reviews often influence my purchasing decisions in at least some small way and almost always entertain, combine all of that through some sort of horrible smelting accident involving a run-on sentence, and you have my basic thoughts on CHUD's DVD reviews.

Also:
I'll be at least renting Jackie Brown because of Micah's amazing review.

And I'll never think of the words "Hollow" and "Man" the same again, particularly when combined.
There have been so many reviews posted in the past week and a half, I'm not even going to try reading them until I have some time next week.
Nick, sounds like you need to slow down the content ... maybe up-date once a week?
Who was asking earlier the definition of a "newbie?" If you don't know if I'm being sarcastic ... you're a newbie.
We're once again being pummelled with reviews. Rather than flood the board with posts for every individual review, I'll keep it short here. You guys are firing on all cylinders lately and all the reviews posted in the last day are a perfect example of the hard work. Great job, guys!

I'll stop know as my knees are getting sore.
I love the reviews you put up. Thank you for doing that Nick, and all the reviews. You guys really do us a favor by doing that, and I, as well as most everyone else, really appreciate the time to watch, and review those DVDs.

Actually, I was happy to see A Perfect World get some lovin'. I thought I was the only guy on the planet who liked that movie.

Loved the Strange Brew review!! As for lack of feedback, we Chudstory authors know how you feel. frown

Tried to read them...link takes me to 'Monkey Trouble'.

"For Christ's sake, it's a kid's movie, Harvey. Keep your pants on for once."

Laughed out loud.

I too have always has time for this flick. I loved it when the kid catches him with the woman. He laster asks him if he loves her & he says "Kissed her butt, didn't I?"
I think I'll have to revisit it again!!
Definately the path Costner should have continued on.
The sheer number of these things just floors me.

And that's the double truth, ruth.

I'd agree with that. Course, maybe I'd get more feedback if I wrote more than one...
