NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I think this sounds great. I loved the original, Danny Kaye was the Jim Carrey of his day, and a great comic presence. Carrey will be perfect for this, and I think Spielberg is an interesting but cool choice for it.

you know what would be REALLY great?

an original fucking movie.

Spielberg has been on a roll, and I've become so disenchanted with Carrey that my first reaction was, "Cool, another Spielberg flick!"

I think this is a good idea, although never having read the short story nor seen the first flick, I have a question: is this is an out-and-out comedy?

I never saw the original movie, but I have to say (from what I remember of the story) that this seems right up Spielberg and Carrey's alley. I'd much rather have originality, but if they're not going to give it to me, I'd rather have quality people working on it than, oh, casting John Travolta in a remake of Harvey, just off the top of my head.

I so agree... while I'm generally indefferent to Mr. Carrey, I dug Ace Ventura and that's about it, do we REALLY need another "empowering" tale about some timid guy escaping his reality with his imagination/magic mask/rats/super-powers/porno mags? Hasn't this been done to death? I'm not familliar with the story nor the film, so i can't say for sure, but this sounds done to death.

This is good news, because Carrey has been attached to this for several years and like Devin said, this is a perfect role for ass-talkin Jim and Spielberg is the right guy to helm this. I cannot wait to hear who they cast alongside Carrey.

I read the original short story many years ago and I also saw the Danny Kaye original a few years ago in a college literature class and I loved it. I found out that director Robert Altman has a small role in that movie as a soldier when I had to a paper about the differences between the story and the movie. I titled it "The Nitty Gritty on Walter Mitty." Pretty catchy, huh? I made an A.

I honestly don't mind this remake. At least, it has the right people, Speilberg and Carrey. If they were anyone else, I would curse this.

But I'll let it slide.

(Wow, my seal of approval. That's worth a lot.)

Apparently, a consensus in Hollywood has been reached to put the evolution of film on hold until we've remade everything the past 50 years or so at least once. Then, when everyone's caught up in remakes of "M" that come out as "Cradle 2 the Grave," we can all move forward to a bold new world together, no child left behind.

Man, I can't wait!

Andrew, how about telling us your whole life story in that post, too.

the short story is great, and wasn't the "original" movie just a "remake" of the short story anyways? so this doesn't really change anything, people bitch about remake this and remake that, don't go see it or rent it though, i dare ya, "condoms break, deal with it missy!" - max weinberg...

Sounds interesting ..i suppose

unlike the other two remakes mentioned on the
front page which just look total crap
