Horror Soundtracks of 2003

Are there any faves you've put the spin on more than five times or so? It can be a score or a collection of artists. We'll probably be asking you to submit your favorites for the Corner's year-end "Best Of" list within the next month, but I don't think we give soundtracks much play on the boards.

Here are a few that haven't left my car...
  • 28 Days Later: Sorta mellow. I picked this one up for a few tracks and wound up liking the whole package
  • Cabin Fever: Terrific oddball score.
  • Freddy vs. Jason: A rock compilation of a bunch o' screamers. Not bad, not great. A guilty pleasure.

I think the most disappointing score of the year was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Just a lot of mood music but nothing really hooked me.

The HO1KC soundtrack is pretty cool. And not only because of the new Rob Zombie songs.

Let me go on record as saying loud and clear

FUCK NU-METAL SOUNDTRACKS FOR HORROR FILMS

Whew, that felt really really good.

Sorry guys, and I don't look down on you for digging them, my standards as far as metal go are super high. I cannot stand crap like DISTURBED and KORN, etc...(though as people the guys in DISTURBED are the coolest. Too cool for their own good at times when it comes to their carreer)

Soundtracks-
28 Days Later
the orchestral score for Freddy Vs. Jason
the orchestral score for Underworld
the From beyond re-issue (or is this the first release officially?)

Ho1000c is the only one that has been getting a lot of play time in my cubicle. It hasn't been a real memorable year for soundtracks. The TCM score sounded very similar to another recent movie but I couldn't think of what it was while I was at the theater. At least they didn't have Manson do it.

While I did listen to House of 1000 Corpses alot, 28 Days Later has been a standby and is in the player quite often.

BUt I think the best soundtrack I've bought recently isn't from this year at all...Ravenous.

Well on top of my list ...

Texas Chainsaw Score - I really liked it. It's dark and tense. The only thing that I found dissapointing is the fact that a lot of the same tunes sourghta repeat themselves within others, oh so often. Overall I love it.

Jeepers Creepers 2 - this one rocks. Reminds me of Psycho for some reason. Pretty good.

Heh. Ravenous is far kookier than Cabin Fever score-wise, that's for sure.

I think it's a great movie too.

My favorite one is the one that hasn't been released:

Brian Tyler's Bubba Ho-Tep

However I do remember liking 28 Days Later.

But I probably listened to HO1KC the most of the "horror" CDs this year. Love that Brickhouse redux...

Bubba Ho-Tep was due to be released this month, but it's been post-poned by La-La Records until early next year, perhaps to coincide with the DVD...

They couldn't/wouldn't tell me if it was songs or score though. Amazon lists it as by "various artists." I don't remember any songs in it.

I agree, though, Bubba Ho-Tep was an absolutely STONKING score.
