Here's your place to talk about Dark Castle's latest which opens this Friday (the 21st). Big stars in this one, fiends. Are you excited or what?
Not too excited because I feel that the trailer gave away the entire opening of the film.

The "buzz" about the film hasn't been too good, either.
As I said in that thread about Dark Castle's movies, I'm not ecited about "Gothika" but think it has potential.
When I first saw the commercial I thought "This could work"

But now that the opening day is getting closer, they are showing more of the movie in the commercials....and it ain't lookin too good

but then again.....I haven't seen it yet
Guillermo Del Toro said it was good and Kassovitz won't let me down.

Don't listen to the reviews or at least don't let it influence you. See it for yourselves first and then make up your own mind on whether its good or bad.

Oh please. If 9 out of 10 reviews say it sucks to high heaven, then im not going to to risk losing IQ points by subjecting myself to 2hrs of rubbish. Lord knows ive lost more than enough to these kinds of flicks already. Reviewers are your friends. theyre helping preserve your IQ points.

reviewers are not your friends. they never have been.

Micah and others have pretty much layed down the dirt in another thread in the Sewer, saying the story makes zero sense and that the whole package is pretty much boring, save for a scene involving Charles S. Dutton.

Still going to see what Berry was making a fuss about although that's pretty sad on Kassovitz's part.

Yeah, that trailer looked entertaining. it won't be the best picture of the year, but neitehr will anything else currently in release.
Damnit, you found us all out. That's right...no one that reviews movies...EVER...is your friend. I don't like you. Ryan doesn't. And The Inspector? Don't even get me started...

First off, I like both House on Haunted Hill and Thirteen Ghosts (and I think Ghost Ship is a piece of crap). That being said...

I've just gotten home from watching Gothika and I am sad to say that I am severely disappointed in the film. To me it was quite boring, contrived, and overly cliched. I'm not going to give anything away, but this film just further proved my opinion that while Dark Castle's remakes are fairly entertaining, their original concepts are poorly executed. They should either just stick to Castle remakes, or hire good writers to pound out a good script and put the time and effort into the production to make it a good film.

All of this is just my own opinion, so it is up to you to decide for yourselves as to whether or not you like the film.

The trailer I saw for this recently was REALLY good, nice and unsettling. Too bad.
Hey now, no knocking giant Hallie Berry-killing CGI monsters. What'd they do to you?
they killed Hallie Berry
...........Oh, make me feel good Billy Bob Thornton.......

That about summed up her acting

The monster can win my affection by rightly taking the Oscar from her as she did not deserve it for Monster's Ball. The movie was good but her acting licked monster's balls...
I don't know about you but I'd pay to see a film in which Halle Berry licks some monster's balls ...

I have to say I actually liked Gothika for the most part. Mind you, it makes NO sense but it does have a great sense of mood going for it and until it totally unravels in the second half, it's fairly involving, definitely stylish, and continues the recent trend of non-camp horror.

It's by far the best thing Dark Castle has come up with to date (although I do have a soft spot for the campy cheese of House on Haunted Hill and Thirteen Ghosts). It's an encouraging sign of better things to come for DC - at least it is until the ridiculous, tacked on epilogue that damn near blows the whole movie out of the water. If only the movie had ended one scene sooner it would've still been dopey but I would've cut it a lot more slack.

Still, overall I had fun with this - with any credit for that going to director Mathieu Kassovitz.
I aslo really liked it, it's not the most Original movie but it's fun and had me guessing at times. Plus the Preview of Dawn of the Dead and the Butterfly effect were pretty good.
what's this about a Dawn of the Dead preview? any new footage?
Not sure, first preview I'v seen. Shows a few people in a mall (like 10-12) doing whatever the like. Then it shows them watching TV and it going to the emergency broadcast network and then a group shot of the people in the mall. Then some rather fast zombies and then some footage of them being attacked in a parking garage or a least that's what I remember.
In other words it was the same teaser trailer that's been online since last month.

i liked gothika. where these comparisons to the ring and sixth sense come from i dont know. the one from scream i can understand.

also it made perfect sense. it just goes to show, people, sometimes, dont pay attention. ill be back at night to explain everything.

p.s. no it wasn't scary. horror movies don't have to be scary all the time.
The place where they shoot it is a very creepy place. I go by it every day and it gives me the chills. I t is an old prison (1800) in an old town. It is a very great looking place.

your being sarcastic! your so funny! your also wrong.

films like cronos, the devils backbone, the others, house. none of them are scary films. horror isn't always about trying to spook someone out.

IMO Cronos isn't a horror film at all, it's a drama; I haven't seen Devil's Backbone, so I can't comment; The Other's didn't know what the hell it wanted to be (except a dead-horse, repeatedly kicked); and House WAS scary.

Horror films do have to be scary, that's kinda what makes the horror films; but, once again, that's just my opinion.

Cronos is a mixture of drama and horror. it's still part of the horror genre. its just a sub genre of it. just like punk music is part of rock n roll.

House was not scary and it was a horror comedy.

lets try growing up first. cause yelling at me just because you disagree with me won't work. i think im right and you dont. you think im wrong and i dont.

its a fucking difference of opinion! yes i know i'm acting like a kid now. if you wanna discuss it back and forth then cool. but stop trying to be sarcastic and an ass.
I thought this movie sucked big time. I almost feel like an idiot for defending Dark Castle on another thread.

It's not so much that this movie hurt to watch (see House of the Dead) but I just kept asking myself "why?" throughout the entire film. Did we really need another retread horror film that's drawn from several recent hits? I called the ending about twenty minutes in. Other than Robert Downey Jr., everyone seemed to be sleepwalking through their roles. Can't say I blamed them.

I really wanted to like this movie but I can't endorse this at all. I expected much, much more from Mathieu Kassovitz.

To Dark Castle - stick to remakes.

Growing up?How judgemental we are.I yell at you because you befuddle the fudd out of me.Sure films can be a mixture of different things. But if it's advertised as horror,it is meant to scare you.Period.

Now,let's you and I grab a cup of coffee.See you at Starbucks website.
