I almost picked up a new Guttenberg movie today. I had never heard of it before, and it had rave reviews on the cover. Something about killing a pet, swear to god I already forgot the name.

It didn't help that it was fucking pausing every time.

For now I won't go see it, I must be convince with another trailer. With LOXG, I liked the first trailer, but I really went beurk... after the second one. So there is still a chance.

If only peoples who know the Hellboy can appreciate the film, I think it won't make a lot of money. Comic book movies should be made to be a good film, not a good comic. Ask Mr. Singer.

Is this in english?

Did not mean to really start a fight...I can see how Spider-Man may be considered horrible by some, and yes I KNOW Amores Perros was violent as hell, not to mention a very quality flick. It just infuriates me sometimes that people will try to bash "mainstream films" because they appeal to the masses. My cousin, for instance. When we were little we would watch Predator, The Terminator, The Thing etc. Nowadays, when he and I get together to see a movie we never agree. He always feels he has to see the "art" movie. Like he started ripping on every film Tom Hanks has done since Apollo 13. And then I caught him on the fact that he had not even seen Cast Away or Road to Perdition. I know they are not horror films, but ya see my point? I was not trying to say Elmie doesn't know his horror. It just seemed to me that if did not like any film in the same genre as Hellboy, why the interest? That is all.

Secondly...Sean Bateman...I have always enjoyed your posts and thought you were one of the most open minded movie fans here. But please don't you ever insult my intelligence. I am very familiar with the meaning of the word "pretentious" and agree with me or not that was my take on Ghost World. Maybe you need to look up the definition. If your take is different that is obviously fine. That said live long and prosper, and I look forward to further differing opinions.
Just wanted to add more in response to Bateman than anything else, that I Am a movie fan of all genres. Yes I did ACTUALLY see Gosford Park and Ghost World and Amores Perrors. And among by favorite films are T2, Jaws, Wonder Boys, A Fish Called Wanda, Kill Bill(yes already), Nobody's Fool, Vanilla Sky, and Platoon. It may not be "indie city" but I feel it is fairly diverse. Now back to the horror posts, eh? I tell ya, one grouchy post on a bad day can bring Hell after ya.

The HELLBOY trailer has been the most watched trailer on Yahoo this week!!! Reactions may be mixed but it sure seems to be popular ...

That's because it won't appear online before 12:00 p.m. Yes, you read that right: mid-fucking-night.
The link to the Quicktime HELLBOY trailer is now up:

http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/hellboy/
post #59 of 184
Like that works...

Or is my 'puter shite ?
Though strangely it comes up automatically if you go to the sony pictures official site. But the link to apple on that site doesn't.

Odd.

Sure is purty though.
EDIT: Yes, there is indeed a link on the official Hellboy site - that takes you to an Apple: Page Not Found error.

I think the correct phrase is FUUUUUUUUUUUCK.
It didn't it just come up ? It did on mine. Not particularly large, and certainly not the clearest quicktime in history.

But about 1000% better than the rea player shite from last week.

This is no League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. No way. You know that shot in the Fellowship Of The Ring trailer where you saw for the first time the Bridge of Khazad Dum start breaking up as the fellowship leapt over it and you saw the scale of the whole thing ? That's the feeling this gave me (not literally, obviously, but that scope of action...)

This looks fan. fucking. tastic.

http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/hellboy/index.html - try that. which I've just seen is Flash. Weird. A placebo ?
Aah yes. Had to allow my pop-up blocker to load pop-ups for that page. I'd actually captured the Windows Media source which, once freed from the stop-start hell of streaming video, is about equal quality to that pseudo-Flash trailer.

The Quicktime link is still dick sauce though - and that's the one I want. Big as fuck, crisp and clear and downloaded to my hard drive.
http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/hellboy/

It now be up, and with a download option as well!
I would like for someone to explain the "LoXG" link

How are these 2 films similar??

Is it the multiple cast?

because if that is all......boy howdy......what a rush to judgement
post #66 of 184
It was deemed at first knee-jerk reaction to the awful quality windows media resolution as though all that was cut together in the trailer was a bulky mass of chunky effects with little flow or coherence and much sturm und drang - much like The afore mentioned, muddled League...

Of course Quicktime has now shown that "deeming" to be utter toss.

This is wonderful.
Quicktime really makes all the difference in the world. What looked cheap, unfinished and clunky in WMP now looks slick and ploished. I thought that the trailer would not make the uninitiated curious about the film but after watching it with the added clarity, resolution and detail most of my doubt have been annihilated. There is a whole bunch of stuff that I've only now been able to make out. I even missed some of the creature stuff in the previous low-quality version. It is only now that I could see the quility of the make-up, the amount of facial expressions that Perlman can get across beneath it ... Take this and add the very much improved sound and you got one hell of an effective trailer. Yes, I'd have liked to see some of the origin stuff revealed but if they want to keep that for later then that's fine with me. As it is this trailer will get peoples interest and put the film on the map. Which is what the trailer is all about.

The main question that remains is why did they have to release the trailer in shitty formats before going Quicktime with it? The same thing happened with TROY. Why risk bad word of mouth and a lukewarm geek reaction by that? There's just no logic behind this that I can see. If studios have some kind of deal with Yahoo they should at least make sure that Yahoo presents their trailers in the best possible quality!
Still reminds me of League of Extraordinary Tedium (Connery's oh so hilarious "that was naughty!" would fit right in)
I hope there won't be a backlash here in Austria and also in Germany because of all the Nazi imagery ... Swastikas and the like don't go over too well here with the PC crowd if they are not in a Spielberg film. If we're especially unlucky HELLBOY could even get banned as Nazi propaganda (which is illegal thanks to our past). And hey, I could kinda understand that ... after seeing Kroenen in action I actually want to become a Badass Mechanical Nazi when I grow up ...

Has everyone seen the new wallpapers?

There is one for the villains (which kicks harder than is healthy):

It(the trailer) does slightly reek of the LXG in its tone, with its quirky music, which had a theme sounding sort of ripped off from the Men In Black trailer. However, despite that it looks like were in store for a delightful romp come April 2. Also hoping to see that this get Ron Pearlman more roles away from anything headed with "a Sci-Fi original" .
Question for you experts out there, and I don't know if this has been covered yet...

In the trailer there are scenes where Hellboy's horns look to be cut off, and then some where they look to be broken off. Is there any reason behind this?
My take on the trailer:

Obviously cut by Sony marketing, as previously stated.

That being said, plenty of Perlman goodness.

The whole Lovecraftian ancient-tentacled-evil thing got me all squishy.

Comparisons to LXG are obvious, what with the 'collection of paranormal superheroes' take on things, but this trailer looks more solid than that entire movie did.

The very fact that they included Dimmu Borgir as the music gives them some dark-ass street cred, they aren't exactly Drowning Pool or Linkin Park.

Looking forward to Del Toro's cut of it. I'm expecting my ass to be well and truly kicked at that time.
I'm still undecided on whether or not I will want to see this. I like Ron, and Guillermo, but ehh. Just something seems off about the whole thing...

Well, you all know I'm a shill when it comes to this picture, but I gotta tell you - I saw some more footage right before Xmas - really great stuff.

I saw the entire sequence where Hellboy punches the SUV (among a few other odds and ends) - flawless CGI and practical mix.

I think everybody's going to find something to love in this.

I like how the recent pictures show that they have made Hellboy's red color brighter to match how he looks in the comics .
This thread is in desperate need of a little resurrection so I thought I'd post this here.

GdT has posted some pretty cool news on the MSG boards over on the official HELLBOY website. A completely new theatrical trailer will hit with copies of DAWN OF THE DEAD and SECRET WINDOW! I didn't think the first trailer worked all that well so let's hope they did a better job this time around. Also 60-second TV spots should start airing next week. Sweet.

Here's GdT complete message:

Hi guys:

I'm back at Skywalker mixing the film. A lot is going on. The next few weeks will be quite crazy... 60 second spots start March 3rd. Expect an onslaught of spots after that. Standees should be in thetres now. New trailer will be posted next wek and will be attached to DAWN OF THE DEAD and SECRET WINDOW. Toys will be hitting the mainstream shelves in 2 weeks. We are on the cover of STARLOG, MAKE UP ARTIST and -in March- CINEFEX, etc HELLBOY will saturate the waves in the next 4 weeks. Hopefully that'll help.
I MAY have some good news for UK and Australian folks soon. We'll see. For all the enthusiasm we have, there's still a majority of people that still haven't heard about us. We have had a great and in-depth coverage on the net thanks to the interest of sites like CHUD, COMICS2FILM, AICN, COUNTINGDOWN, SUPERHEROEHYPE, UPCOMING HORROR FILMS etc, etc I thank you all. The mainstream press in the meantime has been slow to catch on. We don't have stars, we are not a high-profile comic book, etc, etc... What will our fate be. sometimes I wonder -mostly in the wee hours of the morning when I wake up from a HELLBOY plagued sleep and the rest of the hosehold is still asleep. There's no easy answer. The comic speaks to each of us in our inner voice. We each have a Hellboy movie that is different from the next guy. All I know is that of the movies I've made this is the one that i still enjoy watching this late into post production. This are the final days of a journey that took me more than half a decade and that included a movie (BLADE II) made -amongst other reasons- as a calling card to finance HELLBOy. Five years of ups and downs and politics and rejection by many a studio until we found a home at Revolution. It is my hope that you -whoever you might be and in whatever numbers- enjoy the damn thing. I would make the call to all of you to give this movie a shot in its best possible format (not downloaded from a camcorder in quicktime but on a theatre or even on a region 1 DVD darn it) and spread the word if you like it. We are still the Dark Horse. We are still the 60 million dollar movie in a 200 million dollar franchise game. We are still being made by a bunch of people that care. It ios a testament to the character and the comic book that, at every step of the process, someone in the crew is wearing HELLBOY T-shirts or reading a paperback just 'cause they were already fans before the project came in. I know. I am still one. Soon I'll get to meet several of you guys when we screen the film in California. As for the rest, I urge you to approach me in hwatever street situation we might be. I've formed a bond with each of you guys in here. I have enjoyed seeing the bonds being formed in our little community. I have followed your troubles and tribulations (migrations to another country, girlfriend leaving you, lack of funds, etc) and I have -at every step- been revived by your love of the character. May we all stay together in the warm HB embrace... See you soon. And untill then,

All the best

Wow, this discussion is so dead! Weird that I'd be the only one still interested in HELLBOY considering it isn't opening in my country until September 17th ...

Anyway, here's the first of a flood of new TV spots for your (my?) enjoyment:

I'll be the first to say that I know very, very little about Hellboy but it seems like it should be in a comics form not a horror form. Maybe I'll grow to like it, I don't know but it seems to be about action and not scares. So tell me, have any of you Hellboy fans had nightmares from these comics or been scared in any way be them? Is Hellboy meant to be scary? Or is it more like Godzilla Vs Whoever where it's just about watching monsters fight each other? I'm not suggesting that it won't be a good movie, I just don't know if I'd call it a horror movie. For all I know it could be the next Citizen Kane but that isn't a horror movie either.

It will be a PG-13 monster movie and there should always be room for monster movies in a horror forum. I don't think it'll be scary or disturbing but the same could be said for most modern horror movies.
You're right, most horror movies aren't scary. But I think they are meant to be scary. Even the original Godzilla was meant to be scary. The makers of the film were TRYING to scary you. In my opinion that is what makes a movie a horror movie. What is the number one thing the filmmakers were trying to do? Make you laugh? Cry? Excited? Or feel Fear? Of course you could say that the only reason any movie is made is to entertain. But how is it trying to entertain?

Someone started a tread about "The Passion Of The Christ" and was told that it shouldn't be in this form. Someone else was told that about "The Lord Of The Rings". I think many films that are not "horror" include things that horror fans enjoy. I'm more of a fantasy film fan than just a horror film fan. I like every kind of movie really but fantasy films are my favorite and most horror movies could be called fantasy films. I was really just trying to make a point. I think we should be allowed to discuss nearly anykind of movie here. If a thread is started a members discuss about a movie and we discuss it then it should be allowed to stay without anyone fighting about if it is or isn't a horror movie. Is this a place for horror fans to talk about movies they like or a place to talk only about horror movie? I may end up being one of Hellboy's biggest fans, I don't know, I do know that if it wasn.t talked about here I may have never seen it. The same could be said about others and LOTR or The Passion...

Not really related to the film, perse, but I saw Mezco's 18" Hellboy at a comic book store yesterday and can only say one thing; HOLY FUCK. Looks fuckin' great.

Wanted to dip into this thread today to brag because...

I just got myself some Hellboy toys. Didn't have the big money to get the 18" fuckin' superb Hellboy, but I did snag Mezco's mini-version. He's just amazing. The sculpt is a beaut. The articulation is just...wow. Love this little mofo!
