EqualBias: The Recruitment Drive Redux!

I'm doing things a bit differently. Instead of trying to assign people something to write, I'd rather just tell you guys what we (think) we need and see who can provide it. It is not that I wasn’t happy with how things went in the recruitment drive; I’d just like things to be more open for you guys. I want you to choose what you want to write, rather than we assign something.

We are planning on launching in mid-January to go along with the beginning of the primary season. For the launch we are going to need some content on the site, that’s where you guys come in. After discussing this with Sorro we came up with two major sets of articles we'd like to have on the site for launch. First will be critiques of the presidential candidates by both conservatives and liberals. Secondly I'd like some general issue pieces. I’d also like some ideas on how to add an edge to the site. I’ve got a few ideas, including polls conducted by us as well as profiles of lesser known presidential candidates but I’d like your ideas.

To make this successful I'm going to need some of you to really help out. I'm taking care of all the backend on my own. I could use a couple of reliable writers to help me out on some kind of regular basis and this will be how I decide who really is reliable. Anyone who is interested in putting in some time and provides good work will immediately become part of the whole administration. Right now it’s mainly just me and Sorro, I’d like to add a few others.

So post with what you think you can provide.

I will say that for those who can't commit, if you want to contribute we will accept your work, but what we really need right now are people who can be a part of some sort of schedule. Anywhere from 1 or 2 articles a week, to 1 a month would be awesome. This would mainly be for the beginning of the sites existence; I believe that as time moves on the site will shape itself.

Thanks guys, I look forward to your responses. For now on I'm going to be taking a lot more initiative.

Just a general FYI, Ben was gracious enough to extend an invite for me to beat the drum for some of my rather eccentric views in public.

I've already got an idea for my 1st piece; I've gotta sit down and brainstorm a list to work off of and get some research done. Can't be talking out of our asses, now.

Some of the topics we were thinking of for the launch are the core campaign issues. While some have been/may be neutralized, it'd be interesting to have an article per issue. What I have come up with is the following:

-Iraq/Afghanistan (these could be treated together or separately)
-The military (different from the Iraq/Afghanistan columns in the sense that the military is more of a "what's next" idea rather than "how do we finish what we started")
-Social Security
-Trade
-Homeland security (this includes immigration/TSA/etc. Anything that would fall under the HS banner)
-US fiscal policy (this could be broken up, but for now just a single sector that includes the deficit and spending policy)
-The economy (interest rates, how the economy is doing, what/who is responsible, etc)

Of course, there are the candidates as well:
Bush
Dean
Lieberman
Kerry
Edwards
Sharpton
Mosley-Braun
Clark
Kucinich
Gephardt

and we would want one person from each side per candidate. As of right now, assuming that I would do 1 column for issues and 1 for the candidates, I would like to do the military and Bush, but I'll claim my columns last if someone else would prefer to write on either of those subjects from the conservative POV. If you could just start staking claim on these columns if you are interested so we have a running tally and so others can see what is left, that would be great.

I'd probably be most interested in doing stuff on Kucinich and Homeland Security.

I think I qualify as "left" - or at the very least, Anti-Bush.

Awwww! But I wanted Kucinich. He's sooo dreamy.

I could probably handle trade, but from a more international perspective.

You both can, if there are a bunch of people on the site who like Kucinih we could even do a feature about him (I personally don't know much about him).

I'd love your opinion on the WTO and organizations like it Raoul, especially with your experience. An article from a protestors perspective would be great.

Need a Libertarian POV on things? I'd love to do it in a few months. After I get through my next English class. I'm still brushing up on the old grammer and writing skills right now. Not to mention over coming the fear of having other people read what I write. Shit, are yall reading this. Oh no.

I would be willing to be a man on the ground at protests and what not.

I'll write about anything you want me to for a lefty perspective. Any topic is game with me. I can write regularly too, until I get my real job.

Kucinich fans! WOW! And here I thought he was only running in order to find a wife.

Ok, so Evan, Rauol, Jherek and Chavez, what do you want to write about? It looks like Guttenburg and Sorro will probably each write a feature about the candidates (it will cover all canddiates including Bush). If one of you guys wants to go into Kucinih (or two of you) that would be fine. A peice by Rauol on something relating to the protests would be awesome. I'd like for each of you guys to try to have something ready to be posted in the first couple of weeks of the sites existence (Mid January) do you think that would be possible?

I was planning to do an anti-MADD op/ed piece.

That's right, I'm for dead children!

If you are serious that would be awesome. Be honest, I'm a huge fan of Drunk Driving. The fact its illegal is just unconventional.

I'm kind of a political newbie so how's this sound, I take an aspect of our government or some issue and tackle it from that viewpoint. Sort of a weekly, "Idiot's Guide to Politics"?
Just give me a topic and I'll whip something up. Deadlines are no problem.

What do you feel most knowledgeable about? Give me a few topics that really interest you.
Well, I'm most knowledgeable about foreign relations and the like, but I can research just about any topic. Anything you need doing, I'll do.

How cool is this tease ?
Niiiice.

I am stalled at present. I'm not sure how to start, but I do know that if we are going to have a column titles for those of us who desire to be weekly/regular contributors, I would like to call mine Equilibrium.

Shouldn't that be election season '04?

Good point, I'll change that when I'm back in town.

I need a deadline. When do you need something by?
I could, occasionaly, attempt to write pieces on major Supreme Court/ 9th Circus decisions from a decidedly conservative legal opinion.

But of course there are those who are much more knowledgable than I, so if you got that covered its cool. (I also recommend Overlord for that job. He's smart.)

That'd be fine. We are not expecting experts. Just knowledgeble citizens. I could really use more writers, and if you can get something ready for launch that would be awesome.

That's awsome. As long as you include the recipe for cluster Bible-Bombs, I'll check it out.
