Do you play or display?

To open or not to open? That is the question.
Out of the box and set on the shelf, to be displayed in various cool positions.

Toys were not meant to be kept in boxes and stored away.

When I was a kid, it was definately play. And in a lot of unfortunate cases, break. If I could have a lot of my old toys back (ie: transformers), I would definately have them on display somehow. But probably still out of the box. Maybe in a cool case or something.

Totally out of the box and on the shelf.
Display, but sometimes Dr. Doom's just gotta whoop somebody's ass. Like last night when he dogged the new DC Direct Supes I found at Media Play.
I usually take them out, but sometimes I do keep them in the package.
Depends on what it is. Most of my collection is open on displayed on shelves.
Most of the stuff I get I open. But some items, like my John Matrix figure from "Commando" must stay as the Lord created them.
Most opened with kept boxes.

Depends on what it is.

My collection of random cool actors (Chow Yun Fat from CTHD, Kurt Russell from BTLC, Sid 'Mutha Fuckin' Haig...) are open and on display. Poised to look cool and kick the shit out of assorted McFarlane Movie Maniacs.

Star Wars crap...opened but packed away. Save for some Clone Troopers.

LOTR figures. All MOC.

Kubricks...there's an orgy of Kubricks. Little fuckers are loose and randy...

Depends on the toy.

Some McFalrane toys, for example, are unopened, and hang on push pins stuck in the wall. Same for my old Starting Line-Ups. Those things don' have as much playability. And the McF toys, some of them look cool in the packaging.

Kubricks all get opened and put on display. I've got about 20 of them now, waging a silent war on one shelf of the bookshelf.

The top of the bookshelf has an 18" Ash, and 18" Mike Myers, and the Mc F Alien vs. Predator. All opened.

The bottom of the bookshelf has an unopened Alien Queen set. I want to open it, just don't have room right now to display.

Django, what Sid Haig figure do you have? They didn't make a Captain Spalding figurine did they?

Good luck when attempting to open that baby up, it took me a good while to pry ol' queeny away from the army of plastic ties holdin' her in.

and yes Momotaro there is a Capt. Spaulding fig. although I didn't know it was already out.

Since we got a digital camera for Xmas, here are some pics of my collection:

TOYS

I still have a few figs stashed in boxes while I wait for more display shelves.

Man oh man, you've got both the big and regular size "Commando" figures. Pretty cool stuff you've got there.

Yea, the big Commando fig actually came in the original (red) box, but it was in pretty bad shape, so I just opened it for display.

Thanks for the look! As you can tell, I love the shit out of the Marvel Legends and just pick up a few things here and there. I have a shit load of Stickfas I gotta display and some opened Star Wars figs to display. It's just tough finding decent display shelves.

Anybody know of any good display shelving?

I think I saw a familiar Wookiee on that monitor...

Cootar! Yep, that would be Gaaryca, taking a break outside of the house.

You ever going to log in again Coot?

I've been on quite a bit over the past few days!

As for toys, I open everything, but keep the packages for most of them. I have a shelf full of Simpsons figures on the other side of this office, and some Star Wars figs on a small bookshelf elsewhere. Also, a few SW Lego models scattered about. The Technics Battle Droid and Destroyer Droid on this desk are my favorites.

Let's see some pics!

I REALLY, REALLY want the new Lego AT-AT. But it's hard to spend $80 on a Lego set...

That's cool, Coot. Hopefully we'll run into each other in-game as I have a new heavy harv to give ya.

All are opened as soon as I get home, and added to the horde (box) until an epic battle calls them out onto the living room floor/fireplace/bookshelf or on the sunny part of the sidewalk outside under the magnifying glass.

Dude, way to go! I have the coolest Mars Lunar Rover by HotWheels that I keep on my monitor wherever I work. I bought it in a set that included the orbiter and the whole unit splayed out like flower petals.

Appropriate considering we're showing a live Mars feed this weekend on PBS...stay tuned.

I'm new to this board,, I love figures.. oh so much. I would like to say I do both.. I have walls and walls of figures that are still in the box. But when I want out of the box I usually buy 2 figures.. I don't play with the cause I never have time. But I do have time to look at them with awe...!!
Depends on the package for me. If the package is cool keep MOC if not, open it. Its all for display anyway (unless no one is looking of course and Han needs to shoot Greedo first.)
I loooooooooooove toys! I'm an avid collector of certain figures. If it's an ultra-cool figure, then I'll buy 2 one to play with and one to display. But my heart is in the right place...I WANT to play with my toys. Although a lot of my Spider Man and Venom toys are loose....because those are damn fun to play with!

In my cube at work, I keep a lot of my opened figures and "stuff," too. Currently, Iron Man, Rob Zombie and Boba Fett are competing for my attention
post #26 of 31
I sometimes take toys to work, but I usually end up bringing them home as people usually don't respect my shit. Pisses me off.
I can understand that but since I work in a cube in the back of hell....no one ever comes to see me. My toys are pretty safe. I also only bring toys I have multiples of or wouldn't go ape shit if something happened to them, lol.
I usually take them out of the box in a frenzy, then I end up regretting it later.
Yea,, I would love to take my toys to my cube but Mr. and Ms. CEO prohibit the use of toys or dolls in cubes.. All pics must be in a frame. All frames must be on a desk. No toys, no dolls, no posters, casual dress on Friday. The things I need to go thru for this job.. But then again people are theives there and I wouldnt want to display any one of them..either...

Did anyone pick up the Horror Collectors book by chance?
I always take them out and use them! Granted, I take care of them, but I think it's wrong to buy really neat toys and not at LEAST take them out of the box, because you're depriving little children of hours of joy. Statues like half of McFarlane's "toys" don't really count for that, but if I bought any GI Joe or Marvel figure and didn't use it, I would feel guilty. Toys are good to look at, but they're more fun to play with. Sometimes, even though Doctor Doom and the Predator look good on top of my TV, they have to come down to dispense some ass-kicking to the insubordinates.
It depends on if I have two of them or not. If I have two, one gets opened, while the other stays in the box. If I only have one though, it stays in the box for display.
