"Earlier Friday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger quietly gave the green light to a plan to borrow $10.7 billion without voter approval -- a plan he had previously criticized."

The rest of the story here: http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/....ap/index.html !

California = sun stroke = voting for Kindergarten Cop.

This proves even more that the Davis recall wasn't a witch hunt. Right? Somebody?

Where is Gray Davis?

I hope he's in some field, breaking his back while picking berries like a migrant worker. Would be a fitting end to a shameful career.

He's gone. It's over. So why bring him up in a thread about the hypocrisy of the current Governor? Why, that's just like invoking Clinton's name to divert criticism of Bush and nobody would stoop to lousy tactics like that, right?

The Cali recall is early enough that I can wonder out load where that bastard is. Plus, I really hope he's doing some nice manual labor like the one described, or perhaps cleaning toilets or washing clothes, since he thinks that what Hispanic immigrants are only good for.

As for Arnold's vote? Oh my, a politician broke a promise! It's pointless here since this was something Davis was going to do anyways. What's there to discuss?

Then why did you post in this thread?

We could discuss how the state recalled Davis because of the way that he was running things, and how his successor is doing exactly what Davis would have done. We could start there maybe.

So...Arnie does something that Davis, that "bastard", was going to do anyway, and there's nothing to discuss?

It's OK to ponder if Davis is working in a field, but to bring up the topic of the current Governer, who was voted into office on a wave of anti-Davis feeling, reneging on one of his election promises only a few months into his term is a waste of time?

Hmm...

Ironically they are very simliar. For example, he got the driver license for illegal immigrants law repealed, just like Davis nuked that proposal several times before he turned Kamikaze in a desperate drive for votes and "changed" his mind.

Yes, they are similar.

The main difference they have, is that he might have a lot of power to influence the legislators, since he's still riding on the popularity of the last election. Where Davis had just scant party affiliation to help him, this guy has popular support behind him. It already failed him in this vote, but he can always go back to the voters to pressure the legislature.

The question is how long that influence over the voters will last, if he doesn't get results quick, it's going to erode as fast as Ventura's support dissapeared into a black hole.

Oh yes it's OK to fantasize about this. Seeing him do some hard manual labor (an alien concept for him) will just make me very happy, since I'm an immigrant and this idiot thinks that's what we are good for.

Sorry, I don't have to apologize for enjoying the results of Karma here.

Since the gist of the article is that Arnie can't get his budget passed, I would say his influence ended already.
Wow. That's misinformed. I'm curious as to how you define "influence."
He hasn't used the voters against the legislature yet. Wheter he should do so for the budget battle, is a key question.

There's a good post from Weintraub at http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/insider/ about that topic.
