From the genius that bungled the handling of the defeated Iraqi army... - Page 2

The truly sad and devastating part of the above cartoon is the fact that America is treating Iraq like a huge banquet that gets to be divided amongst the invaders, and it's treated like a moral victory. Iraq is just a stuffed pig with an apple in its mouth, and America gets to divvy it up among its closest friends.

Sickening.

Nice work, Singer.

Actually I love the characters picked for the different countries, specially France. Nice work!

It's absurd that the admin is "sticking to its guns" on this one.

We're just acting like spoiled third graders, and trying to pass this off as a simple bribe and not retribution doesn't make us look any better.

My thoughts exactly.

I wonder how many Coalition nations actually have firms large enough to deal with these contracts. Iceland? Eritria? Tonga? We don't, and I'd be willing to bet we operate on a larger scope than those three countries. Possibly the UK has the resources, but I'd guess they operate on a scale closer to Canada's than the US's.

No, saying "this is for us and our allies" means "this is for us. And maybe England if they're really really nice." I'll be surprised if any other Coalition countries have the resources to do this.

That cartoon is great! "Sowing the seeds of freedom!" Fucking brilliant! Oh man, that's priceless. And France! Like a snivelling cowardly weasel begging for scraps!

Oh, wait.

You're serious.

Just like we have to assume most of you, my friends, are serious when you post your cartoons.

Funny how a coin has two sides...

Yup, it's a well conceived and drawn editorial cartoon. Love the hat on the weasel, to think I once wore one in my French club ... gack!

France bashing too! Right on. That's the way to make your point.
Admitting to wearing a ridiculous hat of a country is bashing? Hey, in my country I wore hats of the region that embarass the heck out of me. Chill!

Anyways I did say I was in the French Club for goodness sake, at least I know a bit of the language (and appreciate it, except for the broken numbering system)

I'm chilled.

But you're still wrong, y'know. The argument that this is all about freeing the people of Iraq doesn't hold water. It was the third excuse given for this war when people didn't fall for the WMD line or the Violating UN Sanctions line. The first was a lie, the second is not for the US to decide, and the third is just a smokescreen designed to appeal to emotion. After all, who could argue against freedom?

If there were a good reason to go to war against Iraq, it'd be blatantly obvious. Germany's invasion of Poland was certainly good enough to go to war over. So was the attack on Pearl Harbour. As was the attack on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Nowhere, Pennsylvania. As far as Iraq goes, the US seems to be scrambling for excuses to have done this.

And it's been really sad to watch, let me tell you. I don't know why people fall for it.

I'm sorry but what are we talking about now? The case or non-case for war, the reconstruction contracts, or my "French bashing"?
I'm pointing out the false premise in your cartoon. It's not a matter of the other nations refusing to do all the noble, good work but wanting to reap the benefits. There wasn't a case for war, so they didn't go to war. The lack of a case is blatantly obvious. Freezing other nations out of the rebuilding process for the benefit of corporations with ties to the White House speaks volumes about the real reason Bush went to war. That cartoon paints the situation in an entirely false light.

If getting Iraq rebuilt is so important, why not get as many firms in there as possible? Two or three or six construction firms can do the job faster than one, yes?

As for the French bashing, I'm chilled. As I said.
Actually you are just going around in circles, with the most obvious attempt by panicking for non-existent French bashing (making fun of a hat).

The other countries are not frozen out from recunstruction, but the primary reconstruction which I'm partly paying for, is not going to them. I have no problem with that. Notice how these countries are not upset they can't help, but they're upset they can't profit from the recountruction. Very noble, eh?

One more time re: the French bashing. I jumped the gun. I apologize. I'm chilled.

But if you can't see the forest for the trees, I can't make you. You ought to be getting all the hands and backs and brains you can if this is solely about getting Iraq back on its feet. I say it's not. It's about punishment for not falling for the Bush administration's lies. I've been following American news long enough to realize how Bush works. If yer not fer, yer agin and all that.
