I hate sounding like a broken record, but was the economy really all that bad to begin with? You guys climed to what, 5-7% national unemployment at the height of the "recession"? Here in Canada 7% unemployment is low-to-average, and everyone I know has work. How much of what has been going on in the States that has been negative economically has to do with less jobs? Or is it that the economy is re-structuring itself into something not seen in the States yet? Some new beast you have to learn how to deal with?
Here it's been "I don't want the lowly retail job because I am too good for it" syndrome. ALL of the retail places were hiring since June and not finding people, and you had 50 million people applying for that $12.00/hr call center job. What does that mean in the long term? Has the economy changed so much that only people with unique or extensive skill-sets can hope to make a living wage? Will companies start hiring again? Or is this just the way things are now and we all have to adapt?
