If you had to vote for one of the 9 candidates who would it be?

Oh, and if I absolutely had to vote Democratic I'd go with Joe.

His being the strongest of the 9 on national defense gives him the edge.
Of course you would, he's a republican.
The poll is not clear, if you are a Republican you'll vote for the least likely to win the general election, if you are a Dem. for the most likely to win the general election. If you're an independent ... we'll you might not care! :-)

I would have chosen Clark, but then he opened his mouth.

So for serious candidate, I'd vote for Dean.

But in my heart, I would vote for Kucinich, the comedic potential of such a president is just limitless.

In a perfect world, I'd vote for Kuchinic. I have a few problems with him, but overall he comes closest to lining up with my ideals. But at this point, it's a three-man race. No way Kuchinic could get the nomination, and if he did there's definitely no way he could beat Bush, and even if he did beat Bush he wouldn't be able to work with a republican congress (it'd be Carter all over again).

Of the three front-runners, it's about equal. I don't think any of them are really a hold-your-nose-and-vote choice. If Clark is really planning on choosing Hillary as his running mate, then that would strike him out for me. When are the Democrats going to realize what a liability the Clintons are?

Just out of curiosity, are you worried about spaced based mind control devices?

Not even close. Being moderately strong on national defense does not make one a R(capital R)epublican.

There was a time when most of the Democratic party were strong on the defense of their nation. Sadly, that time has passed.

I do have to wonder what JFK would think of the front-runner of his party being so weak on all matters military.

Approach it as if you had no other choice *shudder* and had to think "lesser of all evils".

OK, that puts things into perspective. I would chose Dean I guess. Like I said, I was with Clark until he started speaking.
Dean is weak on military, that's why I voted for Sharpton. And you're wrong about the Dems not protecting our country (though good show for repeating party line!).

What gave you the idea that GW Bush was strong on military? Because it's obviously important to you that before one becomes president they prove some expertise.
Sharpton? OK, so we're not going for electabilty.
So far, none of the above.
<---- is a Republican

You think the Republican Party is strong on the defense of America, when:

1) Upon regaining the Presidency, they promptly ignored Richard Clarke's repeated requests for action on Al-Qaida and Bin Laden's surging popularity and threats against the US well before 9/11.

2) They allow an entire enemy army to slip through their fingers once they've defeated them, now allowing us to face guerilla attacks from the same forces for years or even decades to come.

3) They refuse to take substantial action against Saudi Arabia (9/11 financiers) Iran (where people want to be freed from a tyrannical government AND Al-Qaida is openly regrouping and resupplying) and North Korea (who is intent on selling off their nuclear stores to the highest bidder)

4) They engineered the starting of a war with a country that posed no threat to us, when we were already fighting another war with a foe that attacked us directly and was "on the ropes."

That sounds like military strength to you?

Edit: Also, people in both parties care about defending this country, but it's unfair to say either party does or does not (My remarks above are about the Bush admin than ALL Republicans)

I vote for Clark, but then again I don't know much about this candidate. However, I think he's a moderate and I think the Dems should nominate someone who's middle-of-the-road. I think Dean has the best chance of winning, but he's a bit too left to my liking. I'd take any of them over Dubya, though.
Kucinich. Almost lefty enough for me.

I'll vote for any of the 9 over Bush, but if it were Lieberman, it would be the most bitter pill of the lot. He is basically a Republican.

Of course, I live in Texas, so my vote for president in the general election will be meaningless anyway. Though it would be nice to see a poetic reversal of the 2000 election and have Bush lose his home state.

Though I identify most with their platform, I'm actually glad the Greens haven't floated a national candidate yet. I think they should probably sit this one out and work on building the party nationally after Bush loses and we've had 4 years of sanity in the White House.

What is it about Dean that makes him so far left. Seems pretty middle-of-the-road on most issues to me.

I vote Cthulu.

Why choose the lesser of two evils?

Sorry, I saw that on a bumper sticker and I want one.

JFK would totally cruise to the top of the field today, no matter what his platform was.

He'd be the best looking. Plus, who wouldn't vote for someone who'd bagged Marilyn?

....

The sad part is, only half of that is a joke.

(Note, I'm not saying JFK would be a bad choice--I'm just saying the choice now [and maybe even then] would be about form over substance.)

Seriously, though, if he were electable, I'd probably vote Kucinich, just b/c I'm one of those raving lefties Rush and Bill O'Reilly warned you about. Of course, for all my vote counted last election, I might as well have voted for Nader. Thank you, Electoral College.

<---tangent--Weren't they talking about rethinking the whole EC after the last election? Or did I dream it?
Hey, O'Reilly is an independent. Don't lump him in with righties like Rush.

edited to note my man is closing in! Sharpton just needs a couple more votes. Come on, people! Help bring Al into the white house!
If I HAD to vote Democrat for president, I would vote Al Sharpton in a heartbeat. Not only does he actually talk sense once in a blue moon, but the comic relief from that presidency would be almost as much as Kucinich's.

Almost, but not equal. Not even Sharpton could pull off dates from campaining.

Kucinich all the way, baby!

No way, brother. In the no spin zone, Bill only brings honesty and fresh opinion while being a firm independant who just happens to also be a registered republican.
I was waiting to see if that was a joke or not as well. Waiting at an end.

Of course, I watch Bill so...

But, but, but ... he always says he's an independent.

Oh look, he doesn't like SUVs!!!!
Al Sharpton would be great. But when he loses early on I hope he runs with Ralph Nader as Vice President in the Green Party and the Republicans and Democrats let them debate Bush/Dean and their Vice Presidents. As long as the Green Party(or any other Party) is on enough ballots to win Electorial College they should be allowed to debate.

Could you imagine Cheaney vs Sharpton vs Whatever Dem Nominee? Sharpton and Nader might force both sides to answer questions.

No doubt he's going to get a letter from some po-dunk calling him a communist for his anti-SUV stance, which he will then use as evidence for his independent viewpoint.

Fuck all the guys. It's time to put a woman in there.

I voted for Joe Lieberman.
I vote Lieberman. He's the most conservative of all the candidates, and he needs some love since Al Gore dumped him for a pretty new face.
