Poltical research...

I'm going to try and write for EqualBias. I'm not what you would call extremely politically savvy and part of the reason I want to write for the site is to make me do some serious political research/thinking. I want to know what sites (or any other media but websites are free and plentiful) you visit to get your latest information. I already read some of the news portals like CNN.com and the NY times. I listen to NPR, Christian talk radio, and watch Fox news and CNN. The point of my column will be to try and deliver a more moderate view on what's going on and to act as a sort of primer to others like me who don't eat, drink, and breathe this stuff. Any recommendations (other than do your own looking) are welcome.

For news, my best sources are news.yahoo.com and news.google.com. Yahoo.com is mostly Reuters feeds, but news.google.com has lots of sources from newspapers all over the world. Good luck.

The absolute best starting point before you embark on your new occupation is THIS ARTICLE.

Read it, read it again, and then read it again until it is burned into your brain for eternity (forget about the age of the piece - that is incidental).

When you have finished, choose any news article you like (I'd suggest the BBC as your site of choice, but it makes no real difference) and whilst reading it, recall Orwell’s words.

If he doesn’t make you fundamentally re-think your attitudes toward the media and politics, nothing will.

Of course, I like the standards - CNN, NY Times, and so on. Google News is great because you can search for a term and get back things from other papers that you normally wouldn't - things like the Guardian, Washington Post, and so on. For good insider information, I really like The Hill (www.thehill.com), mainly because it is free and Roll Call costs money.
