I don't think it will go over well at all, judging from the very vocal resentment the trailer got before Return of the King. Many of my friends (and my girlfriend) think it looks horrible, despite my protests that it's supossed to look a little goofy.

The mass audience is made up of people who watch Survivor and beat each other up over $30 DVD players. What do they know?

If the movie's weak, it's weak. But the concept is golden.

I don't take the opinions of 14-18 year old boys and girls seriously.

These are the people who flock to a movie like Scary Movie 3, yet don't even bat an eyelash towards Last Samurai.

I think it's pretty bold of Paramount to set this up as a big Summer movie, given that it's stylistically very...niche. For the studio that force-fed us the filth sandwich of the Tomb Raider franchise to get behind something like this, well, I think that deserves some credit.

I think it looks like a blast (although Nick's computer game intro argument is a fair one) and I think it'd be a shame if talk of the movie gets hung up on the CGI. Of course, like a lot of geeks, I'm a sucker for that retro sci-fi feel - giant robots vs Spitfires! - but I have serious doubts about the box office appeal.

But then I'd rather have a cool movie that flops than a shit movie that succeeds.

This looks just plain fucking awesome.

18-49, people!

LOL, I guess they really had to add the Sky Captain part, because I ended up ignoring this thread thinking it was for The Day After Tomorrow.

I have to agree that my Thursday night showing at the Astor Plaza Loews was met with snickers, but damn that theater was abnormally quiet... let's see how it is on a Saturday night.

Sure hope it's as good as it looks.

Why doesn't someone just make a Crimson Skies movie?

I mean, this looks like Fortune Hunters of the Crimson Skies vs. The Iron Giant. I half expected to hear "I'm Nathan Zachary!" when Jude Law showed up on screen.

Hell, I'll see it, but I'm just saying, why not build on an existing name?

Maybe the director wanted to write and Direct his own original film.

Exactly. We need more remakes and movies based on videogames.

Well, I am not sold on this movie in the least, but my INTEREST is certainly peaked. The cast is solid, if not great, but I for one am not sold on Jude Law being the next big thing. He just seems like a pussy in everything I have seen him in, even Road to Perdition. Sure Cold Mountain got the most Golden Globe nods, but audience reaction from test screenings seems to be very mixed. Back to World, it looks like it is a mix of modern Sci-Fi combined with 50's era style, so it is certainly unique. However, it looks like the type of film that is just plain awesome, or just downright silly.

Looks FANTASTIC....

... but STOP USING THE DAMN MUSIC FROM STARGATE ALREADY. That is all.

As Cartman would say....
"What's the big fuckin deal, bitch?"

You've got a bunch of bland-o acting and iron giants running around. I'm not feelin' it.

Yeah, I know, most of them suck the almighty sack. But hey, good source material + decent filmmakers (could)= good film.

Bear in mind that, if I'm not mistaken, the "evil flying machines/giant robots" are only PART of what goes on in this flick. There's also a mad scientist, a far-flung jungle island, and giant monsters. And I'm not sure but there may be Nazis too.

The key here is the attempt to recreate old-fashioned movie serials.

I am crazy excited about this movie. I'd not ventured into any thread about the flick before today, but WOW... that is one cool-ass trailer. The Iron Giant vibe didn't hurt one bit.

looks interesting..I just wish Angelina Jolie wasnt in it
post #70 of 71
Dude, right? I was digging the trailer, then What the Fuck?! She's in this? It was weird and off-putting. Kinda cooled me on the whole movie.

Awesome trailer, simply awesome.

Besides the obvious Iron Giant vibes from the robots, it also looks like Conran hired the artists and designers on the Last Exile anime. If Sky Captain is even half as good, this baby is gonna be an instant classic.

For some reason, I also get Chaykin's American Flagg vibes; maybe it's the grainy look.

Dreams of a Rocketeer franchise...
