Nintendo Game Boy Player

Thread Starter
Just for those of you who do not know what a Gameboy Player is, it is the add-on piece of equipment that attaches to the bottom of the Nintendo Gamecube and plays Gameboy games - although you do need to run the boot disc in the Gamecube for the system and the gameboy game to run.

Now with that info out of the way, how many of you own a Gameboy Player? Do you enjoy it? Hate it? Would recommend it? Any precautions? Which games do you enjoy playing on it?

Myself, I'm thinking of getting one, but there hasn't been any significant buzz around the Gameboy player since it was released in June of this year, let alone hearing how many units are sold each month. Let me know what you chewers think.

I think there are no Gameboy Advance games worth $40.

I disagree. There are a lot of Sega games that have come to the console that I wouldn't mind having the chance to play again.

Portibility is the convenient aspect of the Gameboy Advance and some games are worth having whenever and wherever.

Getting the Gameboy Player to use it to play SMB 3 on the big screen is worth every dollar. Where you're hands won't cramp up or cry out as arthritis kicks in early as it would using the two iterations of nintendo's portable painbringer.

A nice replacement for those who haven't ever possesed either the old NES/SNES or in some cases those old machines won't function again.

I love mine. Advance Wars 1&2 and Fire Emblem are my crack of choice on the GBA, and sometimes it's nice to have the option of playing them in a comfy chair without worrying about a light source, etc.

I own Zelda: A Link to the Past, which is also great, but I haven't spent any time with that on the Player yet.

It's a great addition to the 'cube in my opinion, but I got mine free when I found one Platinum GC bundle with the Player packed in just after the price dropped to $99, so my opinion of its value may be skewed a bit. (basically, I wouldn't have bought the 'cube yet if I hadn't gotten the free Player)

I own a GB Player. It's a good investment depending on what types of games you play on your GBA. If you are into fighters, or racers, or Pokemon (heh), then there really isn't much need for the Player. If you are into the Mario and Sonic remakes (and I highly recommend the Super Mario Advance titles) it can help out, certainly making it easier to pull off some touchy jumping tricks. If you are into slower platformers, like the Castlevania games or Metroid Fusion, it's a bit of a toss-up... the games look and play fine on the GBA, but your eyes will rejoice with the Player experience.

And finally... if you intend to play the GBA RPG games (and there are some excellent old-school RPGs available for the GBA), you should very seriously consider getting a Player. RPGs = long gaming sessions, lots of reading, small type, complicated menu systems. Bad, bad, bad on the little screen. I'm not saying it's impossible to play Golden Sun on the GBA, just painful. Even more so with the strategy RPG titles, such as Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Wonderful game. Playing it on the GBA for half an hour is hard. Playing it for four hours (which I have done) leads to bleeding from the eye sockets. The GB Player is highly recommended for anyone intending to play RPGs or fast-paced, jumping oriented platformers.

SMB 3 on Game Boy player = crack. In fact, I'm playing it right now!
