Now that is great DVD cover!!!

I'm not sure how many of you know this film but Sergio Martino's GREAT ALLIGATOR RIVER got a DVD release in Germany a few days ago.

BEST. COVER. EVER.

Even though the maw of the croc looks disturbingly like a gigantic toothy vagina ... Yes, I know, shut up Wetbones and keep your neurosis to yourself ...

There is German and English audio on the DVD so if anyone is actually interested in the film you could track it down. You may be familiar with Martino from his giallo TORSO which came out in a cut version from Anchor Bay a while ago.

A vagina...eating...a...vagina?

Ahem, woman in danger alert! Woman in danger alert!

(Great cover.)

That was cut? No wonder it was so terrible...I gave the DVD away terrible. It seemed like it was missing....everything. Boring as hell. Plus the only set of boobies that they showed (that I remember anyways) were about the ugliest, most hideous titties I've ever seen. Even my fiance was like "woof...put those things away...please". At least I'm 99.8% positive that was in Torso.

Back on subject, that is a mighty fine DVD cover though.

Well, Anchor Bay claimed that it is uncut and their print is certainly several minutes longer than the old VHS release but according to a review I read in DARK SIDE it's still missing a few bits here and there. I doubt that those snippets would greatly improve the film. If you hated the Anchor Bay version chances are you'd hate the fully uncut version as well.

It was just boring as hell. I really like giallo and the synopsis sounded good, but ugh. It just went nowhere. To be honest, I didn't watch the whole thing though. I fell asleep about 3/4 of the way through (and it wasn't because of the Rachelepsy either) and I just couldn't bring myself to ever try to finish it.

You should try and track down a copy of the uncut I Corpi presentano tracce di violenza carnale (The Corpse Display Traces Of Carnal Violence) - which Wetbones may be able to advise is available in Europe ? Man, did they ever know how to title things in the 70s! My lecturer loaned me his copy for my dissertation at uni a few years back and I recall it being quite something....well, something of an anomally in Martino's career at any rate. He's kind of the Peter Hyams of that prolific Italian 70's set - perfectly functional and professional, but ultimately forgettable hackwork for the most part.

Give me Antonio Bido, Aldo Lado or Massimo Dallamano any day, but an uncut Torso ain't so bad - certainly better than Blade In The Dark or Macabro.

But, yeah, in the days of floaty heads, you can always rely on the good old ribladery of Euro cult cinema. That's beautiful.

Well, I'm sure you know that I CORPI PRESENTANO TRACCE DI VIOLENZA CARNALE is the original Italian title of TORSO ... And funnily enough Addix' comments got me curious (because I'm a sucker for punishment) and I watched the German DVD of TORSO today. It is advertised as being 7 minutes longer than the Anchor Bay US DVD and that figures cause there were more boobies on display than I could count and even some interracial lezbo muffdiving. Yup. Add a guy who has his head smashed to a bloody pulp against a wall and the climactic sawing off of all sorts of limbs and you've got a mildly entertaining sleazy little giallo.

Here's an online store that carries it:

Damn...their description sounds nothing like what I watched. Maybe I just fell asleep before it got interesting or something. I remember a wholey uninteresting murder, a scarf, some (really really) ugly boobed chick smoking a joint and making out with some guys, uhhh.....*snore*

Heh, that stuff does happen before they drive to that house in the country. Weird, I didn't think her boobs were that ugly ... Maybe being gay made me immune or something?

Torso is actually very good if you can get past the 70s Euroness. Killer suspense scene somewhere around the middle, when she's trying to escape the room.

WAIT A MINUTE

( yes, this is a case for color )

TORSO, especially the final reel, is excellent IMHO ... While it is not quite in the same league as Hitch's FRENZY or Argento's DEEP RED, I would not hesitate to mention it in the same breath as those great films ....

TORSO has a great sexy female cast, a classic creepy/muddy scene in the woods and a knockout change when location changes to the house in the hills ...

I'm really surprised at the flack this film is getting here ... It's an excellent and disturbing film IMHO ....

Heh, I watched GREAT ALLIGATOR RIVER and what a fun flick it was! But just don´t expect the croc to look anything like that badass thing on the cover ... In the actual film it is made alternately of rubber and ... paper!

The story is about this tourist resort in the middle of the jungle where everything goes well until the natives decide that they have to summon their alligator god to devour those pesky tourists. Deaths are in the dozens both from the croc god and the indians but the film is not particularily gory. And thank god there was no real animal torture or killing.

I dunno but both films were made in 1987 so maybe it was just the fashionable thing to do at the time?

more likely cos the words "original" and "Lamberto Bava" don't go together.
