Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly

Suprised no one made a thread for this, but here it goes. This game was #1 on my christmas list. Finally got around to playing it last night after an afternoon of Prince of Persia. This game scared the shit out of me. I had the lights off in my room, had my headphones hooked up to the game, and I was just in that zone. Basically with this game, if you loved the first one which I did, then this one is going to be a treat. The story in this one is about two twin sisters, and one day while sitting in a forest one of the sisters, Mayu, sees a Crimson Butterly and follows it into the forest. You, Mio, then go looking for her and find that she has a discovered a lost village in the woods, in which everyone in the village disappeared on the night of a festival held there. That is pretty much where the game starts, and from there it is one huge mind-fuck. Got so bad for me that I had to turn it off about an hour and half in, but felt sooooo goood. I have played and beaten every Resident Evil and Silent Hill game, and they don't phase me. So far this series is the only one to get me to the point of turning the game off in fear. Also the cinematography is the at a very high level.

Finally started playing this a couple of days ago. Good game. Spooky as all freakout.

Is the theme still just taking pictures of the ghosts? I liked the atmosphere of the first one, but the whole photography bit just fell flat for me.

Yes it does still revolve around taking pictures of ghost. I still have to finish this game, I'm on the last chapter, just havn't had to the time. I have dropped my controller a few times already while playing the game.

Me, too. I defy anyone to play this game alone, at night, with all the lights off and headphones on and claim they weren't scared as hell.

Haha, I do that all the time, but being scared is the best feeling. My dad knows when I'm playing the game and sometimes he sneaks into my room when I'm playing at night with the lights off and headphones on, and he scares the shit of me like grabing my shoulder.

Rented it, tried to enjoy it, wasnt able.

The combat system kills it for me completely. The concept is kind of cool, I suppose, but it just isnt a 'fun' way to fight. Eventually I started feeling like every enemy appearance was a chore, which sucked because the rest of the game is so good.
Up until about the 3rd enemy or so I was genuinely having a good, scary time. High production values with good cinemas, graphics, the "radio" was cool, and the whole twins angle was interesting (it got so when I had to split up and go off alone I really FELT alone).

With a more fun combat system, and maybe a faster running speed, this could have been a good diversion until Silent Hill 4.

But nope.
