Gamecube...Should I or Should I not?

Okay, here's the deal. I got about $250 for xmas. For a while I have been wanting a GCN, but whenever i have money i usually don't buy it for various reasons. However, the price drop with the Zelda disc is MIGHTY tempting, but im at a loss, cuz there are DVDs and Xbox/PC games to consider...help me please

Depends on what kinds of games you like. If you like awesome first party titles like Zelda, Metroid, and Mario Kart, plus great exclusives like Viewtiful Joe, go with the Gamecube. If you like lots of variety and exclusives like the GTA series, go with the PS2. If you want killer online play, plus sweet games like Crimson Skies and KOTOR, go with the XBOX.

Personally, I recommend the Gamecube, for the reasons listed above.

Gamecube games tend to have a lot of replay value, especially when it comes to playing with your friends. If that's your bag, then I would say go for it.

If not, get an Xbox.

It really is a great value, and you can find some very nice deals on used Gamecube games if you look around a bit. I vote yes.

We're lovin' our new GC, for what it's worth. My only complaint is that sports titles seem to be few and far between. I've been searching for Madden '04 high and low, but had to eventually settle on Prince of Persia. Not a bad compromise, but I just want my damn football!

For $99, it's a steal. Plus, if you like throwbacks like Zelda, Metroid, Kart, and lots of Mario, it's a no-brainer. My wife and I also love Mario Party 4 & 5, so that really helps (excellent party games).

I basically repeated what has already been said, but if you have been thinking about it, go for it. Worst case? Sell it on eBay if you aren't happy. You'll get most (if not all) of your money back...any mone you lose you can think of it as a renter's fee.

Matt, do you have NCAA 2003 or Madden 2003? If not, go to Sam's and pick them up for $12 each. Sam's has a bunch of games on sale right now (for all 3 systems)...

You can't beat the $100 price tag, and if you aren't to keen on the Zelda bonus disc you can make the GC cheaper by tossing it on Ebay were its still going for $35-$40 on average.

I can't say to get a GC to the exclusion of other systems, but for $99 bucks and a Zelda disk, I'd say buy it. (and Zelda: Wind Waker)

GC gets most of the games that other systems do, and has the second best graphics engine, plus their exclusives (like Metroid and Zelda) are really worth the money. (Zelda was Gamespot's game of the year, and IMO its better than Ocarina of Time; maybe as good as A Link to the Past) The only real drawback is no CD or DVD or online gaming. (at least for now)

I think Nintendo grossly underestimated how big of an impact dvd playability has now. While we here are generally on the cutting edge of gaming, there are tons of people who buy consoles as an entertainment system that plays games AND movies.

Sony and MS realize this and they've already said they are both throwing everything and the kitchen sink into their next consoles adding up to features out the ass. Nintendo has a few great games, but technology wise, they're on the wrong track and their bottom line is showing it. If they don't change their design philosophy, they're gonna pull a sega in the next round and revert to solely selling gameboys. And that's sad for a company that has basically raised a generation of kids like us.

Yeah, Nintendo has made some moves with their consoles that can only be described as "fucking retarded". I'm so surprised that the GBA has reverse compatability.

...Microsoft, too, has made some of the same boneheaded hardware moves. Exclusivity and a couple more features doesn't hold a candle to getting your games much later or not at all.
