So what about PS2 online?

i've never played anything online with PS2, as far as i know they don't have a network like XBOX. Does each game developer charge a separate fee, Or is it free to play online?

Everything except for RPG's are free. All EA titles, SOCOM, Tony Hawk, etc...Worth it in my opinion for SOCOM alone.

I just got a PS2 and a copy of SOCOM w/headset. Any would-be SEALs out there?

I also have ATV Off-Road Fury 2, which has online play as well. Anyone ever try that?

don't forget Resident Evil Online is coming real soon. not sure about the subscription details for that though...

With the PS2 online stuff, don't you have to pay a yearly subscription for the service, and then on top of that have to pay subscription fees for each game you are playing? Am I wrong about that?

Dead wrong. XBox you pay the subscription. PS2 no fees for most games.

PS2 = NO Fees on the 99% of the games people will be playing and as of yet the only game that I can recall that has a subscription fee is Everquest.

PS2 = Dedicated Servers, one of the most glaring problems with XBL is the fact that YOU are the server so YOU are doing the grunt work. Shitty connection all YOU, on the PS2 its being hosted. And while some XBL games are now supporting dedicated hosts you have to be lucky to land on one and even then its too few to make a significant dent.

But on the whole other then my beloved Socom, XBL trounces Sony in the online department... well if you aren't sporting a hard on for EA titles and Tony Hawk online that is.

Well, I have XBOX live, and the only game I've had to pay extra to play online was PSO. All the other ones I've been able to play online just by paying the yearly fee.

I think I read somewhere that EA and Microsoft had worked out whatever differences they had that kept the EA sports games from being online. Which would mean that the next round of EA sports games will feature online play, which will mean that microsoft might as well stop making their first-party sports games (NFL Fever, NBA Inside Drive, etc.) because EA is far superior. That's why MS wouldn't let EA onto XBOX live in the first place probably. They new that Madden would outsell Fever like nobody's business.

I've been playing NBA live online....
Since i never had any lag problems on XBOX live, who's to blame for the lag im experiencing with PS2 online? Me, the other guy, or the EA server?
That depends. It's probably a combination of your connection, the other people's connections, and the server. Just hunt around for better servers. I don't know about EA's sports games, but with SOCOM, I have NEVER had lag. Not once.

Sonofabiscuit... I've been trying to connect to a game in ATV Off-Road Fury 2 for TOO LONG now. I connected to the lobby and everything fine. Every game I pick, though, rejects me. When I host a game, no one joins. I refuse to believe that EVERYONE on there has a specific appointment to play with someone they know...

Has anyone played this online successfully?

We need people like Microsoft and Sega to keep making major sports titles.

I like EA's stuff, but fuck 'em... they've been getting FAR too lazy and sitting back knowing they have the name power and big franchises, especially with Madden.

Sega/ESPN came out with First-Person mode this year for their NFL football game. When was the last time Madden did something that bold? Hell, the game has only changed slightly since the 2001 version.

EA's pissing me off lately.
