Coming Soon: Spawn of Standridge 2

At last it can be told...

Mrs. Standridge and I are expecting our second spawn in June 2004. We waited until the end of the first trimester to start informing family and friends, b/c of a "false alarm" we had a little over a year ago (not false, just prematurely ended ). But everything looks to be set on "go" now, so as a Christmas present we told my parents about the impending birth. Best. Present. Ever.

So it looks like mid-June, which is right around my own birthday--I keep thinking how strange it would be to have a son or daughter with the same b-day as mine. But what are the chances, right?

Anyway, now everyone can know. Another Standridge will soon walk the earth!

Well, it's the first part of the equation that would be cool to "catch".

Heh...

Congrats, Scott. And best wishes to all 4 of you.

Great news, Scott. Yours is about a month ahead of mine, which means you get first dibs on baby shower gifts.

Damn you, Standridge!

Yes, but what if they have MY looks and HER brains? Well, then they'd still be pretty smart, just a lot homelier. So I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Thanks for the good wishes, everyone. And congrats to Gio Angles as well! We're building a new generation of Chewers! Today the boards, TOMORROW THE WORLD!

Congratulations to you and your family!

It could happen! My step-daughter was born the same day as her mother. I was close, but missed my own mother's birthday by several hours. We'll keep our digits crossed for you. Good luck!

The Unholy Prophecy is coming true. I never thought I would live to see the day when the birth of Lucifer would be upon my very waking eyes, but yay, 'tis the fate of the universe. First a new Nunziata, now a new Standridge.

The world can still be saved. Your children can still be saved, people. If the Butanes come upon the family way, the world as we know it will cease.

Oh, and congrats Scott!

Nice shooting Scott! My only request, name it Ho-Ju.

Cool! Please don't name it Espn.

Congratulations Scott and Gio!

Rory is the name of choice for children (boys or girls) of aristocratic Southerners who are in the know. Feel free to use it.

Part of this is just a selfish bump, and the other part is that I thought this would be the best currently active thread in which for me to record my 2000th post.

Yea me! 2000 posts and 2 babies! Woohoo!

Congratulations and a healthy buoyant time of it to your and your fam!

Congrats Scott. I've been off the boards for a few weeks due to the holidays, so I've just noticed this.

This begs the question... What has "Village of the Damned" taught us and how can we use this knowledge to save us?
Because it's only natural that if not by your satanic alien DNA, it's by your love of the classics that no doubt has saturated your better half's womb to produce hyper intelligent offspring that would want nothing more than to dominate our wills and feast on our flesh.

Good luck Scott. I hope all goes well and aside from the flesh eating, I hope it's a healthy and happy devil baby.

Quick update (does this count as shameless self-promotion?): a couple of weeks ago we heard the baby's heartbeat. Only one (I was teasing the wife that it would be a multiple birth) from what we can hear. Since then she's also started to feel kicks, though I've been unable to detect any as of yet. Years of guitar playing have left the fingers hopelessly calloused.

I'm still moved to goosebumps by the signs of the baby developing, the whole weirdness of there having not been a little person there just a few months ago, and now there is. I know the science and all, but it still reeks of black magic to me.

What do you think of the name "Homonculus"?

Right now we're weighing whether or not to have an ultrasound. The wife has turned up several studies about why ultrasounds should only be used for medical reasons, not curiosity. Personally I'd always taken it as a given, but we're doing our homework. We're also considering a midwifed home birth, which I admit is a little scary to me.

But the wife's a bit of a hippy that way--I can't say anything though, since she had our son William completely naturally without one drop of drugs. A girl with that pain tolerance is damn-nigh unstoppable. So I'll just cower in the corner and mutter "Yes, Dear."

You could call it Roger instead...even if it's a girl.

Anyway, only just spotted this thread, so add my congratulations to the pile.

Homonculus is nice... I like it.. it's a keeper. Renfield already taken?

No drugs and a home birf?!? She's an astounding she-creature!

Are you going to get a Gypsy midwife? A real old one with a real heavy accent and lots and lots of charms and jewelry?

That would be cool.

"Silence!" she'll demand, "the time draws near. The hour of the wolf approaches."

A wolf howl echoes from the darkness of the mountain forest. It was the Thing that had been stalking them. The Thing that savagly killed Ranger Bob.

Relentless winds pound the thick glass of the cabin.

"The charms can only protect for a short while. Mr. Standridge, do you still have your rifle." the old crone asks. Her voice soft but urgent.

Scott Standridge stands frozen. His mind is racing. He knew he had to face the creature, face it alone, and time was running out. But was it safe to leave his beloved wife here alone with this strange woman? He cursed himself for getting her into this.

"Answer me, " the Gypsy screeched, "we have no time!"

"Scott please!" His wife pleaded. The contractions were coming harder and faster. Scott's heart nearly burst, it was torture to see her in such pain.

"I still have it!" He finally muttered.

"And the silver bullets?" the Gypsy continued.

"Yes, yes I have the goddamn silver bullets too!" He shot back.

The old woman nodded. The answer appeased her. She turned back to his wife and her black robes swept over the bed. Scott was immediately reminded of a crow. An ancient black crow looming over his wife, ready to snatch up his child as he came out.

"Have no fear. I will tend to your wife and child and keep them safe from harm. Now go my son. Go do the thing you know must be done." As she said this, calmly and confidentially it seemed to Scott that she shrank in size and was nothing more than a gentle old woman. The thought of his wife being in her gnarled but wise hands gave him strength. He took up his rifle and turned to the door.

"The boy," he said without turning around, "name it Talbot, after my grandfather."

See how much fun that would be?

Edited cause I thought of a better ending.
