William Shatner has recorded a new album featuring a guest appearance by US punk legend Henry Rollins.

Shatner, who played Captain James T Kirk in the original TV series of Star Trek, has also enlisted Joe Jackson and US country star Brad Paisley to guest on the album.

The album will be produced by Ben Folds, leader of the Ben Folds Five, reports the New York Post.

Shatner is generally acknowledged as having recorded the worst ever version of a Beatles' song.

He released his spoken word cover of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds in 1968.

His renditions of the Best Song nominees at the MTV Movie Awards in the early 90s were excellent. "I want to sex you, I want to sex you up."

Rollins and Kirk?

Does life get any better?

I submit that it does not!

He's no David Hassellhoff.

Shatner's antics make me want to swear off irony entirely.

Oh God yes! Yes!

I propose that everyone attempt to speak like Shatner for the release of this album.

It ...could be fun, you see? Or ...not.

Was it on Conan O'Brian when Shater said that his delivery originally came from him trying to remember his lines mid-performance?

Oh, fuck me. Double post.

Didn't he release a movie filmed entirely in Esperanto?

I can't quite remember.

'Lucy in the sky with Diamonds' is indeed awful. What is very much quite possibly worse though is 'Rocket Man'. Knowing he performed it live makes it a little funnier as well.

"I'm a ROCK - IT MAN!"

I highly recommend you folks check out some of these reviews for SPACED OUT, the compilation album of Shatner and Leonard Nimoy singing music wretchedly. One reviewer said that it is good music to play when someone you don't like is at your house, as it will make them leave quickly. Another person said that Shatner's hollering in his rendition of "Mr. Tambourine Man" is like some crazed lunatic trapped in the basement of your house trying to escape.

The fact that they did this makes the world a better place.

Nimoy's "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" is a guilty pleasue, while The Shat's version of "Rocket Man" was wonderfully immortalized/spoofed on Family Guy by Stewie.

I just want to hear Rollins yell KHAAAAAN!!

I remember watching a Howard Stern episode and he played Mr. Tamborine Man with Shatner sitting right there.

It was too funny

Dude...

The video for The Ballad of Bilbo Bagins is creepy. A bunch of girls in multi colored sweaters dancing...really weird.

And there are moments in it where you just feel that something wrong and evil was going on between the girls and Nimoy.

Fun video to show to friends, though.

Nimoy's creepy!

That is a scary video...

Isn't Shatner tone deaf? I recall reading that somewhere.

Can I hire your encyclopedic knowledge for the local pub quiz competition Dre?

There's a twenty pound prize on offer you see.

He also filmed a movie entirely in redneck in 1977 called Kingdom of Spiders. And it's on DVD.

He needs a new album STAT!

Awww this bump got me so excited for something that isn't real.

Well then gentleman allow me to make your day:

I love the fact that both Shatner records are worth owning. The Transformed Man is a kitsch classic and Has Been is genuinely good (check out this track if you don't believe me). Part of what made those records work is that they were made unironically, but with this new one he seems to finally be jumping into knowing self parody. That's sort of a shame, but it'll probably be fun anyway.

The Ben Folds penned songs are indeed great.

The Shatner cover version of Cee-los Fuck You is pretty damn good. Much better than the original.
