PS1 Games on PS2

YES, I know you can play PS1 games on the PS2 system, but that's not the point of this thread.

Sometime back when PS2 debuted, I came across an article in a video game magazine about the quality of PS1 games not being significantly higher when being played on the PS2 (in terms of loading times and graphics).

The questions I wanted to ask all of you that have played your PS1 games on your PS2 systems are:

- Do the PS1 games load faster on PS2?
- Is there any increase in video and/or audio quality at all?
- Any increased performance during actual gameplay?
- Which PS1 games I should buy if I have a PS2?

Any responses would be nice. Thanks.

There is an option in the PS2 browser to speed up loading and smooth textures for PS1 games; I think these create moderate improvements in loading times and visual quality, but I've never done a direct comparison. The few PS1 games I've played on it still looked undeniably like PS1 games. Suggestions? I'll get the big ones out of the way.. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid.

Get the original Medal of Honor as well. Still the best one in the series.

I never bought a PS1, so I don't know if they look better or not - I'd say not, just because it's the same software, but maybe the video card or whatever interprets them better.

Ape Escape, Colony Wars, Vagrant Story

All super-cool games... and AE and CW make better use of the Dual Shock than any other games I've played.

I have Driver for the ps1. it works horribly on the Ps2. (as in.. it doesnt work 80% of the time).

I have played at least half of my PS1 games on the PS2, including some I bought after the PS2 came out and have ONLY used on that system.

The great thing is that a lot of games I used to play like Final Fantasy and Ogre Battle, etc. were re-released from the SNES version, allowing me to play old faves on the new machine.

Been playing through FF Origins lately, and it features a retooled version of the original game, graphics-wise, as well as the "real" FF2, something never before available in the US. The FF2 we got back in the SNES days was really Japan's FFIV (I think?).

Yup, our FF2 was the Japanese FFIV. Origins was a great buy, retailing at something between 20-30 bucks. They've updated some of the gameplay of I and II as well, making it much better than the original NES version, even before the upgraded graphics.
