Yup. As long as this is legit....

I'm going to need some time off from work when this hits.

Is this a case of life imitating art, from April when Shacknews.com posted their GTA: Sin City April Fools gag? Or just bullshit?

I'd bet money on some overeager/"funny" Amazon employee being responsible for the title rather than Rockstar, but either way, I need more GTA.

If one of the missions is that you have to take someone's body out to the desert to bury it, BEST GAME EVER.

Seriously, this is gonna kick ass for the inevitable Casino references alone.
I really hope they map out the city like they did for Miami in "Vice City".

Stupid firewall. What's the story say? The new GTA is Vegas inspired I gather, but does it give release date or any decent info? I want a new GTA more than a new Halo.

January 05, 2004 - It's not uncommon to find listings for unannounced games on retailers' lists. Because they have to update databases and prepare for the launch of a game, retailers are often privy to release information earlier than even much of the press. Such is the case with the next game in the Grand Theft Auto series, Sin City.

Rumored for months to be either Sin City or San Andreas, it looks like Vegas won out. A search for Sin City on Amazon's UK site will pull up a page for Grand Theft Auto IV: Sin City, scheduled for release on November 4, 2004 in Europe. The console of choice listed is not surprisingly the PlayStation 2, but with last year's release of the Double Pack, an Xbox port is not out of the question.
We know absolutely nothing about the game outside of the title's implication that the game will take place in Las Vegas-like city - perfect, considering the theme and tone of the previous games. We can only assume that Sin City will use a modified GTA 3 graphics engine, and that the game will be a small evolution for the series as opposed to a revolution.

We attempted to contact Rockstar Games to get an official comment, but the company had nothing to say, not even a "no comment."

We'll have more on Sin City as it happens.

We'll see how it plays out. I'm not holding my breath.

I've hoped since the beginning they'd do this. The Vegas levels in Driver 2 were the best part of that game, and they barely had enough landmarks so that you could actually tell where you were. It shouldn't be that hard to recreate the strip and the surrounding area, and that would be a sweet background for the story.

One of the main things that bothers me is what are they going to do with the music? So much enjoyment from VC was from tearing down the street while listening to 'Rock Box' or 'Cars'. I wonder if this will be set in the 70's? So many questions and yet no answers.
I think they should just call it Grand Theft Auto 4.
I think Vice City was the 4th one.

Vice City was technically not 4, it was kind of an addition to 3. They did the same thing with the British add-on to GTA 2.

I personally would like to see the game set in old Vegas - like the ealry '60s, when the Michael Mann TV show Crime Story was set.

But I imagine dating the game that much might make it hard to market the game to a younger audience, if it was filled with songs from the sixties.

The estates of the Rat Pack members are drooling in anticipation of all the fat licensing cash they're going to get from Rockstar for this game.
Not so sure about the authenticity of this.. besides this being an April Fool's story last year, I don't think Rockstar was planning on bestowing "GTA4" status on the next PS2 iteration. Granted, it could be partially true, and a Vegas-themed GTA is a no-brainer, but I'm skeptical.
I thought Rockstar abandoned the numbering idea entirely. I think I read that in a recent issue of EGM.
Amazon UK has already changed it to Grand Theft Auto - The Next Chapter with a release date of 12/31/2004. They move quick.
They're really going to have to put something special together in order to top the last soundtrack. And the game, for that matter.

I have faith though. Can't wait for this....just hope the xbox version hits somewhere close to the PS2 one....i'd rather pick it up for that.

If this is Rat Pack era Vegas....holy shit. That'll be fucking incredible.

Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin on the soundtrack. Wow, that'd be damn cool.
They couldn't though. No car radios back then.

One thing is painfully clear above all: Rusty Brown's Ring Donuts will be munched. Vigorously.

More possible rumors, but http://www.mtavc.com/ claims that they have recieved word from Rockstar that the title does not include "Sin City".
I know for a fact that some kind of multiplayer GTA is in the works. Whether this will be a component of the next game or an entirely separate project, I'm not sure. I imagine it will be similar to a realtime strategy, where 4 or more people compete to build a bigger crime empire.

Yeah, it's a hoax. Damn.
Figures. I'm still going to need some time off whenever it hits. I just hope it's as good as Vice City.
This game better have Pink Cadillacs in it.
Actually, word is that the next GTA game will not be GTA IV, but will instead use a subtitle, ala "Vice City".

Apparently, GTA IV is pegged as one of the launch titles for the eventual PS3, and will use an updated engine instead of the same ole GTA III/Vice City engine (which, frankly, after two long epic games is becoming rather stale).

I think I'll sit out the next release and wait for the PS3 version.
You'll buy it and you know it.
Seriously, I probably won't. I really started to get bored of Vice City towards the end. It's not a sequel to GTA III... it's more like an expansion. The engine is now VERY dated in relation to most other next-gen game out there.

Don't get me wrong, these games are still a blast. But I'm done with them, for now. When they finally update the game (with PS3) I'll jump back in. Until then, there will be PLENTY of solid games to keep me busy.

What if it's Grand Theft Auto: Coruscant?

Come on, you know you'll play it....
I always secretly hoped they would make a new game that returns to the futuristic world of GTA 2.

Like 3 and Vice City it will make it to the XBox...eventually. The exclusive agreement for Sony will insure that the wait to see it on another console will be intolerable for mortal gamers.

I think it should be Grand Theft Autobots. That would be groovy.

GTA3 - Jacking a hot rod.

GTAB - Jacking Hot Rod.

I'm really getting sick of everything going multiplayer. I'm closer to 30 than 20, my friends don't play games (and if they do, they suck), and I have a shitty dial up connection at home so no online play for me.

Agreed. A solid, challenging, single-player game, with a great plot and well-placed cutscenes, beats trying to take down Timmy in Cleveland any fucking day. I mean, I like Deathmatches and Co-Op Team play as much as anyone, but they just get old. I prefer seeing what surprises the professional writers and designers have for me than some teenager in Paducah.
Yeah, that's a bandwagon I'll jump on. Not a big fan of the new "Multiplayer is most important!" trend.
Also GTA do not seem like a multiplayer type game. The problem is there would be more players then npc civillians. And I don't think it would be call GTA 4. I rember an article that Rockstar idea of GTA4 is would have a brand new engine different from GTA 3, and be on the next gen systems.

Absolutely agree. Multiplayer is not needed in a GTA world, the fun of those games comes from discovering what they've done with the computer controlled characters and AI. Liberty City is only big enough for one troublemaker, and that's me.

even Resident Evil (my favorite game series) is going multiplayer soon... and I'm not sure how to take it.
GTA: Sin City - It had better have a Red Shark.

GTA: Coruscant - I've been preaching a jet pack-inclusive GTA 2199 since before Vice City was out.

GTA: Multiplayer - Regardless of other multiplay modes, Rockstar had better copy the crash mode from Burnout 2 for the next chapter of GTA.

Well, I read in the new EGM about Eminem and 50 Cent possibly playing themselves. Although, I'm not the biggest fan of hip-hop on earth, I wouldn't mind this. It would sort of rule out the whole set-in-another-era-thing. Of course it was in a rumor column.

I think, since they spend the money on the professional talent, they should go one further and make the in game models sort of resemble the actors themselves.

I also think that it's been a year and half since the last game, which is going to be two years when the new one is released. The fact that Rockstar has not released even one word on this new game kind of scares me. I mean, using the old engine, the story and little details for the next one better fucking blow me away or else I know I, and a lot of other people, are going to be extremely dissapointed.

I got a weary eye on this game until I see something that proves otherwise.
There's a story on Slashdot now indicating that Rockstar has trademarked "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas". So, make of that what you will.
Why don't they ever bring back the fart/burp function from the first GTA? That was great running up to people on foot and pressing the "honk horn" button.
Also have funny reactions from the people each time you burp or fart.
