Is It Snowing Where You Are?

I took these pictures today. Most people weren't at school or work. As usual in Seattle, people get terribly excited about the snow. It was quite nice and powdery, and in the 20ºf range all day.

Here's some "Heavenly Bamboo", as it is known:

A pine tree in our front yard:

The street in front of our house, with neighbors on cross-country skis:

Another view of the neighborhood, looking down a steep hill that would have been great for sledding if not for the parked cars:

We got a lot down here in Eastern Washington. Just got the snow storm today and it's still doing it right now.

I miss snow sometimes. Heh...never thought I'd hear myself say that one after being buried under that shit for 8 months out of the year for much of my life. It is pushing 10 years since I've seen it last though.

I'll bet it's a lot colder east of the Cascades where you are, and the snow will probably last longer.
Nope. No snow here. Im so jealous of you.

Eight months! Where did you live?
I can imagine that you would miss snow if you don't get it now, because it's nice sometimes to see the change it brings.

It's real purdy
Perhaps you won't be envious if I post the yucky pictures tomorrow of when it all melts.

Those are some nice pictures.

There's no snow here, but it's recently gotten colder than a witch's tit in the metro Atlanta area. According to Weather.com, it's currently 27 degrees.
Holy shit T Mike, I keep forgetting you live in Richland too.

Well I was born in Northern Minnesota (aka The Land of Eternal Frost) but I grew up in upstate New York. I knows my snow!

Funny thing is that I've become so acclimated over the years that the 40 degrees outside right now feels like Arctic Death. We start busting out the heavy winter gear at 59.

The wonder that is lake effect snow has taken hold here in New York State. Surprisingly enough, Buffalo and the Upstate area are getting pelted, while we Rochesterians in the middle are getting squat. Odd, but that's how lake effect works. (I suppose I'll miss it a little when I move to the Southeast, but that's it...)

Beautiful pictures, Anne, by the way.

It takes a few years of "HA! I can't believe it's snowing somewhere else in the world right now" (while you run around in shorts) and torturing the friends and family you left behind in the winter wasteland with "Wow! Is it really -14 there? It's 80 here...I'm off to lounge by the pool now." before you really start to miss it.
I like your pictures, Anne. I took a few myself, mostly because it was funny to see my dogs with snow up to their shoulders bouncing around outside. Here in Puyallup it snowed a good deal for the entire morning and some early afternoon, but now it's drizzly and just kinda blah. I was supposed to start school on Monday, but it's been cancelled for the last two days, and I'm kind of hoping to get one more day out of this storm. Some have already cancelled for tomorrow, but my college seems to wait as long as possible before committing. It was fun while it lasted, though (but I only say that because I didn't have to drive anywhere). Thanks for posting pictures!
It was 74 degrees here on Monday. Yesterday it was 29. According to my Weatherbug, it's 17 right now. But of course, no snow. Crazy Alabama weather.

Oh, I'm sure... but to tell you the truth, Christmas week without snow would just feel completely and totally odd to me. (The other 51 weeks of the year, I'll take ANYTHING else than the usual winter wonderland this area is.)

I understand that completely. Christmastime is when I tend to miss it the most. I still haven't quite gotten used to that.

It would be really nice if it would snow once a year just so I could see it. There's nothing quite as tranquil and beautiful as falling snow. Of course this is as long as I don't have to drive anywhere (these people can't even drive in the damn rain...(hell, they can't drive on dry pavement) let alone snow) and that somehow not only would it snow while remaining above 70 degrees, but the snow would actually be warm. It could happen!!
Nope, no snow, even though technically it is cold enough here.

And that, my friends and neighbors, is why I live in Texas.

I hate the cold, and I abhor snow.
It's 20 degrees where I am, but no snow. And i'd like it to stay that way.
7 degrees when I left to go to work this morning.
Addix, what state are you in now? Sounds like FL (except for the people who can't drive in rain. I thought they were all from NC.)

In the 9 years I've lived in Raleigh, we average about 1 - 3 decent snows per year. By decent, I mean you can make a snowman and/or go sleigh riding. And we usually get at least one shitty ice storm. But everything closes down for either one, so that's nice. I'm beginning to enjoy the mass hysteria leading up to the storms now. Everyone running around like Chicken Little, and the local news people saying things like "Now is the time for panic! Buy all the milk, eggs, and bread you can!"
It is certainly cold enough, but sadly no. I love the white stuff.

"This is pure snow! Do you have any idea what the street value of this mountain is?"

I live in San Antonio, Texas now...land of mild to warm winters (usually) and "melt the flesh right off your bones while you baste in a pool of your own sweat because of the 97% humidity" summers.

Kitty, doesn't it still snow once in a while up in Dallas?
Clevelands got a nice blanket of snow but if I could just get the wind to die down it would be decent enough to go outside. Right now the temp hovers around -15 with the windchill. So I'll stay inside and on CHUD for now
post #24 of 67
I hate the cold myself, but I wouldn't mind a nice snow like in Anne's posted pics. Sure looks like it would be fun for about 2 hours. After which, I would of course I would expect the weather to be back in the balmy 70s.

In all my years of living in Houston, I have seen it "snow" here only twice. Both times it was more like a flurry storm, than a snow storm.

The last time it "snowed" here (it was a light dusting) was in 1985....and they are still fucking talking about it.

I know what you mean. Heaven forbid it be cold outside and frost is on people's cars in the morning. I had one lady in the office tell me she had to use an ice scapper on her windowshield. Silly southerners.
It snows here (actually more of a uniform icing) maybe twice a year. I lived in Poughkeepsie, New York for a few years as a child so I know what real snow looks like.

I hate it. I also hate temperatures below fifty.

I like nice, warm, humid, tropical temperatures.

I loves me some snow baby!

It was snowing today, but it's not as bad as it was 3 years ago.

in 2000/2001 there was approximately 8 feet of snow on the sides of my driveway. That winter was hell. It was a major snowstorm EVERY week. Sometimes twice. It was like the world said "Here newfoundland, have all my snow, no one else needs it!" It almost came up to the second floor windows of my house.

There's none this year though... havn't even had to break out the snowblower.
There's quite a bit of "snow" where I'm at, yes.

By the looks of your location, I would hope so. I don't think you have much choice in the matter.

That reminds me of the last year I lived in New York. We had an all out blizzard...get this...in the middle of frickin' APRIL! The whole bit...state of emergency, frozen pipes, no electricity, feet and feet of snow. You know how you can normally at least see a hump where your car is buried? Yeah...no lump. I had to literally poke around with a shovel to find my car, then spend the next 3 hours digging it out. I knew then that my decision to migrate south was the right choice.

Nice pictures, especially the first one.

In response to your question, though... no, I wouldn't say it's snowing, so much as I'd say the Evil Ice God of Hell decided to besiege my fair city. I hate winter.

Is it snowing where I am? Fuck if I know. I can't see past Jessica Alba's tits on top of me to see out the window.

Unless you mean the other snow. If that's the case, fuckin' A.

I know snow is pretty. 13 years of living in Montreal showed me more then enough snow. I miss it living here in Asheville and in Greensboro.

Three Northwest Chewers appeared! I enjoy reading all you posts. Most of you including DJ, are more familiar with snow than I am.

It looked pretty sad today, with the rain, and it made the powder snow heavy and wet, so I tried to make a snow lady:

Michael, I think you may need some "help." I'll be your buddy if you need some help beating your "problem."

now is the time for panic

It's officially snowing here (Raleigh) now. According to the news, we could get as much as "a light dusting". Needless to say, schools are all canceled and the office is 2/3 empty.

As usual, I'll pretend to be all freaked out so I can go home early too. If only I had Alba's breasts to keep me warm...

How are things in your neck of the woods?

SNowing here. Two inches so far adn supposed to snow til this afternoon. Working from home for a while.

Ditto. Christmas just doesn't feel like Christmas without it. We haven't had that much, and though it's snowing right now and it looks pretty and all - Christmas is over. I would love to be able to spend just one Christmas Eve in Vermont and take a real sleigh ride. I think it would be pretty neat. Yes, you can do that here in Illinois, but it's just not the same.

Thanks, Brian! Next time, you and I should do a series of figures out of snow in the park and leave people to wonder what they mean, and you could photograph them.
We are lucky in Montreal, it snowed for 3 inches only.

But, we have a little bit of a cold weather , It is -29 degrees(-38 with windchill). For the day it goes higher -20(-29 wc).

You know what! I like this kind of weather( for a few days), It makes me appreciate the nice days. I like it better when it is -10, we can go skiing (1/2 hour drive to the slope) and skating on the river (5 minutes from my home).

Buttttttttt I still love going to Florida, now that our money is getting stronger, i will be able to go back.
It's about 70 here right now...
Portland, Oregon here. Maybe by tomorrow, we'll be able to dig the truck out of the ice and drive. You know, to continue with life. I haven't had to go to work since Tuesday due to this damn ice (2-inches covering 6-inches of snow). Unbelievable shit.

Here's a pic of our buddha. We felt that due to his high amount of bodyfat, he'll be quite insulated from the cold.

And here's the "glassy" effect of the ice, causing the yards in the neighborhood to resemble ice rinks.

Smugbug, Portland has such benign weather most of the time, but you get in the path of that cold air stream I read about. You get those weird forms of ice, like ice storms that cover everything, and what you showed above, which I have never seen. The buddah picture looks a little surreal, like the figure is swimming through the snow. Poor rhododendron, I hope it survives.
Anne, it's a cold air stream that rips from Hood River (in the east) and through a "funnel" that then covers Portland and Vancouver. Wild.

For once, it was the downtown metro area that was hit hard; not the outlying areas. Oh, they were fine after Thursday A.M., it was above freezing by that time. BUT not around us. We finally hit above freezing yesterday (Friday); which was 34-degrees, but the melting has been s.l.o.w. Very slow.

Now, it's the melting slush to deal with. As for that rhododendron? Oh, it'll be fine. That plant will survive a nuclear holocaust - trust me

YAY! SNOW!
I had a snow day today!
Snow!! We got almost 8 inches dumped on us yesterday and it's starting to rain.

Pretty stuff to look at but hell to shovel
post #50 of 67
We got dusted a little, roads are pretty much clear but if the temp keeps dropping we will probably be iced over by tomorrow.
