I usually don't post in reply to things about trolls, but I just want to put my two cents in and then gracefully bow out of the discussion.
When Nick first posted this thread, the only thing he said was, "Ignore them, and they'll go away." We should do that. The only reason they come back is cause they're able to get under our skin. We show them that every time we reply to them. It's very childish behavior, but it happens nonetheless. If we reall did ignore them, they would eventually get bored and it wouldn't be fun for them anymore. Thus, they leave.
Whenever we reply and start and argument with them, we're giving them exactly what they want. We've all seen where replying to them gets us, and that's what clutters up the boards. So, my advice (though admittedly, no one asked for it and perhaps doesn't want it) would be to just resist the urge to give them a response, no matter how much you want to. If you see a thread and you read it and can tell right away that it's a troll, don't respond. If they start to try to de-rail a thread, just ignore their comments and carry on with the conversation as if they never posted. If we don't, they're just going to keep on going as long as we're still giving them the satisfaction of having gotten on our nerves.
That's all I have to say. I'm done.
