When I registered here, I was never accused of being a troll. I think it's because I didn't come in with my head up my ass and make posts that were obviously meant to just stir shit up and cause flame wars.

So, if you're a newbie and you don't want to be called a troll, don't be a jack-ass. It's really simple.

You know, if you could convert the raw mania of posts like this into energy you could power entire cities. Its almost...purity,with absolutely no buffers in place between thught and words. I'm fucking SICK seeing a new thread about Christian Brando every time I enter the GOSSIP forum.

Agreed with moovyphreak, to a degree. Her brand of trolling is somewhat different and amusing to its own way. However, I keep expecting for her to open a new topic saying that she's got Brando in her basement (he's soooo pretty!!! and innocent!!!!) and she wants to know the best way to freeze-dry and mount him on her living room wall.

Also, the tag-team of Donkinator and Roundhouse should be banned, or at least contained somehow. The former has managed to embarass himself in no less than three threads over the past couple days.

Roundhouse and Donkinator. I'm becoming convinced they attend the same Junior High School. Hell, they may occupy the same head.

On a related note... isn't there any way to prevent new members from creating new threads? Sure, I know, that punishes the new people who come aboard who are perfectly fine, upstanding members of the internet community. But it seems that a great deal of the trolling problem centers around these pointless juvenile threads that crowd the main forum.

I usually don't care about trolls, but all these new members are getting on my fucking nerves. Everytime I read some lame-ass post and look at the left I read "Mar 2004" or "Apr 2004". Some of the new members are really pathetic and are just posting plain shit. The lastest guys were the two already mentioned in the previous post.

I agree with the idea of there being a minimum amount of time before you can create new threads after becoming a member.

While that would be a good prevention, these trolls would more than likely just post random shit until they reached the point at which they could start their own new threads. Unless Nick sets it to a minimum of 500 posts or something. Then, they would really have to work for their abuse of these boards.

Time limit, not post limit, that way spamming would hold no advantage for them.

Ignore the morons. Ban the troublemakers. Problems solved. There's no need to turn this ridiculous shit into some kind of jihad against anybody with a post count under 500.

You know, it'd be cool to only allow usernames after a certain time limit too. It'd be like a giant pool of faceless posters learning how to not fall out of line, and only the ones that can endure the time limit without upsetting us can rise from the ranks and become someone with an identity.

There was a reason I added that little caviat... so that, you know, people wouldn't accuse me of calling all new posters trolls. Oh well.

Now let's be reasonable here. Who said jihad? All I proposed was some limit (post count, but time limit would work as well) before a user can start creating new threads, perhaps on all forums, perhaps just on the main board.

Maybe that's too restrictive, I dunno. It was a suggestion, not a decree from heaven, so it's certainly open to criticism and refinement. But I will say this... I've been on these boards for almost a year now, I have a post count of... lessee... 608 at this particular moment. That's a newbie compared to the more respected Chewers. I've created, in that time, precisely 2 threads, and neither on the main board. Why? Because, to be honest, there isn't much I care to say that couldn't be said in a thread someone else already made. So I, personally, wouldn't feel very limitted by having to wait awhile to create new threads.

Perhaps other Chewers would feel differently.

Yeah, I get that, but my point is that trolls WANT to stir up trouble. They want to fuck up the message board and watch everyone run around quacking with their panties in a twist. They want us to impose more silly laws and regulations, because they think that's funny. And hell, sometimes it is.

If you ignore the dipshits and they don't get the attention they're looking for, sooner or later they'll leave, or get banned by a moderator, or whatever. But changing the whole message board just because everyone is so damn scared of those scary trolls is insane. That's high comedy for them. That's exactly what they want.

And I'm not singling you out here, Sphinx...there's just a general feeling of paranoia that's been present here for a while now. Let's make people pay to post! Let's ban certain email accounts! Let's spy on the trolls to make sure we know what they're doing at all times! Let's instantly accuse every newbie of being a bad guy! It's insane. And yeah, most of the newbies who have joined recently have been acting like shitfaced retards, but man...considering the reception they get, can you really blame them?

I dunno. This place is seeming more and more like a bad Fox soap opera lately. The only people who should be wringing their hands about this shit are the people who are directly affected...the guys that own these websites, or the guys that work for these websites. You, me, us guys who just hang out here to shoot the shit and have fun....it really doesn't affect us. At all.

Perspective. Everybody needs to get some perspective.

All you are going to do by imposing something like that is piss off genuine posters and give the trolls more of the "We are saving you" ammo they want.

The sad fact is that there are people out there that take pleasure in trolling and will find ways to curcumvent any measures put in place.

But if you ignore them and ban them eventually they will get bord, or the site they come from will fall apart. It happened with the Facer and it will happen with SP and whatever comes next.

I sure am glad you are not going to ague with anyone.

Matt isn't a "right" version of Dev. Devin at least argues the subject matter, and posts on topic the vast majority of the time. For the last two months all Matt does is show up and insult his pea-brained idea of "evil liberals".

Devin contributes to the site, covers events, does interviews, writes columns. He's cut a little slack by the man that owns the fucking website.

Matt contributes nothing but bile.
