Not advisable if you've not already played the orginal Metal Gear Solid or you want to wait to see the cutscenes yourself. However, here's a new trailer for MGS: TS that clocks in at a total of 27 minutes. It's a showcase of all the new directed cutscenes from the Versus director.

Things to note:

- Solid Snake was always cool. Now he's completely badass in this production. Although it seems that he flips around way too much.

- Cyborg Ninja. Your jaw will drop at some of the stuff he does.

- The final few minutes showcase a fight between Liquid and Solid that's top notch. Plus, there's something that'll make you laugh.

- Mario and Yoshi. Look for 'em.

Otherwise, pretty cool. Now for some gameplay footage.

Yeah I saw this about an hour ago. The animation for those fight scenes are godly. The cinematic presentation in this game is the best ever for a game. And damn those moves look cool.

I'll certainly be picking this up when it comes out even though I played through it back when.

That was something else.

I'm about 11:00 into it, when do Mario and Yoshi show up?

Damn, thought they'd be harder to find than that.

Also, why doesn't Konami do us a favor and get the actualy Snake Plisskin to do the voice? Talk about a treat.

Lastly, Cyborg Ninja is the coolest fucking character ever. Hopefully you can unlock him/her to play as, cause that would be badass.

Because David Hayter does a wonderful job doing the voice as is. Well, at least IMO.

Mario and Yoshi are present in the Ninja/Solid Snake fight scene in the office with Otacon. Can't miss it.

Yes David Hayter hits the voice out of the park.

Not bad for a script writer...

Hell yeah! That looks fuckin' awesome. Love to see that the typical MGS humor is there (Ocelot dropping his gun: priceless). Liked that they put a Zone of the Enders poster during the Otacon encounter scene. Loved the fuck out of the trailer, game looks golden. March 1st, get here soon please.

If they're going to re-vamp something, how about re-vamping the section of the storyline when Kojima goes all "deep". Seriously, with both MGSes, most of the game is so good, and then around the end the storyline goes totally unintelligible with hints of dumb and preachy, layered with pretentious.

When Kojima tries to tie the game up and write "mindblowing/mindbending", it comes out in a soupy mixture that doesn't really end up in the "real world". (which sucks, since the game's strengths lie in it's manipulations and themes on that; closure would be nice)

Who knows, maybe he just likes using the story structure of the Strawberry Alarm Clock. (which was actually much more coherant)

Uh, I can understand (though disagree) with this criticism directed toward Metal Gear Solid 2, but if you thought the ending of the first one was unintelligible, the problem lies with you, it's pretty straightforward.

Well both are clearly, Japanese stories in all honesty.

Actually more like Japanese anime stories. Which to a certain degree makes sense. Didn't bother me though.

Heck I wasn't bothered at all by the entire MSG2 storyline...

I also liked the absurd MGS2 plot. Maybe confusing but still enthralling. It's just too bad that some of the questions brought up in the sequel won't be answered in MGS3. Or at least I think they won't be.

Anyway, how about that part with Snake throwing the grenade in the tank?

Yes, MGS1's ending is easy to follow. What it suffers from, is (albeit much lessend) similar attempts at making "revelations".

You seriously didn't care when the story switched from being a solid espionage thriller set on a platform in New York harbor, to "what is reality? Here's my opinion!; BTW, fuck resolving the story."?

Great. This is awesome news. Basically, if I ever want to make a video game, and I get writer's block/accidentally take 10 window-panes of LSD-25 towards the end of development, I can just end it with a voice over and random pictures that I took on my vacation to New York:

*Our hero has just detonated the plastique that he set in the power plant of the stolen russian nuke sub hidden in the Arctic Ice flows between Russia and the U.S.; he sees the tiny green indicator light on his sattelite phone blinking...*

"Dive team, this is home front. We just had reports of an explosion near your last position. Please confirm your status."

"Home front, this is team leader. Detonation of device confirmed. I have three wounded in a IBS roughly eight miles due east of my current position. Ready for pickup."

"Dive team, the President just called, and he wanted you to know that not only are you not real, but you are a figment of someone's imagination, conjured up in an attempt to take his mind off the extremely painful bowel movement he's currently undergoing. But then, what is a bowel movement exactly? In our history, there have been many movements, for instance, the one during the revolutionary war that created our country. "Patriots" have been around forever, and I'm sure that they have all had bowel movements at some point in time. So that's really what I wanted to say. For our children."

Genome soldiers is pushing it. But maybe I shouldn't complain, there was a psychic Russian who wore a gas mask 24/7.

(Of course, the Military really did have a "Far-seer" project, set up, actually, to counter the Russian's own projects. ...They were both very successful.)

Eh?

Really? On both counts?

Well coming to know that stories from Japan can take that turn (the actual live action movies do it from time to time) I'm actually used to it.

Does it make total sense? Not really. And it did kind of go off the handle considering how much of the game is centered in solid espionage as you said.

I'm sure Metal Gear 3 will have its own interesting little quirks but I'm sure Kojima (sp?) heard enough about his last 1/4 of 2. And considering it's back when...well that should keep it to a minimum.

No, I know that it IS a legitimate change in the story, and that other entertainment (spcifically movies in Japan) has made use of this type of story structure.

I'm not criticising people who enjoy it, as it is, really, just another type of story, and of course, if you don't like that type, then you don't have to partake.

I'm expressing how I feel that Kojima is such a virtuoso in some aspects, like playablility in real-world settings, and so I get really dissapointed when he decides not to stay there (real-world) throughout the whole game.

Who knows, maybe I'll eventually learn to like that type of story structuring.

(It made me want to kill someone during the final episode of Evangelion.)

Yes. Apparantly, there were individuals who gave amazingly accurate accounts of, for instance, layouts of various facilities.

I tend to think that they had simply been to these locations before, but the word is that there were supposed to be some kind of circumstances preventing that.
Yes, End Of Evangelion made me want to kill somebody as well. At least in MGS2 you still got to fight....though I suppose they both did intercut live action shots...

Eh, I'm sure there were some crazy stuff happening on both sides of the Cold War.

Anybody know of an updated link on this?
