The apparently never-ending Episode III thread - Page 2

Here's the other Tarkin photo.

I dunno, he may not have even been involved with principal photography at all, but is getting squeezed in through reshoots. I'm sure Tarkin won't have a huge role in Ep 3 (as in a lot of scenes).

It's all conjecture at this point, since all he's said was a bit in Starlog that he'd be playing a character from the original films, but couldn't say any more. Of course, he looks a damn lot like a younger Tarkin...assume what you will.

I also think he'd be a great choice.
Thats a great pic, but he looks like Tarkin from ANH. Add more hair and lose the liver spots and we have a younger Tark.

Again, test pics so I will shut my gob.
I still have hope for this film.

It probably wont be PG13 but look how far LOTR pushed that PG13 rating with all the decapitations and fighting, I hope Lucas can do the same and really push that PG boundary.
As long as Padme doesn't kill a monster by saying "I'm no woman" I think it should be great. I saw Return of the King again, and I have to say it will never be a classic with me because I can't stand to watch it with repeat viewings (this is just me of course and I'm not trying to change anyone's opinon). I did enjoy it the first time I saw it, but repeat viewings don't hold up for me.

I think I will go watch Back to the Future now.

More here (including the story behind this 2 or so minute music video of various rough shots from the EP3)...

I have been haunting Episode-x, Millennium Falcon, and theForce.net's message boards all day waiting for a video. Pretty neat stuff.

So, the video isnt out yet?
No the video isn't out. Something about not stealing thundar... Beats me... It will come out though, too many people have it for it not too. That's what I think. They are the ones with the webspace and the ones taking the risks and all, but no one cares who gives it out in the end, the only thing people care about is getting it. Like internet fame means anything...

I can just imagine Lucas ordering his henchmen to stake out the internet all night and day.

Just waiting for the moment it comes out to snatch it.

I imagine the plan is to put this on as many servers as possible and release it at an unexpected hour or day.

I'd say something like Sunday at 5pm is great. Who the hell is working at 5am on Sunday.

And I wonder how many Lucas spies are at TF.N as pretend fanboys, trying to find leaks and stuff.

Must...watch...video...
Someone said the guy who originally released the video was sleeping. And no one wants to release until he gives the okay because they promised they wouldn't until he gave the okay. Releasing 50 screen grabs isn't a way to hide you have it before posting it though.

Did you see the pic of Hayden in the vader costume? You can barely see him though... It's cool. It's like the trailer came early.

-Jason
Yea, a little blurry. Ok, VERY blurry but it satisfies my Ep3 need for now.

I cant wait if someone rotoscopes the saber scenes.

Damn, this looks just like how I wanted the big duel. Just fucking hardcore fighting disregarding the other dudes health.

I want to see blood fly.
If I get it Vader, I'll send me a pm and share it with you. Hopefully you'll do the same.

Damn their teasing.

I don't know what more hellish, getting asthma when I'm 24 and not being able to sleep because of it, or the above and waiting for this video.

It works... and color me spoiled.

Wow...
While still cautiously optimistic, that video gave me a lot of hope for episode 3. The duel looks amazing. Very intense. And Hayden actually seems to be coming across as the Anakin Skywalker/Vader I had always imagined as opposed to little kid and sulky teen. The sets also look much more like the OT( the sets there are before everyone pointsout the amount of blue and green screen). I can't wait.
Tip of the iceberg, as far as the duel is concerned.

As neat as this little video is, it amounts to a mere fraction of what's in the duel... and it doesn't even come close to showing the best stuff.

By the way, anyone spot the brief glimpse of Hayden in the Vader costume? (Hint: He's mostly offscreen to the right during the quick shot of Lucas "punching" Nick Gillard).
I opened the video with PowerDVD and then I hit pause. I can use the mouse wheel to look at each frame and go backwards and forwards. There is a lot of good stuff in this video.

Carl, so that is Hayden and not a stand-in, in the Vader suit?

-Jason
Yep. No one else dons the Vader costume (unless a situation might call for the use of a stuntman). Hayden's playing the character entirely (with the obvious exception of Vader's masked voice, by James Earl Jones).
Yeah you could never let a Canadian do the Vader voice. "I have you now..A."

Is that 3-PO or Padme running on the Veranda? If you can't comment I understand.

Thanks Carl.

-Jason
Looks like Padme.
Well, if that's the tip of the iceberg, Carl, I'm impressed. I know it's not much but something about the footage just feels right. They all seem to be having more fun(I know it's been carefully edited) and seem determined to get it right. Also, the fact that for the first time in the prequels the duel is going to have some history behind it. We know both these characters and, well, the snippets I've seen just look like everything I've been waiting for. It seems that what we thought would be spread over the entire three prequels will all take place in this final film. Fingers crossed.

Also, quick question Carl. Do you have any idea if some of the pickups schedueled for England have taken place? Only I was on a film set yesterday and one of the extras was talking about how he had done some work on them where he was a jedi in the temple who got killed by invading stormtroopers. Now, while it fits with what we think may happen, I'm not sure whether to believe him. I didn't speak to him myself unfortunately, but I work for the extras agency that has worked on the English shoots of the prequels and we ain't heard jack about them taking place yet and we thought they were taking place in March. Is this guy just another extra talking a load of crap?
I'm very excited about Episode III. Seeing the Tantive IV again is great. That seems to have been such a great idea. When you see it again in Episode IV you will think of Episode III. It really looks like the designs have moved away from the organic and into the industrialized look from the original, with just a few hints of the previous designs.

I thought that too, Jason. Even the lifts and separitist cruiser sets look like OT settings. the lift with Obi-Wan and Anakin in reminded me of the imperial outpost on Endor for some reason.
Speaking of Endor, Padme looks a bit like Leia in some of those shots. The shot were she is lauging mostly. Appears to almost be the same hair cut. Seeing Chewie, R2, and C-3PO in his old form really makes it feel like one of the old movies is coming out again.

In some strange way...I just found myself anticipating Ep. 3.

And all I saw was that like pic that moves Carl posted.

Color me surprised.

seeing vader

was anyone else hoping to not see the full vader outfit in this flick? maybe i'm an old nostalgic bitch, but i like the idea of seeing vader for the 1st time, truly, at the opening of ep4 in the shuttle. that just seems like such a bad ass 1st appearance

Like I wasn't already excited, great stuff. Thanks to all those Bothans amongst us.

I'm curious as to who the blue fellas are who are duelling with Obi Wan - at first when it showed just one I thought it might be Grievous but later there's 3 of them. They're holding what look like pikes - maybe they're Royal Guard? But why the blue-screen suit? One of them has an odd shaped head(helmet?), kind of bowl like.

Horkheimer I imagine a lot of folks would feel cheated at not seeing armour Vader - I 'm happy that it makes complete narrative sense to see Anakin in the familiar armour. I don't think it will make Vaders appearance in ANH impotent - it's just too cool an entrance, and anyway, Vaders just awesome in any scene he's in. Its the dark side mojo you know, comes with the job.

i'll buy it, if tthat's what they're selling...

but i know in my little fanboy mind (try as i might to ignore it), the real desire will always be to not see vader till the infamous ep4 entrance. my honest hope for ep3 had been that vader existed as a character, and maybe we saw him (or the swath he leaves behind him?), but don't actually connect vader and anakin as being the same person (a la, the fact that the palpatine/sidious are one in the same has not been revealed either). i just am still uncertain about losing all the great "reveals" of the OT i guess.

however! i will try to fight through my love of the past, and do my best to enjoy what is offered to me in ep3 ...

I could of used Vader MORE in these Episodes actually.

Don't know how it would work but seeing the one villian that very few villians ever conceived could match (only Joker comes close) in the PT's would have been INCREDIBLE!

Lucas really should be forever enshrined just for Dark Father...

Whoever thought putting AC/DC on a Star Wars featurette needs to be fired. Goddamn that was ridiculous. As for the featurette itself, the moves look cool, but the final result will all depend on the editing and I have trouble getting excited over a bunch of guys in front of a blue screen.

And Anakin still looks like Bon Jovi.
After watching that AVI, you could be forgiven for thinking that the entire movie is made up of one long sabre fight between Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen.

Personally, I found that refreshing... as if they are having more fun with it all this time around.

Don't like the Mount Doom scenes in LOTR? Because that's what much of this is gonna look like.
The last two movies seemed really cool before they came out too. Lucasfilm seems better at making the movies APPEAR good than actually being good.

Agreed! People need to chill the fuck out. They were having some fun with it. The "Back in Black" had to do with Vader.

That's true to a point (especially in regards to the trailers). But I don't remember the rough footage of TPM or AOTC looking this promising.

Also, and this is the God's honest truth, from what I have seen, heard, and know it would almost take a concerted effort on Lucas' part to deliver an EP3 that isn't considerably better than the previous two films. Lots more GOOD to work with this time around.

That said, I'll always be the first to tell everyone to remain cautious and skeptical. We've seen what can happen to these flicks in post.

Can't fans actually enjoy something without someone trying to rain on their parade. Relax and enjoy the vid, or don't. This is a small video from the making of Episode III. Nobody is proclaiming Episode III the greatest film of all time based on a two and a half minute vid. We're just enjoying footage that we otherwise wouldn't have. It's cool footage. Nothing more, nothing less.

I meant in the featurette. I saw everyone getting overexcited in this thread, but me I saw two actors playing their scene in front of a greenscreen, and while the move looks fine and dandy ultimately the success of a scene lies in how it's shot and edited, hence I'm not gonna start proclaiming that it's great or sucks until I see some kind of finished footage.
Blunt, the prequels get a lot of flak for being over reliant on FX/CG, surely it's not a bad thing if some people are liking what they see when all there is to focus on are the actors?

Never said that, just that it was my opinion that seeing the duel rehearsed was nice but not grounds enough for ME to say that it heightens my anticipation for the film as we have no idea to how it will translate in the finished film with the added value of how it's shot and edited. Also, the focus is on the actors, true, but doing physical stuff, which again gives us no idea of the performances. And believe me, "over reliance on FX" is probably the least thing that makes me dislike the prequels so far.
