Darkman 2

I love Darkman. It was the first Sam Raimi film I ever saw (not that I knew who he was at the time). Sadly, Darkman 2 was horrible, and I just avoid 3 completely since I was so dissapointed. I thought Arnold Vosloo was bad and wrong for the role. However, I just had to wonder if anyone else has the same HUGE pet peeve that I had with it (and no, it is not that Bruce should have taken over the role, although I wouldn't have minded): The end of Darkman 1, Westlake basically gives up his old life. He declares himself "Darkman" and heads out into the world, a new dark avenger. SOOOOO, he can look like ANYONE. Until he perfects his fake skin he has no need to look like his old self (Liam Neeson), in fact it's better he doesn't look like he did. For once in a recast sequel they had the PERFECT excuse for the "new" Darkman to not look like the old one. Yet, they take the orignal origin scene from the first one and cut in Vosloo. WHY?!?!? NO POINT TO IT AT ALL. From that point on I felt that the sequel was going to be full of missed opportunities, and I was right. I know it's a petty point in a lame sequel, but man it just sticks in my craw...

I wasn't too impressed with Darkman II, but it's better than a lot of DTV tosh that tatters our shelves. I have it on DVD.

And don't avoid Darkman III, it's a vastly superior film. The same writers as Face/Off and a an actually very decent storyline that explores Westlake's character, as opposed to doing a lamer retread of the original.

Arnold Vosloo's certainly no Liam Neeson though.
