Michael Mann's HEAT - Page 3

Buy the Blu for the audio more than visual. It's pretty damned amazing there.

The video's not exactly pristine, but it's not lackluster either.

Yeah, it's too bad they didn't do as good a job as was done with the LOTM blu-ray.

I wonder if they think highly enough of this title to double-dip us. If they'd do a proper restoration and new transfer I'd jump on it.

What's wrong with the LotM BD? I'm looking at getting a blu player this summer, and that's a title near the top of the list to buy.

? I'm pretty sure he was saying they did a great job with it, and NOT with Heat.

Doh! Reading is fundamental and shit. Thanks for the correction!

The only downside I know of to LOTM is no theatrical cut (I've heard many say they prefer it).

But Mann did supervise it. Could that be how he wants it to look? Or am I that gullible?

I guess that's how he likes it to look given the circumstances. But they could go back and create a new transfer which would likely give added visual clarity and such. From what I understand the Blu Ray release was just taken from the old HD-DVD master.

Isn't the BD a melding of the theatrical and DC DVD? From what I've read, the BD has the stuff I really wanted put back in, and cut out that awful monologue at the end.

But yeah - despite it being Mann, I vastly prefer the theatrical cut over the DC.

I could be way off base here, but I could swear I heard people saying the monologue is in on the Blu Ray.

According to this review (and others I've read), Chingachgook's Sermon on the Mound at the end is gone.

Hank Azaria has a little Heat story in this month's Onion A.V.

Live rounds with "action choreography"? That's as impressive a process as it is nuts.

And Tom Cruise? Scientology & tabloid bullshit aside, dude is a motherfucking pro. Goddamn.

You can say anything you want about Cruise (and you'd be wrong), but the dude COMMITS.

The good and 'bad' of Cruise both come from just how hard the guy COMMITS.  His commitment to what he does has never been in question for me.  I've always admired the guy's work ethic.

The only problem I've ever had with a Cruise performance is that he sometimes doesn't let you forget how hard he's working.
