Have we talked about Creepshow lately?

If we have I'm sorry. But I just got home from work and found out my kids (ages 10 and 11), and a visiting friend, snuck a viewing of it this afternoon (I found the case poorly hidden under the couch). They were somewhat disturbed my older daughter, so much that they couldn't watch the final episode with the cockroaches. My younger is a veteran so she breezed through alright. However, I am thinking about stumbling into their bedroom later tonight, "Where's my Fathers Day cake!" Give 'em some memories.

However, it's my own fault for leaving it out, having watched it Friday night. I think I'll leave the Thing out next week.

My favorite was the Crate, followed by Fathers Day then the Bugs (I can't remember the episode title). I really didn't like Something To Tide You Over or Lonesome Death.

I sure would like an SE DVD of this. Commentaries from Romero and King and some of the cast. It deserves better treatment than it has gotten.

I think this is an awesome flick. Great score, good performances (King being questionable, but still entertaining in an over-the-top-and-down-the-other-side kinda way), overall, solid film.

I enjoyed the sequel too. Gotta love a slick of moist toilet paper as a villain.

Weird you mention this. For Christmas, I bought (among other stuff) for my nephews, 11 & 12, Creepshow, The Thing, Escape From NY and the Lost Boys.


The cockroach one still gets to me to no end. I have a huge issue with creepy crawlies.

What a cool little movie Creepshow is.

Romero and King at their best.

The comic bookishness almost feels natural by the middle of the movie. (I know some people in other threads found it distracting, but since that was the point of the whole movie, one big comic book...)

Hell, I even like Creepshow 2, flawed compared to the first one and all. The Raft is easily the best segment of that movie.

I read the comic book tie-in first as a kid and then saw the movie, and was a bit let down by "The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill" segment. I was expecting some awesome weed effects, but in the final movie it just looks like a green rug.

But now, I can appreciate it more, and the segment's Looney Tunes-type character reactions are great.

No bullshit: Creepshow is one of my all-time favorite films. In fact, it's in my top 3. I love absolutely everything about it. To me, Creepshow is a warm blanket, an affectionate love letter to horror fans that delivers on every level. Every horror anthology that comes along has Creepshow to live up to in my book, and they never make it. (And I'd wipe my ass with the sequel before I'd watch it again...Raft or no Raft...talk about a sequel that just doesn't get it.)

Gus, it's ironic that you said the young "offenders" watching the film illegally were 10 and 11. I was 10 or 11 when I first saw Creepshow and The Thing. (Of course, they were fresh to home video and cable at the time.) It's the perfect age to have your brain warped and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

While this is a great little flick in its own right, I also have strong nostalgic feelings for it.
Creepshow was the first movie I ever rented. Must have watched that sucker three times before returning it to my local Wall To Wall Sound And Video store (now known as The Wall). That was early '84, and I haven't gotten tired of it yet.

I remember bringing the "comic book" to class in the 6th grade. I left the class knowing full well that the girls would go through my backpack. They asked me when I came back "What is that comic book? It's gross!" I suggested that they see the movie.

I found Ralph Fiennes American accent accent to be a little forced...no, wait...

...seriously though, only caught up with this when I purchased a double pack with (of all things) Altered States when I went out to the Butane's this last summer.

Needless to say, loved it, though The Crate I thought could have been shorn of 5 minutes or so. And I love that fact that it was a time when Leslie Nielson actually got to act.

Score, as Jared says, is fantastic. Portmanteau pictures have never reached these heights since...

Hal Halbrooks character Dexter(?) was my favorite. He was one of the few characters in the movie that developed over the course of his story (from a meek, cuckholded husband to an overly confident 'problem solver'). Upson Pratt was a classic too. The Creeping Up On You (thanks Bunnymud) episode almost didn't fit in the movie because of it. It was too good with a story with meaning that went beyond the EC Comics borders.

"Dad," my daughter asked as I tucked her in last night, "am I going to have nightmares?"

The temptation to croak out, "Where's my cake Bedelia?" was strong but then I remembered Atticus Finch, patron saint of good fathers, and gave her a hug and a kiss.

And she didn't have any nightmares at all.

This movie has such a huge soft spot in my heart. When I was younger I remeber watching this with my grandfather when I was like 6. It always seemed to be on TV when I was little too.
I picked up the DVD a couple of months ago and I'd never realized how great it is. I'd always missed some of it, or been to scared to watch others.
I hope to god a good DVD of this comes out.

Creepshow is a classic. My 6-year-old loves it. She's definitely Daddy's girl. This is the same kid who helped me pick The Dead Hate the Living when I got a gift card and couldn't decide on a film.

The reason I like this one so much is because of the comic book feel it has. Horror comics and horror hosts were among my first exposures to horror so when the two were put together like that (by none other than King and Romero, by God) it was only natural for me to love it. This movie definitely needs/deserves more adulation than a bare bones DVD release. Maybe at the 25 year mark?

On a side note, to illustrate my daughter's lineage, when she was only about 2, my wife and I were watching Alien. Our daughter came in and it was at the part where Lambert & Parker are about to get it. She was looking intently at the screen. I told my wife "Watch this." I gave it another minute and yelled "BOO!" Did my daughter jump? No. She looked at me with a "What the fuck was that?" look on her face and turned back to the t.v.

Did anyone here ever get to go to Universal Stuidos Florida when they used to have the horror make up show? They showed a clip of the Tom Savini FX of the bugs busting out of the man, and I belive that they sowed how they did it, but I can't remember It was abot 7 or 8 years ago. They also had the transporters from The Fly there as well, and made the guy turn into the Fly. Good stuff. We've seen the Horror make-up show twice, they still have it, or atleast they did when we were there in May. It's my husband's favorite part of Universal. We are hoping to catch Halloween Horror nights this October. Off the subject a little, he thinks he is more excited about Van Helsing than I am.
I love Creepshow and Creepshow 2, recently bought both of them, little pre-Christmas gift to myself. My favorite "episode" in 2 is the hitcher "Hey lady, thanks for the ride"

I kind of saw Tales from the Darkside as the equivalent of a Creepshow TV show. I mean, stylistically, it never came close, but it sometimes "had that feel." Things got weirder when The Cat From Hell was used as a segment in Tales from the Darkside: The Movie (a movie which I felt was a feature version of a spinoff of Creepshow to begin with), afterall, wasn't the Romero-King adaptation something that was simply left over from an aborted segment of a Creepshow sequel?

Creepshow needs a new Special Edition DVD. There are deleted scenes that exist... plus some commentaries, making of, EC comics tributes, etc would all be welcome.

Big fan of Creepshow as well. I showed it to my oldest son (11 years old) this past Halloween night. Pretty much all of my extended family (11 and up) watched it that night and had a great time. The only episode I'm not really fond of is "The Lonesome Death...".

A couple weeks ago I got this for $4.88 at the Wal Mart, and it was a great buy. I thought the first segment really stunk, but I loved the rest, especially the one with Leslie Nielsen. And did anyone ever watch Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood? Remember Chuck Aber from that show? He's the guy who says "Nice shot!" after Hal Holbrook fantasizes about shooting Barbeau in the head. I thought that was pretty funny.

Hell, I saw Creepshow when I was 7 or 8. I was obsessed with it then and I still am. Having bought the second one I remembered how damn few episodes were on it compared to the first! The sequel has what.. 3? Where as the first one has 5 AND a live action episode inbetween that isn't some miserable care bears animated sequence piece of turd.

My favorite quotes from Creepshow one off the top of my head!

Creepshow is an absoluetly excellent horror film. There aren't too many movies that have that ability to scare people as adults but I'll tell you that there's probably a good chance that at least one of the stories there does for someone when ever I sit people down for a viewing. That cockroaches shit is just creepy as hell. They need more horror movies like this. Last film I remember of its type was TALES FROM THE HOOD. Sadly, I don't think movies like this would work too often in today's movies but it would still be nice to see.

I actually tried putting together my own series of horror tales but it was very difficult to get off the ground.

yeah, Tales from the Hood was a great one. Two other good relatively recent ones were Campfire Tales and Grim Prairie Tales.

cos you gotta have the EC "Tales" part in there.

I love horror films from the 80's and this is close to the top of my list. My favorite character is the Leslie Neilson character. Low key, unfazed by everything untuil the end, great work. I also love Fritz Weaver as the professor who discovers the crate. Totally unhinged performance, yet not too overdone.
