That's right, baby...BLACULA!

I picked this up yesterday, along with SCREAM, BLACULA, SCREAM, and had an absolute blast watching it this afternoon. MGM's Soul Cinema has put out a fine presentation of this cult classic, and I love them for it.

I'd forgotten just how effective William Marshall was in the lead role, and I completely agree with past reviewers who've praised his onscreen dignity and serious approach to the role. He takes a one-note joke and infuses it with style and presence. Still, he's surrounded by your basic blaxploitation foundations, but they're so much damned fun. And hey, there's even a fair amount of the red stuff.

Good fun for anyone!

As for the sequel, well, it's not as good, but I'm a completist, and it does at least have some atmosphere provided by its director, the same guy who helmed the equally underrated Count Yorga flicks.

Marshall was SO ABOVE blaxploitation. I rate him up there with Chris Lee. Pure class.

Bought this last night! One of my favorite "Soul" movies!

I've been raving about this movie for years. It's just so much fun.

The mourge scene, with the guy on the phone, scared the shit out of me as a kid!

A classic movie.

I can't wait to get my hands on these.. They shipped on tuesday.. I may be one of the few who thinks Scream Blacula Scream is better than the original.. It seemed to work better as a straight horror movie but also didn't take itself too seriously and was alot of fun. I wish Bob Kelljan (who directed SBS and the Count Yorga movies) did more horror.. I really like his work.

God bless you for the Futurama quote.

Best thing about these boards? Knowing someone will ALWAYS get a random quote.

How much of my cred would I lose by admitting to never having seen either of these movies?

Hypothetically, I mean...

Well, I may have to ask you to step outside for real, this time...heh heh.

Hell, man, they're only $9.99 at Best Buy and completely worth adding to your trash cinema collection. They were two of AIP's more interesting blaxploitation horror riffs, and William Marshall is a hoot. Plus, the second one's got an early appearance by Pam Grier.

Okay, I'll rectify the oversight soon...although it may have to be a rental...I've still not recovered from the xmas credit card bills enough to throw down ten bones sight unseen--actually, I'm never far enough out of the hole to do that.
