I picked this up yesterday, along with SCREAM, BLACULA, SCREAM, and had an absolute blast watching it this afternoon. MGM's Soul Cinema has put out a fine presentation of this cult classic, and I love them for it.
I'd forgotten just how effective William Marshall was in the lead role, and I completely agree with past reviewers who've praised his onscreen dignity and serious approach to the role. He takes a one-note joke and infuses it with style and presence. Still, he's surrounded by your basic blaxploitation foundations, but they're so much damned fun. And hey, there's even a fair amount of the red stuff.
Good fun for anyone!
As for the sequel, well, it's not as good, but I'm a completist, and it does at least have some atmosphere provided by its director, the same guy who helmed the equally underrated Count Yorga flicks.
