Cannibal Holocaust - Us Dvd???

I thought Grindhouse (who did CANNIBAL FEROX some time ago) would put out a DVD of CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST as well ...

But will they ever get around to actually do it? And why should I care and wait a few years longer when I can pick up the Japanese or Italian DVDs instead?

that cover looks purty
Why would someone want to even buy this DVD? Nostalgia?
There are many foreign DVDs of this movie available.

I say go for one of them. That's what I did.

You can always sell the Region 2 DVD on e bay once you hear of a definate U.S. DVD release.

Call it morbid curiosity. I've never seen the flick. And it's said to be actually quite good, which is more than I could say of the turkey that was CANNIBAL FEROX.

Hell, if it was good enough to be ripped off in BLAIR WITCH PROJECT I owe it to myself to at least watch it once ...
Yeah, if your a horror fan, watch it at least once.
Sorry, maybe it's just me, or I'm a self-admited wimp, but I just can't get myself to watch anything with real animal deaths involved. I like my movies when everything is fake.....
I've always wanted to see it, and I won't shell out for a multiregion dvd player either. Bring on the damn US release.

I actually have a copy of it and I didn't realize how much real animal killing was in it before I bought it. It makes me sick I can't even watch it again. Besides that, I did like the movie. I like the people getting what the deserve at the end.

That sounds sickening ...

The director of CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST has said that he now regrets including the animal cruelty in his film and that he'd make the film without any of that stuff if he'd do it today.

Just a turtle?

Off the drugs ehh? (I don't know if he was on drugs, but he was working under a deluded mind.)

He probably got too many boots to the ass, that he realised he had done a bad thing.
The animal stuff isn't particularly disturbing, it's just flat out turn-you-vegan GROSS. I even had trouble eating a PB&J sandwich after watching that turtle's jellylike guts wobbling about. Also one bloke slices a monkeys head open to enjoy the sweet, sweet innards.

Absolutely necessary horror film, though. Some films restore your faith in humanity... This one removes any faith you ever had.

I have to be in the right mood to watch it.

It wasn't your typical box turtle. From what I remember it was one that was on a protected species list.

Also, there was some kind of rodent too that they killed on screen.
Ohh, didn't they shoot a pig too?
Think that was just Ferox

The director of Ferox said the same thing

He didn't want the animal killing in the movie but the producer or someone said that that kind of crap was HUGE in Korea or something, so he had his AD shoot the scenes
post #21 of 45
cannibal holo does have a pig scene (very nasty, he kicks the poor thing before busting a cap in it)
i have seen niether Cannibal Holocost or Cannibal Ferox but im been tempted to buy the overseas dvd's many times, maybe i should

I met David Szulkin form Grindhouse last summer and specifically
asked for the CH DVD since I love that flick.

He told me at the time that they were all over it.
They had already recorded an audio commentary with Deodato and Kerman, plus filmed interviews with them.
He wasn't sure whether it would be a 1 disc od 2 disc DVD set.
He said the transfer is astonishing, plus it wil have extensive
stills gallery.

Of course, I asked for the release date since it's been pushed ever since it was announced. Lol.
He said it would be probably by the end of the year (2003).
ell, the end of the year came and went, so I guess we gotta wait a bit more.
As far as I know Grindhouse are only 3 guys, that's why it takes forever to get things done.

I saw it in a Virgin Megastore where I live for $26 bucks.........
See if they have it in one near you.........

Check the link for info on the movie:

Folks this movie is the shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Deodato, the director, was forced to put in the animal killing scenes by the distributor, and some were shot and inserted without his participation (I say some, mind you).

I hate animal cruelty with a passion, so I just fast forward past that shit.

The rest of the movie is a decent story, with very disturbing images.

To be honest, I'm actually suprised the animal cruelty has kept people away.

It is horrible, and I wish it wasn't there, but I've seen people on these boards wet themselves over head explosions and real life horrors like Faces of Death/Death Traces.

So it's a little shocking when I hear about a movie that people can't watch...like this one or the Guinea Pig movies (Those movies get so much shit on this board!).

Cannibals.

I own and love "Cannibal Ferox" and it's a fun movie for anyone that loves hysterical Italian trash cinema...and Giovanni Radice!
"Cannibal Holocaust" along w/ it's semi-prequel "Jungle Holocaust"(aka The Last Cannibal World), are a different matter all together. Both films are deadly serious, disturbing, and surprisingly well made. CH of course is the real prize with it's truly unnerving look at the hypocrisy of the "civilized" filmmakers treatment of the natives.
Even when the cannibals take their revenge against the filmmakers, it's not exactly a fate you'd wish upon anyone.
It's a humorless bit of cinema, boiling over w/ rape, animal cruelty, and a sense of realism (for the time) that went on to inspire it's (IMHO) lesser counter-part "The Blair Witch Project".
Check it out if your a horror fan, because it is a kind of rite of passage.

I bought my copy at Xploited Cinema.com
Diabollik DVD may also carry it.

*spits out veal, throws off fur coat, hides rabbit's foot, and throws all his hamburger meat out the window*

Whew! Forgot I was in a PETA forum.

Really, I hate hearing people whine about the real animal deaths in the film and then they turn around and eat a baby bird along with their thinly sliced pig in the morning.

Unless you're a vegetarian...then I double hate you for ruining a bunch of good menus with your vegetarian shit.
I am glad that people find this animals abuse wrong whether they eat meat or not. I am vegan and am glad that people don't like that abuse. So enough of that lets talk about some cannibalism....

Theres a difference between killing an animal for food or clothing and TORTURING an animal to give a piece of celluloid better shock value.
Just because I use condoms doesn't mean that I wish to gut a sheep, milk it's intestines of the shit, slap it on my dick, just so I could rub one out without getting some spots on my blanket.

But then, that is what a chicken rag is for

Yes. She also gets raped, decapitated, and eaten (simultaneously) by the enraged cannibals, fun stuff no?

In the event that this eloquent bit of mad cow induced vomit was intented as sarcasm, I'll refrain from responding ....

Getting back to the topic of filmaking, I beleive that most die-hard horror fans appreciate the art of creating disturbing imagery and frightening on-screen situations ... Simply filming or videotaping the crime of killing an animal or dreadful misfortune of a car accident has no relation whatsoever to the art of moviemaking ...

They ate the turtles...

But that's beside the point.

Every seen a real slaughterhouse? Animals are killed in some pretty damn ruthless ways.

But in this day of modern technology you don't ever have to touch real meat, and that would save millions of animals from horrible deaths. Yet people choose to eat meat. Myself included, but I don't whine about their horrible deaths whether they be for food or not.

Really, where are the people chasing Ted Nugent around with an axe? No one seems to mind he shoots defenseless animals for FUN, and not even to make money.

This society boggles my mind.

This DVD is my second most wanted . I really want this.I almost bought a region free dvd player, but I am not sure it is legal.

When you film an animal eating, or killing before it eats, it is not bad. Most of modern men can't see the violence, the guts. They want the nice chicken breasts, but don't want to know where it is from. We killed to eat. Vegetarian too, but they don't hear the scream of the plant, so it is ok.

By the way my first most wanted is ........Cemetary man by Mikael Soavie. Fuck I want this DVD

For the Region 1 people here wanting to see this movie, you don't have to worry about all-region DVD players.

There is an import, a Dutch release I think, by EC Entertainment. It is NTSC all region.

You can probably get it from a website like Diabolik DVD or Xploited Cinema.

Ted Nugent eats his kills

anyh00...I wish there was a way to play the DVD and have it skip the animal killings

that would make the DVD hundreds of times better
post #38 of 45

Odd Film

I bought this film on good faith, but I have to tell you It's mystery Science Theater Material. Just the part where the dummy takes a dive out the window and his arm flies off upon impact and then in the next shot the arm is intact again, is worth the price of the dvd alone, but those that are defending this film as being good, come on now. This film had me on the floor laughing, it's just not very well made.

That sounds like a scene from Dr.Butcher M.D.

Dude, get a region free player I just got one last week, after my girlfriend got me Dellamorte Dellamore on Region 3 DVD, and it's amazing on DVD. (Not to say it didn't rock on VHS) Check out 220-Electronics.com they have a player for $109 and then like $15 shipping. It's got a PAL/NTSC converter and plays all regions, and best of all the price is most definently right.

WHAT KIND OF NON-REGION FREE PLAYER DO YOU HAVE???

oops....caps

You are a lucky man, I hope it is going to be mine soon.

As for the region free DVD. My friend tells me that even if it is region free, It most be Nstc and not Pal. The Tv won't be able to show the image(even if it got a converter?) Most european movies are incompatible with us (He said). I want the Italian Horror masters. SO what should I do? How can I verify if it is compatible? Zeroillision did you tried a pal dvd?

To the best of my knowledge region free usually means REGION FREE; I have a Malata DVP-300 that I purchased from 110220Volts.com, for $98( or less if I remember correctly), it works w/ any DVD in the world NTSC or PAL.
All you have to do is set it to NTSC (or whatever your original format is), so that it recoginizes your region and plays the DVD accordingly.

p.s., be sure it specifies built in PAL/NTSC converter in the item description before purchasing whatever model you choose.
