Lucas getting what he deserved?

By now, most of you should have heard about the leaked Ep3 footage. In just a day or so, it's all over the net. That's power.

I've never been interested in hyperspace and find it downright offensive that Lucas and co. expect me to PAY for little snippets of pre-release Ep3, most of which has just about the same meh-tease-type-vibe as we've already gotten pre-Ep1 and 2 FOR FREE.

I'm glad the footage leaked... I haven't seen it, but I've seen snippets and I think it looks great. I'm going to see Ep3 and have nothing personal against Lucas, but I feel this is pretty ironic.

Agreed on "Hyperspace". They've really got some nerve charging for shit that should be made public in the first place. It's especially greedy considering that interest in "Star Wars" is probably at an all time low; they're essentially ripping off their most loyal fans.

I hadn't heard about leaked footage, but the Ep. 3 spoilers have been coming by the truckload. It seems like more of the plot is fully fleshed out than AOTC was by this point.

I'll see Episode 3, but George and co. are really reaping what they sow. Give us mediocre films and they'll get a mediocre response. I know I'm not the only dissillusioned "Star Wars" fan out there....

They're charging for something I don't want. No loss for me. I think the less I know about Ep3, the better.
So far I haven't really come across spoilers cept for that one thread on these boards...

What's this about leaked footage? Someone fill me in please.

somebody leaked a 2.5 minute video of various Ep3 footage... the duel, Padme, Vader, etc... check the franchises thread and go to the "...crispy Anakin..." one.

What is that? A triple negative? It's a bad grammar hat trick!

I'm not even gonna go there.

This video has nothing to do with Hyperspace.

It's a bootleg (someone with a videocamera) taken during a test run of the video which was made for and shown to "Star Wars" licensees in Europe about 2 or 3 weeks ago.

If anything, Lucasfilm is probably breathing a sigh of relief that the 9+ minute video from the U.S. licensee "summit" wasn't the one leaked. That one actually contains finished footage and is about 5 times longer than this one.

Colt45, this really was an unneeded thread. Star Wars is not the first website to charge money for premium content. If you don't want it, don't pay for it. The free site is still there. Lucas has little to nothing to do with the official site. It's a self-sustaining entity unto itself. Lucas doesn't fund everything with his wallet as many of you think he does.

Besides, as Carl stated absolutely nothing about the leaked vid has a thing to do with Hyperspace.

Does Terrell has some spider-sense like power that warns him everytime someone badmouths Lucas and prompts him to jumps to his master's defense?

"Here, doggie doggie..."
I'm assuming I didn't miss anything really worthwhile. Either way, I'd rather see a free site than a pay one. But, the content seems quite good for what you pay.
I think it's outrageous that Lucas charges people to see these prequels when they're released.

Have you seen this preview, or know anything that's included?

God, I hope (really hope) this film is better than the last two. I want to love it; but I also wanted to love AOTC, and was extremely let down.

and how many of you own the national geographic LotR "making of" shit

What the fuc... OH! Thought you said "Wachowski".

Right now I'm not even interested in any new footages of Ep III, leaked or not. My enthusiasm for the next and last Star Wars film has never been lower, and the only way Lucas can reignite my interest in Star Wars is if he release the OT on DVD, without the Special Edition crap he added on later.

I must have a Spider-Sense too, because I I knew this thread was about badmouthing Lucas, and I don't go either way on the guy.

As one of those who were rootling around Archie and Gopher servers when the World Wide Web was nothing more than a sparkle in Tim Berners Lee’s eye – I must admit that I found Starwars.com’s decision to go pay-per-view to be somewhat distasteful.

Of course I accept that the Internet is changing (for the better?), and that business and commerce are the driving forces behind this transformation. But when I think back to those heady Internet days of the late 80s, when the last thing on most peoples’ minds was making money, I can’t help but think that we have taken a wrong turn somewhere.

The overwhelming majority of internet users prefer free sites though. That's the thing, no one is ever going to get insanely rich off a pay-per-use service on the net unless it is porn.

What a strange comment. Obviously everyone (not just "internet users") prefers free, it's one of those laws of physics, I'm sure of it. The real question is, who exactly gets "insanely rich" off of the alternative?

The porn industry is the only legit (man that just sounds odd) success on the net. Seriously, Amazon just recently stopped losing money, Apple's iTunes Music Store isn't even breaking even yet, and I don't even want to bring up it's competitors.

Whatever, it's not like Lucas is planning on getting insanely rich off of a service targeted towards his most ardent fans anyway. And since the story isn't even about Hyperspace, why is this such an issue in the first place? Sounds like a lot of people here are just pissed that they're too cheap to get the service themselves.

Isn't hyperspace like $20 a year? That's not an excessive amount to pay.
i dunno, personally this footage has me psyched, so i think lucas is getting what he wanted...i think he set up the guy with the camera, it's all a ploy to guarrantee a record breaking first day! he's got me.

After eps I and II, yes it is.

Hey,
Second post be easy on me -
I just really want to like the prequils - but after watching the first two I can't help but feel nothing but contempt for Lucas. And the Hyperspace stuff really makes him vunerable to leaks because nobody wants to pay for rumors and spoilers and stuff we'll all know soon enough. After seeing the "back in black" movie I am a little bit interested - looked cool enough - but it's hard to get excited over a lot of CGI and live actors in front of blue-screen. If I wanted to see that I'd watch my local weather report.

I doubt he set the guy up with the camera, but I agree that this footage getting leaked ends up being a win for Lucas. It's piqued the interest of the majority of the folks who've seen it.

here's the footage Ep. 3 footage

I have yet to see any of the links to this supposed footage actually work.

This "THEY OWE ME" mentality is baffling. Utterly baffling.

That link Mr_Kurtz posted worked fine for me.

Yeah, too bad it wasn't actually the finished footage ... but still, it was kinda neat to watch. Anakin looks pretty bad ass ... well, as "bad ass" as Anakin can possibly look.

Yep, but most think they deserve something. Fucking babies I say.
i never understood that raped my childhood thing, so damn stupid.

same thing with the matrix sequels.

you need to chill out, would you do that for me?
yeah i agree, i loved episode one when i saw it the first 3 times, then i bought into the neagative buzz, it took seeing the yoda fight scene online before i actually had faith again, and something snapped, i got the episode 1 dvd and realized lucas had not wronged me in anyway...except with jar jar.

and I agree with the matrix sequels, we're not ready for them yet. Everyone I talk to envisioned something totally different.

And if you look at the footage, or any of the special features, there is this theme of them trying to make the prequels for the fans and to grab new fans. He's trying, he's jsut lost a lot of his special touch, but it's still special enough.
After seeing EP1, being utterly disappointed, then being forced to see EP2, leaving that with a bitter taste in my mouth, etc. I'm pretty much of the opinion that Lucas deserves what happens to him no matter what. I never thought the original SW franchise would look like a fluke in someone's career, but...
I don't think it was a fluke. THX and GRAFFITI (how the fuck do you spell that word?), plus A NEW HOPE show the man knew how to direct once. I guess the obsession with new technology plus the huge passage of time between 77 and 99 really didn't help him. It's a shame really, as I believe he could have been a great filmmaker. He's got so caught up in money and technology that he's forgotten why people really love movies.
