Hills Have Eyes remake

I've heard many good things about Haute Tension, so this might not be a bad thing. I do enjoy the original but it would be hard to defend it as a "perfect" film. What do you guys think?

I think it is a shame that no one in Hollywood has an original idea anymore. If Haute is as good as I've heard great...give these guys a new project instead of remaking yet another classic flick.

Atleast Lussier isn't directing it. He should stick to editing. Haven't seen HAUTE TENSION yet, but i hear mixed reactions. I will probably catch it at the 20th Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival in April.

c'mon quit being so picky you should be glad (or shouldnt, dont know hehe) that at least is a remake thats going to be well done... and its a cool next step for those french guys :P they have plenty of time to build a very solid horror career if u ask me, so i think its cool...at least the movie will have strong background not just some john doe directing, this will actually have two nice writers and one nice director... to me it doesnt get more cool than that as far as a horror remake goes... im happy with the news... it sounds great to me "Hills Have Eyes " Directed by: Alexandre Aja... :P plus, it will look fine in his filmography.... the guy has a future... and i find this remake a GREAT chance to him

I just don't see a point in remaking it. I'd rather see something, anything come out of Hollywood that isn't a remake.

Yep, i agree with u in that matter... but thats not the subject here... its pointless to complain about remakes each time one is announced... they'll stuck to this idea as long as it makes profit... so nothing can be done :/ so if it gotta be remade... them make it good! :P so thats what im talking about, if a remake is getting done and theres notting i can do about it... than it better have cool people envolved at least

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I loved the original but I'm keeping an open mind. I'm even looking forward to the remake of Dawn of the Dead....because I love Ving Rhames! On the whole though, I'm not a huge fan of remakes, especially since the Pyscho fiasco.

I'm just waiting for these idiots to start messing with my favorites then I'll be forced to go to Hollywood with a very large, very sharp knife. Bad enough they're gonna screw with Willy Wonka. If they ever touch Jaws I'll have to hurt them.

This is Aja's dream project. He's been offered a lot of stuff in Hollywood, but it was always contingent on whether or not he'd land on this. "Haute Tension" is well-directed and you can tell he's a solid director, BUT the movie itself is, well...

It's good news that Aja is enthusiastic about the project and while I'm not sure the original can be improved upon (as usual) I think I can live with the idea that it is being remade. What frightens me is not the idea of a HILLS HAVE EYES remake itself or Aja's involvment but the fact that it is coming from fucking Dimension. What was the last remotely good genre film that they made? THE CROW? Even on MIMIC they fucked Guillermo del Toro over a thousand times and ruined his perfect ending for the film in favour of the schmaltzy shit-blowing-up crap that's in the finished film. One can only imagine how Weinstein will rape whatever good ideas Aja has in order to dumb down the finished film. Miramax and Dimension just love to hire foreign talent that has made great debut movies and then ass-rape their creativity into submission.

Probably what would've been a better wording to Wetbones' question was, "When was the last time Miramax/Dimension released a good horror movie that they'd developed internally that wasn't just a negative pick-up?"

Between the Hills Have Eyes remake and the complete tcmizing of the House Of Wax remake, I think we are in store for a whole slew of uberstylish big budget slashers. I don't really have a problem with that, but I'm definitly more interested in the asian remakes. The Ring was a move in the right direction for theatrical horror; atmospheric, and intelligent, while the whole Wrong Turn/TCM thing seems to be taking horror backwards to the hack and slash of the late 70's early 80's and just inserting gloss. But as long as they are enjoyable popcorn flicks I can't complain too much, it's not like I was old enough to watch the originals in the theatre.

I'm not against remakes. I say they can be a great thing.

Carpenter's the Thing (more of a reimagining). Dawn of the Dead (reimagining also). The Fly (reimagining). TCM remake (reimagining).

I think, obviously, reimagining is the key to a remake. Update it for a new generation. I am all in favour of this....or shall I say I was.

Now it's getting grating. It seems every announcement these days is for a remake or rerelease, and it's getting boring. Like I say I am not against remakes, used sparringly, but it's getting to the point of insanity, no, it's jumped that point, back again and danced all over it.

I am BEGGING someone to take a chance on something new and original.

Has there been anything "new and original" from hollywood land from any genre recently? Most of the offbeat and fresh films are mostly found in the film festival or art house circuit. The most we can hope for on the big screen is a steady stream of competent mainstream horror product. I think Cabin Fever was the biggest risk a studio has taken on a horror film in a long time.

Yes, that's what I meant. THE OTHERS was a fine film but they just bought the rights to it when it was finished so the only way to fuck it up would have been to let it rot on a shelf like a few other great Spanish horror films ...

One something like their HILLS HAVE EYES remake they have a zillion chances to screw it up, starting with the script to breathing over Aja's shoulder during shooting to hiring some hack for re-shoots if they still don't like it and so forth and so on.

Weinstein is a fat whore and I don't trust the fucker.

Wait til you see Open Water. Everyone's calling it Blair Witch meets Jaws but it's not really either. Such a simple idea but it had to be done just right in order to create real suspense, could've been cheesy otherwise.

As for Haute Tension, have seen it. Enjoyed it. Gory as hell. There's some plot points that are easy to figure out if you know the trend in storytelling tricks, but enjoyable nontheless.

Eh, I think the original is a competant movie, but in my eyes not a giant classic.

I don't hate it, but I don't get moist over it.

A remake of this, like most remakes is unneeded, but who knows...it might be good.


My admiration for the Dawn of the Dead remake is forcing me to be open minded in the remake opinion...I don't know...is that good or bad?

I think that we're in a bad area where all the "worthy" horror films have been or are being remade, and now films like Hills Have Eyes are going to be caught in a bad spot. Sure, everyone on this board knows the film but I guarentee you if you polled high school kids anywhere you'd find that MAYBE 5-10% have even heard of the film. That's a far cry from TCM's awareness. It's a bad idea.
