Haha... Undead SUCKS

Man, just watched this 2 nights ago, what a load of shit. Why am I laughing? Just cause I went back to read Butane's review

http://www.creature-corner.com/reviews/undead.php3

I seem to remember the Inspector saying a while ago that he didn't like this film... well it's officially the first time I've ever agreed with him. The film is filled with painfully unfunny moments, TERRIBLE CGI, and a plot that makes House of the Dead look coherent.

Now, my hatred for this may be because I'm pretty sick of zombie movies in general. I mean, I fucking get it folks, you think George Romero is a good director, swell guy, that's fucking great, but how about something original?

And by original, I don't mean bad CGI aliens and a plot that seems like it was 2 different scripts torn up and crammed into one film.

Just thought I'd give you guys my opinion, so you're not too let down when you finally see this. I'll be gone for the weekend, but I"m sure I"ll come back on Sunday to see all the hate mail piling up.

Man that's harsh. I haven't seen it yet. But it can't be worse that HOUSE OF THE DEAD? Can it?

No, it's not worse than House of the Dead, but Butane's love for it is just staggering to me... I'm not sure we watched the same film.

Wasn't a fan of the film either. Not worse than House of the Dead, at least Undead had a little ambition. Just didn't dig it.

But there's a Creature-Corner quote on the DVD so it has to be good! I usually trust that site!

Ass. Eat it, Wetbones.

Opinions vary, it's not my fault if yours is wrong...

I wasn't a big fan of it either. It had it's moments but it was mostly pretty bad. Could of done with out the aliens. Could of actully done with knowing what the hell was going on!

Anyone reading this post shouldn't buy the bad shit being said about this movie, I'm a fan of it. The biggest problem with it was, like so many other indies, there was just too much hype. I'm not a big fan of hype.

I just know that if everyone found this movie on the shelf of a video store and rented it blind, it would become one of their favorites.

The CGI wasn't bad either. Considering there are so many Hollywood flicks out there with horrible CGI, and the fact that the Spierig brothers did the vast majority of the animation themselves (maybe all of it), it's pretty fucking good CGI.

Come on people, don't hate Undead because you were told you'd love it.

Yeah, it's definitely nothing BRILLIANT, and most of it is pretty rough around the edges, but it's more clever, more colorful, and on the whole, more successful at what it tries to do, than most horror movies from the last few years.

Some of the visuals--the images of the small plane barreling through the vast field of bodies hanging frozen, suspended in space, in particular--are pretty stunning, and even if a lot of the action doesn't quite come off and some individual scenes fall flat, the movie as a whole plays as a smart, gruesome example of the kind of grim black joke the genre hasn't seen much of since the first "Evil Dead" movie.

2 things that never quite go together:

Johnny Butane & good taste in movies.

I kid because I care

I still dig this film lots. Even more considering the sorry-ass state of zombie movies these days.

But I have to ask: where are people seeing this movie? Bear in mind that if your response is "I downloaded off the internet", you automatically invalidate any opinion you may have.

I think it's valid to say that the hype partially ruined it for me, many people who read reviews like Butane's are going to be disappointed.

However, as I stated, I'm pretty fucking sick of this new age of zombie films myself. The Zombie elements in Undead are just so derivative and "oooh I'm clever because I'm doing it like they did in the 80's" that it just kind of came off as lame to me. I'm all for a little homage now and then, but I'm REALLY ready to see something different.

What I find crazy is that if the amount of CGI used here had been in a film that had anything to do with a studio, regardless of it's quality, everyone would be going "oh there's CGI! Bastards!"... I could see the need for it with the alien stuff, but there wasn't a need for it with most of the blood FX.

Plus, that frigging spiked wall was the most god awful looking thing I've ever seen.

Haha... after seeing THIRST I'm inclined to agree with you Mr. Stiffie

How can anyone be burnt out on zombie movies?

That's like saying that you're tired of breathing!

If anything, we need more quality zombie movies.

Ambition exceeded grasp, but I can't say I wasn't entertained. Sure I'll take Braindead over it any day of the week, but tell me a picture you wouldn't you take Jackson's opus over ?

I was browsing through ebay and thought about bidding but decided against it. Isn't it getting a theatrical or video release in the US this summer. This seems to be the first really negative buzz i've heard about it. I'm sure it'll at least be worth the 90 mins. (or however long it is) of my time.

I'm not sick of Zombie movies in general, give me Day of the Dead any day, but this shit is just getting tired.

To me, at least for now, the Zombie (in it's newest incarnations) is just ceasing to be original. Undead tried to be original by adding the Alien elements, but they didn't add anything new to the Zombie or the action involving the zombie.

And for the record, It's not the first negative buzz I've heard. Besides a few reviews I recall, the Corner's INSPECTOR weighed in on the boards a few months ago saying that he liked it just about as much as I did.
