Fear of blood.....

Just kinda interested to see if I'm the only one like this. Just like everyone esle on these boards, I have had a lifelong love of everything horror, sneaking around on the tv tring to catch a horror movie when I was a kid many years ago. I can watch any kind of movie, and no matter how much gore is contained, it never really bothers me. On the complete other hand, I have a horrible phobia of blood in real life. There have been times when I have cut myself and literaly passed out. If I see someone near me who is injured, I can at least keep myself together until I know they are okay, or until help arrives....then shortly after I'm fighting with the feeling of being lightheaded...

One of the funniest (and most embarrasing) times was about 13 years ago back in highschool we were watching a video on how to stop excessive bleeding. About midway through I started feeling woosey, got up to get a drink in the hallway, got completely disoriented, walked into a wall and knocked myself out. (I know I'll probably hear the laughs for that one, but it just goes with my point.)

In a movie, it's different for me because I know it's fake, and dosen't phase me. I'm sure I may be the only one out there like this, but at the same time I'm curious to see if I'm not alone....

My own blood doesn't bother me at all but I get pretty uncomfortable when someone else is bleeding in my vicinity because HIV scares the shit out of me and if I ever catch it I'd rather it be via awesome sex than through someone else's sloppy nosebleeding ...

I think that's not what you're talking about, though.

It's just kinda strange because I can never give an answer of why blood in real life bothers me. I honestly don't know, it just does. (if that makes any kind of sense)...

Blood doesn't bother me at all. I don't like other peoples blood because of the aforementioned diseases but if I had to help someone out I wouldn't hesitate.

One example of my fascination with blood and insides....

I was in the sheetmetal workers union working for a shop that did only commercial heating and air. We had a delivery of several 5,000 lb AC unitys come on flatbed trucks so we had to help unload em. I was loosening the tensioner on one of the trucks, not using the pole like you're supposed to, and it was giving me a hard time. The trucker had put it on way too tight, which should have sent off alarm signals in my head. I gave it more force and it flew open smashing my fingers against the side of the unit.

At first I didn't realize anything had happened but soon the blood started to gush out of my broken, split in half, finger. My body had gone into shock immediately so I didn't feel a thing. I played with my wound while being rushed to the hospital. My finger was split open like a hot dog that'd been left on the stove too long. Bone exposed and everything. It was pretty cool to see the inside which didn't really look like much but a meaty pulp.

Maybe next time I'll get disemboweled. That'd be really cool.

That's a great story, Trip!

I forgot to mention my finger nail had been ripped completely off as well and the tip was hangin by a thread of skin. After the doctor stiched me back together he told me he wasn't sure he'd ever get it back together again. It's still missing a little chunk but I have regained full mobility thanks to the awesome physical therapy nurses who were not only hot but very nice too. Nothing gentle about them though as they made me whine like a little girl in the early stages.

I love my own blood, I occasionally cut myself just to look at it. As far as other peoples blood goes, I'm indifferent.

I used to do that too but I did it more because I liked the feeling. Or rather it was the only way I could feel anything at all at that time. It's called "Borderline Syndrome" ...

I'm a little bizarre with blood. I think it almost goes without saying that because of various diseases, I'm bothered by other peoples blood, but that's the only reason. I have a problem with my own blood [in large quantities,] and the blood of people that I care about.

For example, a while back, my mother was in the hospital. She had to have 'arterial punctures' [where they draw blood from an artery rather than a vein] quite frequently. I'd hold her hand whenever they did it, but I had to stare at the ceiling or risk passing out. However, on the opposite end of the spectrum, I saw a terrible car accident one time, two cars had collided head on and a woman had been between them crossing the road when it happened! I was upset, and quite concerned, but the sight of the blood didn't bother me in the least.

I'd just like to bath with a virgin maiden.

This may go slightly off topic, delving into our body as a whole and

I'm going to go with Bram Stoker on this: blood is life. When you see your life blood draining from you, or leaving you at all could be (and this is stretching it, and just a potential thought) that it is you. It's a part of you, and it's been severed.

I'm not gonna try and be a hard ass. Blood doesn't bother me, but I don't want to cut myself to see it. It's part of me, and it's life. I find it fascinating, and it leads me to question about humans; do we have souls, or are we just bilogical machines, and the blood our engine fuel? If we are bilogical machines, who made us?

I know it sounds confusing and stuff, but I am not thrilled when I am cut, but sometimes I just think of the human body, and other annimals. Like the dinosaurs. Some of them had biology so perfect (if our assumptions are accurate) SOMETHING must have had a say in their being. There is a design to all annimals, and I think SOMETHING must have made the blue prints for all of us.....so what is it? That's why it's hard for me to disregard god and whatnot. All life has a design to it, and even if we are bilogical machines, something must have dictated our evoloution.

I don't know, I'm rambling now. My point is you may be afraid of blood because it represents your lifeforce leaving your body. It might sound dumb but it's just a theory.

Evolution baby! Noone made us or the animals and there is nothing after this life is over. There is no great being with the ultimate power deciding our fate. We decide our fate in this life then we simply cease to exist when it's over. I don't know why that is so hard for people to grasp. Blood is our lifesource but it's manufactured aplenty and can be reinjected into the body so it's no big deal to lose a little.

We are a step down from the highest evolved species in the universe but a step up from animal life.

Well Big Rich, we would've agreed had this been 5 years ago. I hate to drag this off topic but I didn't start it.

I was born and raised Southern Baptist. I've been saved, born again and baptised several times each. I studied the bible and believed for most of my life. Eventually though I started to ask alot of questions that baffled even the most experienced of pastors and ministers. Beyond that I started to get interested in quantum physics which further led me to believe in other truths.

One more thing: I have an uncle who gets queasy at the sight of blood. I stand somewhere in between where Wetbones and Werewolf Girl do at this point. [/B]
Ooooo, I'm at one end of the spectrum.

But is that a good end to be on?

I'd say it's the most interesting one. Apparently I might have some form of 'syndrome.'

Heh, nah you're just creepy.

It bothers me you present your opinion as fact. I certainly can't prove God exists, but I know for sure you can prove that he does not.

Evoloution, to me, is still a design, and a design needs to be imagined, created. It can't just come out of nowhere, at least IMO.

For example, people designed planes, they weren't just sitting there from the moment we came into existance. They were designed and built by us.

Anyway, like I say, this is all my opinion. I respect you dont believe, but I would appriciate if you didn't present your opinion as fact.

I mean, even if god and stuff is all BS, my belief gives me comfort.
What's wrong with that? I would rather believe in something and feel good inside and believe in nothing and be hollow inside (Im not saying thats how you are, but I know it's how I would be if I didn't believe). My beliefs hurt no one, and neither do yours.

I'm right beside you on this one. Something started it all.

I don't know why, but the sight of blood makes me dizzy and queasy.

Yes, blood in the movies can creep me out if it's realistic enough. Movies like GoodFellas and Casino do a good job at that.

One summer I worked as a lifeguard at the local lake. A boy dove into the water, hit the bottom, and cut his forehead on a rock. The head wound was continually
pumping out blood. He'd wipe his face off and 2 seconds later he'd be wearing a crimson mask again.

The funny thing is, he only needed 2 stitches. It was a tiny cut, yet it bled so much! I almost passed out, but fortunately my supervisor was there to handle it.

check this

I use to work in a psych ward and one night an old man with dementia is heard to be awake in his room (I worked the graveyard shift). Anyh00, I found him in the bathroom.....

....blood ALL over the walls....I mean ALLL over the walls...

some of it was in fleshy clumps....the blood somewhat coagulated(SP)....gettting hard

mixed in with his blood was shit

it seems the man was impacted and bleeding internally....and then it all just went *POP* all over the place

he was fine...just a bit confused

I was the only one that would clean the mess up and the old man

I miss that job

Didn't really meant it to sound like that Firefly.

Whatever makes a person happy and feel fulfilled is great.

For me though I will stand my ground in the non-believing camp until someone can show me proof that anything in the Bible is an account of actual events other than "take it on faith".

I don't feel empty at all.

I totally understand why you would feel that way. I used to think like that too. I'm not asking you to defend your position at all, whatever you believe is your buisness and it's not mine to judge you for it.

And like I say, I didn't mean to imply you are empty. But thats how I would be, because if I believed that, then life would be truly pointless to me and there would be no point in any of it. I mean if we die and zip happens, it was all one huge waste of time.

Hey Bunnymud, now that's a cute story...

Blood. In real life I can not look at a blood. I can not kill a spider without freaking out. Blood creeps the hell out of me so I will leave it were it is best to be seen. Behind the screen

I used to handle catastrophic and fatal accidents for an insurance company. Seldomly did I see the accident 'raw' but I would have to see photos the Highway Patrol investigators took and would see the accident victims. I also had to meet a lot of people face to face at their homes and hospitals and they frequently were missing parts. The blood and guts of the deals never really bothered me (although it was sometimes hard to take emotionally). There was a clinical coldness to it. Movie gore, if done right, gets under my skin more.
