Tales from the Crypt/30 Days of Night

Last night I caught the episode of Tales from the Crypt with vampires in Alaska that rome around when the sun goes down for monthes (although they don't explore this in detail). I remember seeing the episode a few years back, but forgot the title of it.

It's called Comes the Dawn (click here ). I thought I should post it because ever since I found out about 30 Days of Night I've been irked that it's been regarded as such an original idea.

In the '80s the new Twilight Zone TV series did a similar story with their vampires in Siberia. There was a comedy vampire novel also from the '80s that had a vampire coming to Alaska for the months of darkness during the gold rush. And there was a short story in the vampire anthology Under the Fang that also had this concept. It's not at all original.

Yeah, Steve Niles is the Quentin Tarantino of horror comics: a great remixer of already existing concepts and ideas. This Cal McDonald stuff is basically Barker's Harry D'Amour with a drug habit (maybe taken from Sherlock Holmse's heroin addiction?). WAKE THE DEAD is a Frankenstein remix, THE NAIL also seems to borrow from a few older horror flicks about Satanists ...

I still love the guy and his work but it really is not ground-breakingly original.
