who's into the Maniac Cop stuff then?

I just watched them again... such a great series, way better than any of the Jason flicks IMO. you got your Bruce Campbell, you got your Robert Davi, you got your Leo Rossi, you got your Z'DAR doing that nightstick thing and throwing people 40 ft across the room in a perfect horizontal line. lots of love went into these movies, and Lustig gets his cool little references in there whenever he can (everything from Terminator to Hard Boiled).

it's my third favorite slasher series, after the Chucky stuff and Halloween. Halloween being first, obviously.

I think Maniac Cop 1 and 2 are pretty fun mindless entertainment. The ending to Maniac Cop 2 is some serious fun. Prisoners on fire, explosions, serial killers....gotta love Lustig and Cohen collaborations (Uncle Sam being the exception of course). Hate the third one though.

part 3 wasn't quite as good as the first two, but it had its moments I think... I especially enjoyed the human tin-can target practice.

and Davi channels Chow Yun Fat better than any big budget action star. He has that innate coolness, and superfast repeat trigger action.

part 1 is (or at least WAS) out on Region 1 DVD, with deleted scenes and commentary. part 3 is also out on barebones Region 1.

part 2 is available in Europe.

Maniac Cop 2 and Relentless are two of the most underated pictures in Leo Rossi's (and Lustig's) magnificently grindhouse cannon.

I love the way that back in 1990, he was doing Woo-homages equal to Tony Scott before it was in any way trendy to do so.

God, how I love MANIAC COP 2. A very underrated cheesy B movie that deserves a lot more love than it gets. If nothing else you have to love the Maniac Cop rap song during the closing credits. How come that's never been released on CD, huh?

That song and the Waxworks 2 rap song must be held up due to rights negotiations...
