I just read Ryan's editorial and it dovetailed into a thought I had earlier today (while at work...cause god knows I don't want to think about work while I'm at work.) And while I know that the editorial was more a reaffirmation of indeed "why they do it" and in no way fishing for a pat on the back, I'm going to give one anyway.

Cause I, and all the rest of us, know you guys at the Corner are doing this voluntarily and for your love of horror, and it dismays me if you even feel a bit of frustration. Cause I feel invested in this site, it's important to me. I come here every day, more than once and it's the only site period I check for horror news....and yes, it's reliable horror news. And as the years have gone by, you guys have branched out into all fields of horror coverage. Whether it be asian and foreign films, video games, books, comics, toys, etc etc you guys are there. And I just want to say, I really appreciate it.

I know this wasn't asked for at all, and I'd hate for it to sound a little kiss-assy (if indeed that is a word) but it's true. Cause today I was thinking. How cool is it, that months ago I could hear about this cool horror movie making the rounds at festivals (a movie I probably wouldn't have heard of for a long while otherwise--and I mean Dead End)---I'd hear lots of good buzz---I'd then hear that it's out on DVD in Singapore---I'd find a link from a fellow Corner reader to buy it from a guy in Singapore---I'd be able to buy it for my region free dvd player which I never even would of thought of getting for myself in the first place unless I'd heard about things like Ghostwatch and scary as hell asian horror titles, etc---and then after I got the dvd, post my thoughts on it and actually then have a mini-discussion about it (albiet on a message board) with the films director? I mean, how fucking cool is that?! And all from the 'ol Corner.

Okay, I should go lock myself back in the shed now, shouldn't I?

Ryan and Johnny -
The two incidents that Ryan cited in his editorial are good examples of why the Corner is great. You guys care enough to be upset when you post something that is inaccurate (although you didn't run the story as anything more then an Internet rumor sent from "trusted" reader) and good enough to take the time and effort to check your stories so that it doesn't happen often. Because of this, you are considered a reliable Internet site for genre news and info.

On top of the that, the writing, attitude and connections you both bring to the site make it a great read (not just a reliable one). Thanks for the great site and keep it up the good work.

I think the whole thing has been taken a bit too far. I mean, come on guys, you made a mistake. No one is going to hold it against you. There is so much news around, that it's bound to happen. Happens to every site. What about AICN? Bloody Disgusting? Just don't take it to heart. We will still love the site.

Hell, this is the only horror site I religiously go to, and the ONLY message boards I belong to, because all the rest suck ass

I'm still in utter awe of the Ryan Phillipe debacle.

I think the point is that NO ONE wants to be viewed the way AICN is. That site is utter shit when it comes to reporting actuality. With as much as these guys put into the site I can't imagine them not taking these situations to heart.

This is also the only horror site and message board that I attend on a regular basis so I take it to heart as well.

Slasherfan deserves all the "ratfucks" we can throw at him. Ryan and Johnny and the others bust their asses every day to make their site aspire to be better than the countless other horror sites out there, which they do by mixing intelligent editorials in with legitimate horror news. They give us free reign to pretty much do and say whatever we want in this forum, and they give away a ton of cool stuff to readers. By purposely submitting fake scoops just to humiliate them and make the site look bad, slasherfan is pissing all over their site and these boards.

I have a pretty good good bullshit radar when it comes to stories like this, so I don't expect sites to check each and every story thoroughly (especially not Leprechaun part 27)

Ryan's still a badass though.

I agree that Slasherfan was an idiot for doing that, but we haven't heard his side of the story yet. Maybe it was a dumb prank , for which case he would deserve shit, or maybe he legitimately had reason to believe was a scoop. Right now it looks like it was an idiotic prank, but still....at least hear him out.


I love this site, but it's not the only one I go to. It's excellent and my favourite, sure, but why does it have to be an 'us' against 'them' mentality? Why the competition? Shit, we are all horror fans, we should be making a stand together and have sites sharing info and stuff. There doesn't have to be some kind of fictional rivalry. This is my favourite horror site but that doesn't mean others are without merits.

I have no doubts the crew here work their asses off, and for that I thank them. But I think competition between horror fans (and thats what we all are when it comes down to it) is pointless.

We have enough people who look down on our beloved genre without political wars between horror sites to worry about.

He has been on the boards since the incident. He hasn't responded to any of the criticism in the other thread regarding this topic.

Enough with the smear campaign against, Slasher. I've spoken with him, he has apologized, and with one strike against him I seriously don't think it's solid ground to attack him. He knows what he did was stupid. Plus, my editorial was in no way a platform to single him out.

Firefly - I think you're missing the point here and for some reason you see my editorial as an attack against rival horror sites. An "us" vs. "them" mentality, you say. No, that's not the point of the piece.

Well, dude, my advice is not to stress about it. We all love the site, appriciate the hard work you all put in and we all can damn sure forget the odd mistake. It certainly doesn't happen often.

You can be proud of the corner. It's infomative and full of a community of horror fans that love the place.

It sounded like a slant on the other horror sites and it wasn't your article but that comment sounded like it was a war or something, like it was an active competition.

My comment wasn't meant as a call to arms, obviously. This isn't an "US vs. THEM" situation where we should storm the Bloody Disgusting offices and burn them to the ground.

All I'm saying is that I've visited a *lot* of horror sites in the last few years, and at least 95% of them are marred with constant typos, bullshit rumors, blatant horror biases, moronic editorials, and just generally sloppy writing, reporting and reviewing. The Corner isn't like that. It's solid in every single department, and for me, at least, it's the only horror site on the internet worth reading on a daily basis.

That's it. That's all I'm saying. Settle down.

In that case I apologise. My bad there, sorry. I honestly only visit three horror sites regularly, this, b-d.com and celluloid shockers so honestly I don't have that much experience of different sites.

It's only an "us against them" scenario if other sites make it that way by refusing to ignore the very basic ethics that come with running a site. It's not hard to link to other sites that provide you news, or to take some extra time to follow up on scoops before you report them. I love doing this, and I can't lie, there are some sites out there that I'm glad exist solely because they make us look better...

BUT, those that do make us look better are doing so by giving this whole "internet news" thing a bad name in the process, so it's a love/hate thing, I guess.

I've been doing this a long time and I know where we stand in terms of who reads the site and who doesn't, and I would never, ever want it any other way than it is right now, as long as we contnue to grow in quality and respect. Ryan's had more to do with any of this than I usually give him credit for, and if it weren't for him I really don't know where we'd be right now.

But I have nothing against other horror sites that do a kick ass job, and will work with them on pretty much anything that comes down the line. The problem is there just aren't that many of them nowadays...
