Night of the Creeps

I just finished watching this movie on HBO. The last time I saw it was back in 1987. It's not a bad film -- not a memorable one either. I wouldn't own it on DVD or anything but I enjoyed it.

Anyway, I just noticed for the first time that some of the characters were named after famous horror directors. There was a "Cronenberg", "Landis" and "Carpenter". I think there was a character named "Raimi" in it as well. Oh, and a "Cameron" too. I'm not sure if that was just a normal name or if the filmmakers were acknowledging James Cameron. Were there any other famous names that I missed?

I havn't seen the film in a long time, but I don't think you missed any. I have to say, it's a movie I have been waiting for on DVD. I loved that movie. It really was more of an homage to a lot of sub genre horror films. Just a lot of fun.

I couldn't believe the first time I saw it that a movie could be so scary and so much fun at the same time

the car....the man with the axe......slow close up

favorite part.......that and the screaming 360 shoot-everything shot

I liked how it had a lot of humor put in there but it wasn't trying to play it like "Scream". It was self-aware without having to go the extra mile in coming across that way.

I actually sat down and popped in my old VHS copy the other day. One thing I noticed is that director Fred Dekker uses the exact same scene in both this and The Monster Squad. Don't know which came first but I'm a fan of both.

I'd really like to see the TV ending because this was the way I originally saw the movie and was dissapointed to discover that the video version had a whole other ending.

I bought a DVD-R bootleg of this at a convention last summer (along with Ed Wood--two of my best buys all year) and it had both versions on it. You're not missing too much, the original's better.

But yeah, I love this movie, has a special place in my heart.

And Stiffie, you may be the only one

The difference is Creeps pays homage to horror films, but Scream makes fun of them.

I would also like to add that my friends and I thought that naming all the characters after directors was just the coolest thing ever. Oh, to be such an innocent horror geek again...

Nothing but love for this. The scene where the kid is talking to Aitkens in his gas filled apartment and Aitkens is confessing to his vigilante justice is classic.

I once tried to convince a professional model maker to create some kits from this movie. He has yet to do so.

No, I think both films are aiming for the same thing. I just think Creeps is more subtle. Where Creeps is the funny kid at the party who will tell the joke, Scream is the obnoxious one trying to explain the joke and why it is funny.
